Book Description:

Larry the lovable monster from Don’t Push the Button! is back with another hilarious, interactive adventure!

I know what you’re thinking: this is a pretty cool-looking book. But…

DON’T TOUCH THIS BOOK! (Don’t even try it, bub.)

Okay, okay. You can touch, but you can only use ONE finger.

Whoa. How’d you do that?

Larry is a loveable monster, but he has trouble sharing. It’s up to you to show him how it’s done!

My Review:

Well I for one am so glad to see our favorite little purple monster Larry back even with all his rules, because sometimes some rules are meant to be broken and Larry is really good at breaking his own rules and letting you break them too.

Larry as we all know is not a great sharer but maybe it will be okay if you just set your finger right...here and then as is prone to happen with our good friend Larry things start to take a turn into adventure and fun.

I loved how one little touch turns into an interactive, fun, and laughter filled adventure for the reader. One minute your laying your finger gently on Larry's book because he says thats okay but nothing else and the next you are roaring like a dinosaur and then taking to the skies.

This is such a fun book for your young readers/listeners and would make a perfect addition to any
Pre-K/Kindergarten teachers library.  What a fun break for circle time, giving your class a chance to giggle and play and learn the joy of sharing, especially the sharing of books.  Don't Touch This Book is also a wonderful addition to any home library.  It will keep your youngest children entertained, it's simple words will allow your early readers the ability to read it on their own, (and they will want to because it's so fun) it will even catch the interest of your older readers and have them sitting down with their siblings to participate...better yet read the book to them!

This book for various reasons, it's a picture book, it's a touch book, it's an active book, is best read in it's hardback format.  If you are a fan of Adam Leahaupt's Warning: Do Not Open This Book, or B.J. Novak's The Book With No Pictures you will throughly enjoy this one.  I can not recommend this one enough to any elementary teacher, you and your class will not be disappointed!

~ HAPPY READING ~

If you loved Larry as much as we do don't miss his first book, Don't Push the Button!

Book Description:

Larry is a lovable monster (if a bit too curious) and the star of this hilarious, interactive picture book debut

There’s only one rule in Larry’s book: don’t push the button.

(Seriously, don’t even think about it!)

Even if it does look kind of nice, you must never push the button. Who knows what would happen?

Okay, quick. No one is looking... push the button.

Uh, oh.

Book Description:

Zhubaal, fallen angel assistant to the Grim Reaper, has spent decades searching for the angel he loved and lost nearly a century ago. Not even her death can keep him from trying to find her, not when he knows she’s been given a second chance at life in a new body. But as time passes, he’s losing hope, and he wonders how much longer he can hold to the oath he swore to her so long ago…

As an emim, the wingless offspring of two fallen angels, Vex has always felt like a second-class citizen. But if she manages to secure a deal with the Grim Reaper — by any means necessary — she will have earned her place in the world. The only obstacle in the way of her plan is a sexy hardass called Z, who seems determined to thwart her at every turn. Soon it becomes clear that they have a powerful connection rooted in the past…but can any vow stand the test of time?

EXCERPT:

Inside Sheoul, the demon realm sometimes called Hell, evil was everywhere.

It dripped off the sides of the sheer rock walls in streaks of black acid that ate into the stone with a hiss. It wafted through the humid air on tendrils of mist that reeked of sulfur and decaying flesh. And, as Vex watched, it oozed like toothpaste from out of a fissure in midair that only people like her could see.

Her purple-tipped black hair, already short and spiky, stood even more on end as the thing squeezing out of the fissure, a dead demon’s soul, popped free of whatever realm and mystical enclosure it had been inside. The toothpastey glob took a transparent, vaguely humanoid shape, but its glowing crimson eyes were sharp and clear. A malevolent wave of rage and hate rolled off the soul, and Vex backed away, even though escape was impossible for her.

She was what her parents had called a daemani, a demon soul magnet, a person to whom souls stuck like glue. According to them, most daemanis couldn’t prevent it from happening, and that was a serious pain in the ass. If a demon died near Vex, not even the Grim Reaper’s personal daemanis, creatures called griminions, had a chance to collect the soul before it got sucked into her and stored as a glyph on her skin.

The demon shrieked, a sound only she or another soul-sensitive person could hear, as it struggled to keep from being sucked into the prison of her body. In a futile attempt to avoid the inevitable, she fled, her booted feet nimbly negotiating the rock shard-strewn ground that was all too common in this part of Sheoul.

But no matter how fast she ran, every time she looked over her shoulder, the distance between her and the soul had decreased. Closer. Closer.

Book Description:

Nate: It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn: The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.   He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

Tessa Bailey - headshotAbout Tessa Bailey: Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

  the argument teaser 3

Book Description:

From the New York Times Bestseller Pepper Winters comes a snarky standalone full of romance.

They say the key to a good relationship is one with no drama.

They say you’re not trying hard enough or married the wrong person if you fight.

Sorry, but I call bulls***.

I’ve had plenty of relationships: some sweet, some happy, most an utter failure.

Until I met Harriet.

Our first conversation was an argument.

Our second conversation was an argument.

Our entire connection was based on…yep, an argument.

We tore up the rules of chance encounters and polite first meeting etiquette. And after the week I’d had, I was ready for a punch-up.

Hell, I craved one.

And Harriet was there to antagonise me.

The first time we met, we spent every hour from dusk to dawn, arguing.

And when the sun rose, neither of us wanted to stop.

Because there was something so refreshing about being honest. Saying exactly what you thought. Picking faults just because you itched to fight.

It was only supposed to be one night. A night where the town was our battlefield, the clubs a microphone to our bickering, and the stars a listener to our squabbles.

Only…I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

You see, arguing turned out to be the best damn thing I’d ever experienced.

So, instead of agreeing to the terms we’d set, I revoked them. I went home with her. I refused to leave. And our argument turned into something so much more than a random quarrel.

It turned into war and our love wasn’t sweet…it was hostile.

Wonder Woman at Super Hero High by Lisa Yee - Review

Author: Lisa Yee
Publication Date:  1 March 2016
Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers
Series: DC Super Hero Girls, book 1
Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy, Super Hero
Age Recommendation: 9 and up
Rating: 4 Stars
~ I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~

Book Description:

This groundbreaking new middle grade series follows DC Comics' most iconic female Super Heroes and Super-Villains . . . as high schoolers. At Super Hero High, the galaxy's most powerful teens nurture their powers and master the fundamentals of what it means to be a hero.

My Review:

I can't begin to tell you how excited I was when this book made it's way into my inbox, so excited that I found myself replying in silly puns about how Super excited I was that this book was in the world (I know you can't stop hearing Elton John sing 'Your Song' can you? Sorry not sorry) and that I was getting the opportunity to dive into this new world.  I am happy to announce that my excitement still holds, this book did not disappoint.

As the title would suggest this particular story revolves around Wonder Woman and her introduction to Super Hero High.  Having been essentially isolated while growing up on the idyllic Paradise Island, Wonder Woman longs to see more, learn more, help more, and do more.  On her own she applies to the prestigious Super Hero High and is accepted.  All the training she has be given during her years on Paradise Island is no match for the world she encounters.  A world full of differing opinions, choices, thoughts, abilities, and to top it all of, it's high school!

I loved the naiveness that Wonder Woman brings.  She's so strong and powerful in all things but her introduction to a world she has never experienced brings a light heartedness to the story.  She's so amazed and exuberant about everything around her she just exudes joy and it makes your heart smile.  While there are a lot of light moments there is also a lot of suspense and action, as one would expect when it comes to super heroes.  There is a mystery to be solved as well as classes to take (such as making super hero costumes, learning flying tricks, solving riddles, and many more) and friends to be made.  This is in the end a book about Wonder Woman discovering her true self and learning about friendship.

On of my favorite things about this book is that it opens up the typically male dominated dark world of the DCU to a new generation and more importantly in my opinion to girls!  I loved getting to meet all the characters in a way we have never really seen them before, (not including Superman) they all have that youthful spirit you expect, the joy children and teens should have.  The darkness that we have come to know, and in many cases for DC fans love, isn't in these characters.  This series isn't about the super heroes fighting their own demons and the demons of others, it is a series about growing up, making friends, finding your path, and becoming who you are meant to be.  This isn't the end all be all for Wonder Woman.  When you get to the end of this book it is clear that her journey has not ended, it's only just beginning, but the growth she has through this book is wonderful to see.

This is a great read for ANY fan of the DCU.  It is not a comic book, this is a middle grade novel so if you aren't typically a comic fan do not let the knowledge that it comes from the DC world to scare you away.  I'm overly excited about this book I will admit because I think we need more options like this for young girls.  My oldest daughter is extremely interested in Anime, Manga, Comics, Gaming, etc but this is a world that is traditionally 'ruled' over by boys and men so to have a book that she can go to where she can see strong young female super heroes and shows her that she is just as worthy as the male population makes me want to shout about this series to the world.  All school libraries should have this on their shelves, it is a book that can be read from anywhere around 9 and up in my opinion, even young high schoolers will find this book enjoyable and worthy.  If you have a super hero fan in your house make sure to add this to your home library too and don't be scared that your boys won't like it because it revolves around Wonder Woman, I promise you they will!

~ HAPPY READING ~

Lisa Yee was born and raised near Los Angeles. As a kid, she loved reading, opening brand new boxes of cereal (to get the prize), and riding the teacups at Disneyland.

Lisa attended Brightwood Elementary School in Monterey Park, California where she once won an award for best decorated cake. However, Lisa cut the ribbon in half because her friend Linda had also worked on the cake, and they had agreed to split any prize they might win.

While at Alhambra High School, Lisa was on the debate team and president of the honor society. On occasion, she would ditch class and sneak off to the library. (Okay, so she never quite figured out the juvenile delinquent thing.) At the University of Southern California, she majored in English and Humanities, and she also took a bowling class.

Lisa has been an inventor, a hand model, and the associate director of a creative think tank. At Walt Disney World Lisa was a writer/producer and one time, when she was the only short person around, she got to be Mickey Mouse.

As co-owner and creative director of Magic Pencil Studios, a strategic creative company, she's written and directed creative projects for Fortune 500 clients, led creativity seminars for dairy farmers (moo), and been featured in the Wall Street Journal for her obsessive workaholic behavior. (She is now practically, totally cured of this.)

Lisa's been part of the Official Olympic Committee Torch Run Caravan (until the police requested that she leave), and she's been paid to eat chocolate. But what she likes doing most is writing. Her writing assignments have included labels for cans of refried beans and a speech for the President of the United States (The President's speechwriters rewrote the speech but they did include Lisa's immortal words, "Hello, Joan and Ben.")

Lisa has also penned her own newspaper column, written TV and radio commercials, menus that have been read by millions, jingles for waffles, and television specials for Disney.

Livesin South Pasadena, California. In her spare time, Lisa likes to read, make things out of junk, and consider taking a nap. Her HUGE collection of Winnie the-Poohs is on loan to the White River (Ontario) Winnie-the-Pooh Museum.

With the publication of Millicent Min, Girl Genius, Lisa has realized her lifelong dream of becoming an author. The winner of the prestigious Sid Fleischman Humor Award, there are over 500,000 copies of MILLIE in print. Lisa's second novel, Stanford Wong Flunks Big-Time won the Chinese American Librarian Association Best Book of the Year award, and was named an American Library Association Notable Book.

Lisa was also named the 2007 Thurber House Children's Author-in-Residence. Her third novel, So Totally Emily Ebers came out in 2007 and so did Good Luck, Ivy, an American Girl historical novel.

In 2009, Lisa's first YA novel, Absolutely Maybe, debuted, as did Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally), the first of her new chapter book series, which was followed up by Bobby the Brave (Sometimes) in 2010.

2011 marks two more American Girl books, Aloha, Kanani and Good Job, Kanani, plus Warp Speed, a spin-off of the Millicent Min Trilogy.

Buried and Shadowed by Carrie Ann Ryan and Alexandra Ivy - Cover Reveal

I am super excited to share the cover of Buried and Shadowed from Carrie Ann Ryan and Alexandra Ivy with you.

This series has some of my favorite covers and this one is no different!  Buried and Shadowed releases

12 July 2016

BuriedandShadowed

Book Description:

 Buried:
Gibson Barton knows his Pack is on the verge of something they will never be able to prepare for: a chance at freedom. Yet when he’s finally able to open his eyes to what might be his fate, it could be too late. As a submissive wolf of her Pack, Mandy Calhoun has always only watched Gibson from afar. Because of her fears, she hasn’t let her intentions toward him—or the other in her sights—be known. Oliver Dare is the Foreseer of the Ursine Pack, and knows with each vision, his death is that much closer. Yet he cannot see his own future—or that of the two wolves who have been thrust into his path. There is danger lurking in the den, and as the three learn to process their emotions and navigate their temptations, they’ll have to fight for something they never knew they had—or sacrifice it all for a purpose far greater than their own destinies.

Shadowed:
Sinclair, Alpha of the Unseen Pack, is determined to destroy the Shifter Accommodation Unit. He understands that his people will never be free until the truth is revealed and their enemies are brought out of the shadows and exposed to the public. Unfortunately, the human female who has been secretly working with him has disappeared, and his priorities must shift slightly. He’s resolved to track her down, and not just because she has the information he needs. Mira Reese isn’t stupid.  She’s painfully aware that the sexy shifter she’s been working with has been using her fascination for him to gain access to the CDC computer system. But that doesn’t stop her from helping Sinclair.  Not when it allows her to be close to him. But after the CDC kidnaps her, she realizes that this isn’t a game. She’s a potential savior for the future of the shifters—and perhaps especially the loner wolf who stirs her passions.

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born. Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.

I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

GOODREADS

Book Description:

Kings rule men. Queens rule kings.

Wyatt Strand is a hard man. He has hard features, speaks with harsh words, and has a hardened heart. Having served the Forsaken Motorcycle Club as Vice President, Wyatt is used to taking responsibility for his brothers, but when he’s handed the gavel everything changes. His brothers are now his men and the threat from the Italian mafia still looms in the distance. A president needs focus, but that’s nearly impossible when his old lady blows back into town and drops two very large bombshells on him.

Amber Wallace is a tough woman, but an even fiercer mother. She once told a lie to protect her unborn child that tore her away from the man she loves. And now, years later, she’s coming home to make amends. Wyatt’s changed, but the club hasn’t. Women are to be obedient. Unfortunately for Forsaken, Amber’s not about to let a few rules stop her from living the life she always imagined.

The Forsaken Motorcycle Club started a war with the Italian mafia and they’ve paid dearly for that choice. With a new president at the helm, the wheels are finally in motion to take down Mancuso once and for all. Even if it means taking the fight back to where it began.

Love is never more beautiful than when it consumes you.

Excerpt from Haunt:

A loud bang sounds on the other side of the closed door. My heart skips a beat and I jump from my spot at the head of the bed. The darkness makes me jumpy. I don’t know what it is, but the solitude kind of freaks me out.

The hinges on the door creak as it opens. Light filters in, bringing with it a sort of relief. Two shadows appear in the doorway— one large and bulking and one small and slender— casting a shadow over the bed and most of my body and face. Their bodies are pressed together. The larger body sandwiches the smaller one between himself and the door frame. My stomach drops and my mouth goes dry. I have to push back the hurt and remind myself that even though I’m technically his that doesn’t mean he’s even remotely mine.

Because even though it’s been almost three years since I’ve seen him, I’d know him anywhere. Not many people get to be Wyatt’s size and nobody carries themselves the way he does. When he walks, it’s with this humble confidence that just radiates, but he’s totally void of any arrogance. At least, that’s who he is when he’s sober.

The woman he’s with giggles. She fucking giggles as his hands trail up and down the sides of her body. Jesus Christ, the sorry fuck is hooking up with girls now. Grown ass women don’t giggle and we’re too damn old to be fucking around with coeds. The little bitch— not that I’m pissed about having to watch my old man maul a damn teenybopper or anything— flips the light switch, basking the room in a soft yellow light. I cringe, blinking away the spots in my vision. Once I’m able to see clearly again, I steel myself to face the only man I’ve ever loved.

I clear my throat and snicker when the girl turns to face me. She can’t be more than a year or two out of high school, if even. She’s your basic bottle blonde with too much makeup and not enough pretty to back it up.

“Oh, shit,” he whispers.

My eyes travel from the whore to Wyatt. I have to actively work to suck in a breath. His light brown hair hangs down to around his hulking shoulders. He’s still beautiful even if he has totally lost that youthful boyish beauty he used to have. It’s been seventeen years since I met this man, but his eyes are the same. The narrow shape makes him look like he’s always grouchy even when he’s laughing, but the blue-green color is inviting and makes him seem almost gentle— like an enormous teddy bear— even though he’s definitely not. I get lost in his eyes just like I do every night as I tell our son and baby girl that I love them. Piper’s eyes are rounder, but the color is spot-on, and when she gets mad there’s no doubting who her daddy is. Zander is another story. As he’s grown and become more of a man, I see less and less of myself in him and more of his father. Sometimes so much so that it’s painful.

Coming back to my senses, I adjust wiggle my wrists to give the pair a little wave and with the brightest, fakest smile I can muster, I say, “Honey, I’m home.”

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, and kick-ass heroines that live inside her head and pursuing her bachelor's degree in English. JC is a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana home. These days she rocks her flip flops year round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful. JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories-- and everything has at least a splash of romance.
