Book Description:

Charles "Wolf" Blackwood likes the game. He likes chasing a new girl every week, loves seducing them and earning their trust. He doesn’t like to keep them.

But Scarlet is different--she always has been.

The chase has never been quite as intoxicating as it is with her, the feisty sub with an innocent streak a mile wide. He wants to keep her, but Scarlet already has a Dom, and Hunter has no intentions of giving her up.

But Wolf is in for a surprise when he realize Scarlet doesn’t want one of them. She’s playing to keep them both.

My Review:

Well, let me start off by saying that in the two previous books I never caught on to how this one would go.  I grasped it fairly quickly once I got into Wicked Wolf but how I missed the outcome of this in Wicked Charming and Wicked Beast is really surprising to me.  Way to go Nazarea, you totally threw me off and caught me surprised and I liked that about this.

With each story I am more and more enthralled with the men of The Kingdom.  There is so much under neath the surface of each man, I don't know how Nazarea is able to pull off as much depth as she does when each story is novella length.  Wolf's story is not the tear jerker that Beasts was for me but it's also not happy go lucky, it is a sad fairytale rife with heartache and misunderstandings. Each of these men are broken, Wolf, in a way, much more than the other two.  He's carried his secrets for years and felt the pain of those secrets every day. As a reader you want to gather these men into your arms and soothe them, it makes them lovable, even when you feel like you can't like them.

Not only do we get Wolf, Scarlet, and Hunter's story but, as we have in past books, we get a deeper look into the relationship between the four men.  We see how 'Wolf' became the man he is, what his relationship with his blood brother Mal is and his brothers by choice Beast and Charming.  I am certain that I would love a prequel taking us back to the boys time in boarding school.  While this is the 'end' of the original series I am hopeful that we will see these couples again, especially with the possibility of Mal's story.

My only complaint is Scarlet...she just put me off a bit.  I feel like she could have solved so many issues years ago, that she strung these two men along for years and years for no other reason than her own pleasure.  It all works out beautifully in the end but I felt her to be a bit callous and I found that frustrating.

I love how Nazarea has taken these classic fairytales and twisted them.  The fairytale itself is only a small point of light that the author has taken and turned into something both beautiful and wicked.  Don't go into this thinking it is a true retelling, it's more that she took the idea of the characters from the fairytale and turned them into something uniquely her own, something that is going to take your breath away, make your heart hurt as well as soar.  I am really quite sad that this is the 'end'; for now at least.

~ HAPPY READING ~

Liz McKinley is stressed out, exhausted, and not in the mood for a bearded and growly man in her ER. When she patches him up to the best of his ability, she’s prepared to push him firmly from her thoughts. Now their paths seem to cross daily, and she is finding it harder and harder to say no to the injured and angry man next door. But she’s been scarred one too many times in her life, and even though this Gallagher looks good enough to eat, she knows that sometimes, sating that craving is the worst thing she can do.

Read a Sneak Peek of PASSION RESTORED:

“Cream and sugar?” Owen asked as he poured two cups. “Both please,” she said. “I can drink it black and usually do at work, but I have a sweet tooth.” Owen’s eyes flared. “Good to know.” Liz licked her lips, and his eyes dropped down to follow the movement. This was so not a good idea. She shouldn’t be here, and she sure as hell shouldn’t be following up on any attraction they might share. He wasn’t good for her, and she damn well knew she wasn’t good for him. And yet when he set her coffee cup next to her hand on the kitchen island, she didn’t move to reach for it. Instead, she stood still, and he moved closer, so close she could feel his breath on her lips, the warmth of his body achingly close to hers. “Tell me to stop,” Owen whispered. He moved even closer, resting his hand on her hip. Her heart raced, and she tried to say no, tried to remember that she shouldn’t do this. She didn’t tell him to stop. He leaned forward, taking her mouth with his, and she let him. Let him have her, let him kiss her, let him do what she knew she shouldn’t. And she kissed him back. It wasn’t a soft kiss, wasn’t one from fairy tales with fair maidens and handsome princes. Instead, it was a meeting of mouths, heavy breathing, teeth, and tongues fighting for control. He gripped her hip with one hand and dug the fingers of his other hand into her hair, pulling her impossibly closer. She’d imagined his mouth on her lips, on her skin before, and yet those dreams had nothing on the real man. She wrapped her arms around him, needing him on her, in her, with her. When she found herself rocking against the hard length of him, she didn’t stop. Instead, she just kissed him harder.

Book Description:

12 Masters. Infinite fantasies. Welcome to Blasphemy…

He wants to dominate her senses—and her heart…

Quinton Ross has always been a thrill-seeker—so it’s no surprise that he’s drawn to extremes in the bedroom and at his BDSM club, Blasphemy, where he creates sense-depriving scenarios that blow submissives’ minds. Now if he could just find one who needs the rush as much as him…

When an accident leaves Cassia Locke with a paralyzing fear of the dark, she’ll try anything to get help. Ready to fight, she knows just who to ask for help—the hard-bodied, funny-as-hell Dom she’d always crushed on—and once stood up.

Quinton is shocked and a little leery to see Cassia, but he can’t pass up the chance to dominate the alluring little sub this time. Introducing her to sensory deprivation becomes his new favorite obsession, and watching her fight fear is its own thrill. But when doubt threatens to send her running again, Quinton must find a way to master her senses—and her heart.

My Review:

So as you can see from my star rating if you looked, I loved Mastering Her Senses.  I adored Quinton and Cassia together. I have added Quinton to my Book Boyfriend list, which may not be as long as you might think, but he's definitely on there. I truly just fell in love with this two and how their relationship plays out.

Cassia made plans to meet with Master Quinton a night two years ago, a night that both she and Quinton were greatly looking forward to but that night came and went with no sign of Cassia until two years later when Master Quinton is called to help in an emergency situation at Blasphemy, an emergency involving the long lost but never forgotten Cassia.  What happened to her that caused her not to show two years ago, why is she back, why is she in the middle of one of the worst anxiety attacks Quinton has ever seen?  When he discovers her reasons and secrets will Master Quinton help or hurt her and can they both keep each other at arms length?

So first off I am just going to leave this right here:

Now most of you know about my 'Pratt Problem' my not so secret love of Chris Pratt and while the fact that Master Quinton is described as a Chris Pratt -esque type guy don't think that I stopped reading there and said 'Welp, I need nothing else 5 STARS'.  I am going to admit that having him in my mind as Quinton did not hurt in making my heart beat a little faster and perhaps fall a little harder for this book than I have for the other Blasphemy books, but there is so much more to this story then my favorite celebrity crush. *sigh*

I loved the kindness and honest caring that is Master Quinton.  I love that when he discovers Cassia's 'secrets' he doesn't just decide he can 'fix her' and somehow knows exactly how to do it, he believes he can TRY to help her, he talks to several of the other Masters, he researches her issues.  In so many BDSM stories we have characters that are dealing with some sort of difficulty and it feels like the character with the issue just stumbles upon the right Dom/Sub and they know exactly what to do and how to fix them or they fix them with out ever realizing what they are doing, they just do their own thing and boom, fixed.  But with Cassia and Master Quinton there is so much thought and care put into her challenges and the ways he can both get what he needs from their arrangement and give her what she needs to fight her 'demons'.

All of Laura Kaye's characters are written this way, with great thought put into who they are, what they need, and how to go about getting the most out of each other.  Her characters are always so well paired but there was just something about Cassia and Quinton that was perfect, they brought back the feelings I had for Laura's characters, Makenna and Caden from her Hearts of Darkness series.  That quiet beauty I love about those two is also found in Cassia and Quinton.  They aren't over the top outrageous, their love story isn't full of angst and frustration, their relationship isn't built on half truths, lies or omissions.  These two are honest with one another from the start and even for the brief amount of time where they are holding their feelings close 'to the vest' they are never emo about it.  They struggle with their own hearts, but never with one another.  I love that about them.

I loved their calm and the peace that comes from them across the pages, even though they are both such adrenaline junkies.  There is truly a feeling that I can't rightly explain to you and you will simply have to read the book to understand.  It is a rightness, a feeling of everything being perfectly in sync and you don't get that a lot in romances and for some reason in Erotic Romances.  I have found that most erotic romances tend to have this crazy drama going on, but Laura has found the balance and seems to have the knowledge that you don't need the drama, the story of the relationships, the BDSM scenes, the ultimate love the characters have for one another are enough and....well I guess that's the answer They Are Enough and that makes in beautiful.

I also loved that we got a look back at Griffin and Kenna, that we get to see the care he continues to take with her and the thought he puts into her needs (do you see the theme?) and also we got another glimpse into the Raven Riders, woot!  If you haven't read their series yet this is a great look into who they are and what they do, it will totally have you over on your favorite book seller one clicking or striding up to the counter to delve into the the Raven Riders world.

Really I can't go on about this book enough. I loved it, it filled up all the empty spaces I had been feeling with my last several romance reads, it made my heart light and happy and is truly one of my favorite reads so far this year.  I know I will get a lot of flack about it and my saying this doesn't take anything away from the Hard Ink Crew, they were my first foray into Laura Kaye books and I love them all, but Mastering Her Senses may have pushed a few of my favorite Hard Ink guys off my Book Boyfriend list, gasp!  There is simply just something about these two that make me want to read their story over and over again, I honestly never re-read books, other than Pride and Prejudice, but I could re-read Mastering Her Senses and never lose the feeling of joy and completion it left me with in the end.  I can't wait for Eyes On You, the third book in the series, these books just keep getting better and better and I know Master Wolf is going to keep on in the tradition of all the Masters at Blasphemy and make my heart melt.

Mutant Mantis Lunch Ladies by Bruce Hale - A Mom Monday Review

A MOM MONDAY REVIEW

Author: Bruce Hale
Publication Date:  7 March 2017
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Series:  A Monstertown Mystery, book 2
Genre:  Middle Grade Mystery
Age Recommendation: 8 and up
Rating: 4 Stars
~ I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~

Book Description:

How well do you know the lunch servers at your school? Sure, they seem like nice people, but what if secretly they are something much, much weirder?
Best friends Carlos and Benny, who just saved their teacher from becoming a were-hyena, have been called upon to investigate the strange goings-on in the cafeteria. Why are the lunch ladies suddenly so grumpy? Why are the girls' meals different from the boys'? And what was that thing seen scuttling around the kitchen wearing an apron?
It's going to require a lot of courage--and more than an industrial size can of Raid--for the boys to avoid extermination in this buggy adventure.

My Review:

The first thing that I loved about this book is the beginning, I know that sounds silly but you will totally understand when you read it.  I loved that I had no clue what was going on and I thought, OMGosh, what have I missed...is there another book in this series, besides The Curse of the Were-Heyena?  We met Carlos and Benny in that first Monstertown Mystery but there was no talk of Mutant Mantis Lunch Ladies so what's going on....then the author said (haha while pointing at me and laughing) and I had to nod my head and admit, hands held up in surrender, "you got me!" It was my first laugh of the book but definitely not the last.

Benny and Carlos are coming of the 'high' of having saved their teacher from becoming a were-hyena, they have discovered that their average little town of Monterossa isn't so average and they are now of course experts when it comes to all the weirdness that seems to keep popping up at their school.  First Were-Heyena's and now 2nd graders are disappearing, a new lunch system based of of differing nutritional needs of the boys and girls has been implemented, girls are starting to take on middle school boy traits, and there have been unconfirmed spotting of overgrown bugs in the lunch room...like really overgrown, adult people sized over grown.  What's going on in Monterossa and can Carlos and Benny solve the mystery in time?

Muntant Mantis Lunch Ladies is just plain and simple a fun book.  If you have readers that are looking for a light mystery full of action, adventure, witty come backs, some (mom speak here) not so polite behavior, silliness, and most importantly a strong friendship then this is a perfect read to have on hand.  I really get a kick out of these two boys.  They are just a fun couple of kids and while we get caught up in all the madness that surrounds them there are the wonderful underlying stories about sibling relationships, about knowing when you need help and not being afraid to ask for it, about realizing that the majority of adults are supportive and caring, about realizing that there is a fundamental difference in the world in the way boys and girls are treated.  No, this book isn't going to 'preach' at your young readers about gender equality but it could be the little eye opener to a generation that hasn't yet discovered these differences. It is subtle but it is there and maybe that will sit in their minds as they age and help them to look toward the future with an open mind.

Having said what I just said don't get nervous that this book is too deep, it is not.  The things I just talked about are all small underlying bits that weave the story together, they are points that aren't going to jump out on the pages for young readers but they may plant seeds and none of those seeds would be bad to plant in young readers minds.  Caring for your family, having strong friendships, opening your mind to girls and boys being able to do the same things...these are all great concepts for your young readers to have marinating around in their brains even when they don't realize it yet.

In the end this is simply put a fun read.  Your readers will be engaged, laughing, sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to discover what mayhem comes next.  They do not have to have read The Curse of the Were-Hyena to read Mutant Mantis Lunch Ladies, these books are all standalones with in the seres.  This is a fairly easy read so even your younger MG readers will be able to get through the book in just a few days, maybe even less with how engaging the story is.  I have to say these would be so much fun to see in a comic book style too...so maybe in the future and because of that if you have Manga or Anime readers in your classroom that have been reluctant to pic up a 'traditional' book this might be the perfect choice for them.

I have an ARC copy so the cover isn't in the Lenticular style like the finished copies will be but I can't wait to see them.  I think it's going to be such a draw to some reluctant readers and honestly I can't wait for it because I just want to play with it, haha.  If you have readers at home that like any of R.L. Stine's book, or the Terrible Two series by Mac Barnett and Jory John you will have fans of the Mostertown Master Series.  If you have boys in your classroom that feel like they struggle to find books with strong boy hero you will want this on your shelves, if you have girls that are tired of reading about princesses or ponies and want something that takes them out of the magical fairytale like realms you will want this series.

Book Description:

SCORCHED BY DESIRE

Dimitri lives to protect the secret of the Dragon Kings from the human race. Bound by a bond stronger than blood to the Kings, Dimitri uses his strength and prowess to defend a thousand-year-old secret. But when an oh-so-sexy, slightly absent-minded archaeologist wanders into his midst, Dimitri will have to give up his rules, and give in to desire...

When Dr. Faith Reynold stumbles upon an ancient skeleton that appears it comes from a dragon, she’s completely taken aback. A woman of science, there’s no way in her mind that this mythological creature can exist. But when a devilishly handsome man named Dimitri intercepts her path to uncovering the truth, Faith’s curiosity turns into all-consuming passion. She’s never felt this way about any man before. But when Dimitri reveals his biggest secret, can she learn to love the man—as well as the dragon within, in Firestorm, the next Dark Kings novel by New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant.

My Review:

The Dragon King series is one of my favorite long running paranormal romance series and while I can say I have been falling into a bit of a rut with it as is to be expected when you get into a series that goes on so long, Firestorm really opens the world back up to me giving me the little pieces I have been missing the last few books.

Dimitri is not fond of humans, he has spent lifetimes feeling apathetic, burgeoning on hate to the beings that showed up in his world changing it and him forever.  If you have read any of this series before now you know that there is a long and difficult history between the dragons and humans, honor bound to protect them the Dragon Kings end up sacrificing everything to save a weaker race even after the humans betrayed the dragons in the most horrific of ways.

I loved that with Dimitri's story we get more of the back story, which is honestly heartbreaking.  While the past 9 books have reminded why the only dragons left in the 'human' world are the Dragon Kings we've only ever gotten the basic facts, with this one we get at least one Dragon Kings detailed story and feelings and it is an emotional journey.

Another major point to this book is that my turning hatred toward Con (I have really not liked him the last several books) got a bit of a reprieve.  We get a good look into him this book.  We get to see his pain and struggles though I will say he is still as big an enigma as ever, but seeing that he truly hates what is happening and is at as much of a loss on how to stop everything as any one else lightens my heart a little when it comes to him.  I am still irked about his relationship with the Queen, I am still unsure of his motivations and his history, and I am less and less sure that he is Rhi's King but I am not as disgusted with him as I have been.  I think we have a long way to go before we get to his book but perhaps we have turned a corner with Con and we will slowly start to get all his little pieces to fall together in preparation for his book.

I think with Firestorm the book has less to do with the romance, though it is a well done romance, and more to do with all the side stories beginning to have movement.  It's like a chess board and finally the pawns are starting to make way for the knights and rooks to move, soon we'll have the King and the Queen making their plays and that is what I am waiting on.  I don't know how long it is going to take us to get there, there are a LOT of Kings and this story could continue for far too long but I feel like we've gotten to the top of the hill now and from this point on everything that happens is truly bringing us to the end.

You are going to get what you have come to love from Donna Grant in Firestorm, romance, action, bonds of family and friendship, suspense, mystery, and a little bit of angst.  We still have a lot of questions to be answered.  When is Ulrik going to take care of Mikkel? When will Ulrik confront Con? When will Balladyn confront Taraeth?  What is going on with Con, does he have to be such an ass?  What is V up to?  When will Rhi find happiness?  When will Rhi let all her bad ass out and just take over the world (lol)?  Is Rhi going to fall in love with her Reaper?  Is Rhi going to become a Reaper..or Death?  Is Rhi going to fall in love with Balladyn?  Who is Rhi's Dragon King.....so many more things to discover and I am really looking forward to getting all the answers, but guys I think we have a long way to go before we get there so hang in, it feels like with Firestorm we are on the way to discovering the answers!

~ HAPPY READING ~
