Crux Untamed by Tillie Cole - Release Day

Book Description:

ONLY BOUNDLESS LOVE CAN SILENCE THE WHISPERS OF THE PAST . . .

A broken woman.
A damaged man.
A free spirit intent on saving them both.

Elysia ‘Sia’ Willis lives a solitary life. The only person in it is her big brother, Ky, vice-president of the infamous Hades Hangmen. She loves him, but she has absolutely no love for the outlaw MC he belongs to.
Raised in secret by her mother, Sia grew up separated from her brother and distant father. No one knew she even existed.

After the tragic murder of her mother, Sia spiraled into a rebellion against the rules of the Hangmen. A rebellion with dire consequences that now, years later, she still can’t escape.

As she lives once again in secret, happy on her own at her secluded ranch, a devil from her past comes calling. A devil who wants to possess her once again and take her from the simple life she never wants to lose.
And he will stop at nothing to collect what he believes is his: her.

Valan ‘Hush’ Durand and Aubin ‘Cowboy’ Breaux have finally found a home in the mother chapter of the Hangmen. The notoriously private Cajun twosome have, for now, put aside what chased them from their beloved Louisiana. But as threats toward the club build, Hush and Cowboy are given a task—protect Elysia Willis at all costs. Cowboy welcomes the job of watching over the blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty.
Hush fights against it.

Scarred by events from his past and a secret that plagues his everyday life, Hush refuses to let anyone else get close. Only Cowboy knows the real him. Until a certain sister of the club’s VP begins to slowly knock down his defenses, shattering the heavily built walls that guard his damaged soul . . . with his best friend leading the charge.

As lost and open hearts begin to meld, taking each other from indescribable pain to the never-before felt relief of peace, the newly-mended threesome must first endure one more rocky path.
Only then will they finally shake free of the shackles of their pasts.
Only then will they shed the bonds that have for too long held their happiness captive.
And there is only one way to survive that path . . . together.

Dark Contemporary MFM Romance. Contains scenes of violence and explicit sexual situations. Over 18’s only.

  EXCERPT:

The identity of our intruders clicks. Two Troikan Generals: Shamus Campbell and Luciana Rossi. Behind them, four Laborers I’ve never met. A total of six invaders. 6: symbolizes beauty and high ideals. The sixth sense: ESP. The sixth astrological sign in the Zodiac: Virgo. Focus! A soft pitter-patter of footfalls echoes outside the cave. More TLs? Killian isn’t safe. Panic claws its way up the ridges of my spine, and my blood f lash-freezes. I strain with all my might, desperate to move, but my body refuses to cooperate. Every attempt to raise my arms threatens to pop my shoulders out of joint. I don’t care. Nothing will halt my efforts. “Kill, kill.” Between each command—desire?—Killian snarls like a wounded animal. “Kill!” Shamus, a big, barrel-chested redhead with pale skin and countless freckles, slams a fist against his armor-clad chest to gain my attention. His dark eyes are narrowed, a muscle jumping in his jaw. “What did you do, Miss Lockwood? And do no’ tell me nothin’.” His accent is similar to Killian’s. Luciana, a slender brunette with lovely brown skin and startling gray irises, backs away from me, horror contorting her expression. “I’ll tell you what she did. She doomed us all.” Doomed… Is she right? She can’t be. She just can’t. I look down at Killian. My new husband is pulling at hanks of his hair. Hopes, falling from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. “Out,” Shamus snarls at the TLs. “Now.” All four soldiers rush from the cave without protest. I stiffen. The General has evened the odds. Two against two. A foolish move for a war-seasoned veteran. Unless he got rid of any witnesses… Willing to use my body as a shield, I push through the pain—snap. My shoulder does pop out of joint. Or maybe back into joint. Air wheezes from my lungs. Worth it! Finally, I can move. I crawl toward Killian, every inch I gain only adding fuel to an already blazing fire of agony. Can’t stop. No, won’t stop. Determination drives me. I only wish it gave me wings. “Kill. Must kill.” Killian is lost in a world of his own. “You won’t be killing anyone, you son of a Myriad troll.” With a hand curled around the hilt of a sword, Shamus stalks toward him. “Stop! He doesn’t know what he’s saying right now.” My voice is barely audible, my gaze locked on my love. So close, yet so far away. Desperation slams a spike straight through my heart. Any other day, I would have used the comm built into the forearm of spirit and Shell. With the press of a few buttons, it could transport me to Killian’s side and, as long as some part of me is touching some part of him, whisk us both somewhere else. Somewhere safe. Like a fool, I disabled the device to hide from fellow Troikans while meeting with Killian. I should have known they’d find me one way or another. “Stop,” I repeat, even as I gain another inch. “That’s an order.” As a Conduit, I outrank the Generals. As a newbie to the Everlife, however, my exalted rank doesn’t really mean squat. “We can’t hurt him,” Luciana grates. She extends her arm, stopping Shamus in his tracks. “You’ve effectively tied our hands, Miss Lockwood.” Though the shadows are no longer slithering through my mind, I’m not exactly thinking straight. I struggle to make sense of her words, finally throw in the towel. “I don’t understand.” “You bonded to him, did you not?” She spits the words, as if they taste foul in her mouth. “That bond forces us to spare Myriad’s favorite butcher and watch as you, one of only two Conduits, slowly descends into madness.”

My Review:

I hate to say that I struggled with Nobody Does it Better.  I think part of that is beause I had been waiting/anticipating Kayla's story for so long that perhaps I built it up to be something more than what I should have.  Now this is not to say that I didn't enjoy this book, I really did, it just took me a long time to get through it.  It is one of those books that you struggle to fall madly in love with so that you can do nothing but read, it is a book that I read in pieces here and there, a bit of a slow burn in a way.  Maybe it is simply the fact that this is the final book in the Masters and Mercenaries series and I am not ready to let it go. All that said the story itself, the plot, the relationship, everything we have come to expect and want from a Lexi Blake book is all there.

I have had a crush on Kayla for the longest time.  She is such a conundrum for me, a light, a bit of fresh air, but also this hardened warrior, a killer, a complete and total bad-arse.  We see who she might have been if circumstances had not changed her but to know who she is now because of those circumstances is what makes her such an amazing heroine.  Just when you think maybe she isn't all that you thought, that maybe she's been beaten down and used too many times she shows you what a fierce woman she truly is.  Nothing will stop her from protecting the ones she loves and holds dear and when shocking revelations come to light she will be the last woman standing and she will do it on her own terms and in he own way.

Josh, Josh is a had character to love and I am not sure that I will every fully like him.  He is a broken man, he was a broken boy... there is so much story lived in his few short years but he is quick to blame, accuse, react and so back and forth on his feelings he gives readers whip lash.  I know that Kayla  and the CIA/DEA/McKay-Taggart are all partially to blame for this but for someone who craves complete control it was amazing to me how out of control his life seemed.  I think I almost could have seen him more as the s and Kayla as the D in their D/s relationship.  Of course everything works out but the getting there at times was frustrating.  He is one of those characters you occasionally want to slap upside the head with his own book.

There is a lot happening in Nobody Does it Better, so many plot twists, stories to close and ones to set up I think that at times the romance got lost in all of that.  Now what that does is make for an action packed book and for fans of Masters and Mercenaries it will give you everything you have come to crave...though I would have liked to have had more interaction with the Taggert, but when wouldn't I, haha?  I like the set up for the spin-of, The Lost Boys, one I am really excited about and have been hoping for since those characters were introduced.  I am hoping that we will still get a book for Jared because honestly if anyone deserves one it is that guy, he's been teased for a while now.

While this book can I think be read as a standalone, you will have a full grasp of all the ins and outs if you start from the beginning, however being that this is book 15 I can see how it would be daunting to begin at the...beginning.  If you want to jump in here and just get read for the Spin-Off with out having read the 14 that come before I feel confident you won't feel as though you are lost or missing pieces of the story, but I would love to have you go back and start from book one because getting to know the Taggart's has been a true joy and though you might want to slap a few of them (ahem, Ian) upside the head with the book a time our two you will fall in love with them and have meet some amazing characters along the way.  If you are fan of the series, don't miss this one.  It may feel different for you, as it did for me, but it is still a wonderful read from Lexi Blake and a wonderful look to the future of her stories.

~ HAPPY READING ~

Excerpt:

“Kayla?” Her eyes came up, a flash of recognition there. “Yes?” “Are you going to sign the contract or do you have more questions?” She picked up the pen sitting on top of the contracts that would bind the two of them together for the next six months. They would reevaluate the relationship at that point in time, but for the next six months, she was his. His bodyguard. His submissive. Bought and properly paid for. He would take care of her and she would give him what he needed. She signed with a flourish and sat back, a gleam of curiosity in her eyes. He was curious, too, and there was zero reason to not satisfy their curiosity. Hard and soft limits had been gone over. They would find their communication style as they went along. But first she should understand that he was in control. “Come sit on my lap.” She didn’t hesitate. She stood and turned, shifting so she could maneuver her way onto his lap. Her weight came down on him and he wrapped an arm around her waist. Damn but she made him feel big. He’d seen her take out a man twice her size, but sitting here in his lap she felt small and vulnerable, and fuck but that did it for him. He slid a hand along her knee, letting himself indulge in the silky-smooth feel of her skin against his palm. “Did you do as I asked?” He was well aware his voice had gone husky, deeper than normal. “Yes, Joshua.” She squirmed the tiniest bit, as though trying to find a comfortable position. It might be difficult for her because she was sitting right on his cock, and it was harder and thicker than he could ever remember it being. “How can I trust you?” This was all part of the game he loved. Here he could let go and play out the darker of his impulses—to control, to take, to possess. See. Want. Have. “You’ll have to check,” she replied. “Though shouldn’t we go inside?” He reached out and picked up his cell with his free hand, pushing one number and connecting to the security room. He put them on speaker. She needed to understand what she was up against in order for the game to be fair. “Landon?” “This is Burke,” the deep voice replied. “Shane’s on patrol. What can I do for you?” “Burke, I would like to fuck my submissive on the third-floor balcony. Is anyone watching us? Can you see any cameras pointed our way?” A low, masculine chuckle came across the line. “No, Mr. Hunt. And given the angle relative to the beach, you should enjoy your evening without worry. The only peepers I would worry about would be your next-door neighbor, and Jared is out for the night.” “I wouldn’t care if he wasn’t. Keep up the good work.” He hung up and his hand tightened. “I would prefer when we’re playing that you don’t question me like that. I know where I want to fuck you. I know when I want to fuck you, and I’m in charge. If I want you in the middle of a crowded freeway, your only response is a yes or a no. Not to question me.” She seemed to relax back against him, as though she was giving up the struggle and choosing to submit. “Yes, Joshua. Yes, I understand, and yes to the sex. Please.” He liked the breathy please and loved how she squirmed. Still, he wasn’t absolutely sure she’d obeyed him, and he was a man who required proof. He slid his hand up her thigh. “Spread your legs for me.” Her knees fell apart, and he could feel the heat from her core. He slipped a hand up until he made contact with her softest skin. No panties. Nothing but wet heat waiting for him, and it was obvious the play had cranked her up, too. His free hand eased one button on her shirt free, and then another and another until he could move in like a soldier conquering territory. No bra. Her breasts were like the rest of her. Soft and delicate. One nipple rolled against his palm, hardening then and there. “I can see you’ve been an obedient sub,” he said, his mouth against her ear. “You need to stay that way or there will be punishment. I’m not a sadist, Kayla. I truly don’t get off on your pain, but I will give it to you if you need it. I am a disciplinarian. I gain satisfaction from your obedience. In exchange, I’ll show you how good it can be to obey me.”

Book Description:

All is lost.

All. I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore. My thoughts are filled with hatred and dripping with rage. I've lost my soul. She took it to the depths of Hell with her and haunts me with images of what could have been. Sixty lives are mine to take. Sixty lives stand in the way of my vengeance. Sixty lives plus one more. Mine. When the last drop of blood falls — mine will be spilled. Only one person stands in the way. She doesn't realize I'll kill her too. I don't own a heart. And even if I did — I wouldn't fall prey to its lies again. I am Chase Abandonato. Heir to a legacy of betrayal. And I will kill them all. Even if it means pointing the gun at myself. A life for a life. A soul for a soul.

Now I lay me down to sleep… I pray the Lord my soul to keep. Blood in. No out.

My Review:

It's hard for me to put into words my feelings for this book. This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and I was not disappointed.  I have mentioned in previous reviews of this series that I struggled to fall into to love with this series with the first few books, I don't think it was until Tex's book (Elicit, book 4)  that I was completely smitten and every book after has lead me deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole the is Eagle Elite and deeper deeper in love with these characters, Chase now being a particular favorite.

I knew going into Eulogy that this book would be emotionally challenging.  Chase's story took an unexpected turn in Enrage, book 8 and as with several of these books I thought I would never be able to get over what was done to these characters.  Thankfully I have great faith in Rachel Van Dyken and she did not disappoint.  She took our light hearted boy through an emotional roller coaster and turned him into a broken and serious man.  It was difficult to see his progression from the young man we knew into this hard man, it hurt watching how badly he was hurting and how hard he pushed to punish not only those he holds responsible for his pain but also himself.  In the end we have to wonder if he will ever be able to breathe past the pain or if he will destroy everyone around him, even those that love him.

I don't want to offer to much as far as the plot of this story because there is so much that came before the moments of this book.  The book prior to this Enrage is a real shocker and I don't want to talk here about anything that could give that away.  What I can say is that this is a beautifully ugly book.  The pain is so visceral it hurts to read, but the healing that occurs for these characters is deeply moving, and don't fool yourself into think this is just a book about Chase, there is so much more to it, an old rift is also healed, one that perhaps you had forgotten about when the characters never did.

Lucianna, this is a heroine I never saw coming from Rachel Van Dyken, but should have.  She is the perfect foil to Chase's dark madness.  She is light and innocence but what this woman does for love is stronger and harder than perhaps any of the heroines that have come before her.  Until now all of RVD's heroines have had a hard edge, they have known what they were getting into and gone not it with eyes wide open and gun locked and loaded.  To watch not only the transformation of Chase but of Luc was a beautiful thing.  I loved how even though Rachel had to rough up Luc's edges as a character she kept her light and sweetness...something totally opposite form what had come before her.  On that note, I have to say I think that Rachel Van Dyken both shocked me (heck when doesn't she) and soothed me with the understanding of Chase's prior relationship.  I still feel a bit hurt by how everything went down but I am also a bit relieved and more than content with the way things are now.  I have to wonder if this had always been the plan or if one night Chase spoke of his unhappiness to Rachel and she sought a way to soothe his beast, it's sad how he had to get there but his HEA is so worth it in the end.

As always Rachel will have you gripping the pages, crying, cursing, laughing, and swooning.  She will have you gasping out loud with the unexpected and craving more as soon as you close the back cover.  I HIGHLY suggest that you begin this series from the beginning, I think at least in this case you must go back and read Enrage before starting this book if nothing else.  If like me you find yourself struggling with the first few books I beg you not to stop, when the whole series comes together it will become an absolute favorite.  I can not imagine not having these characters at my finger tips now, they are amazing!

Eulogy-AN

Excerpt:

BLOOD. BLOOD. BLOOD. It covered my hands. It surged through my heart. It dripped from my fingertips onto the concrete floor. Trapped. Broken. Finished. Hungry. Insanity scratched its way into my psyche as I eyed the door and waited. One heartbeat, two heartbeats, three… It opened. I fired two rounds, and acrid smoke filled the air. I thought I knew what love was. I was a fucking idiot. Every single bone in my body shuddered with rage, with the need to rip something apart, someone, anyone —all of them. My friends. My brothers. I brought the war to our house, and they would finish me because of it. I’d thought I loved her. Our love had been a lie. Her betrayal my only truth. And now? Now, I finally knew what love was. I’d seen it, smelled it, tasted it. And lost it. I’d fucking lost it. They would pay. They would all pay. For taking her. For turning her against me. For making me believe that blood was everything, only after mine was spilled.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd.  A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter.  My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet.

Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

Book Description:

Lottie Livingstone bears the weight of an island on her shoulders. Under threat of losing their home, she and her clan take to the seas to sell a shipload of illegal whiskey. When an attack leaves them vulnerable, she transforms from a maiden daughter to a clever warrior. For survival, she orchestrates the siege of a rival’s ship and now holds the devilish Scottish captain Aulay Mackenzie under her command.

Tied, captive and forced to watch a stunning siren commandeer the Mackenzie ship, Aulay burns with the desire to seize control—of the ship and Lottie. He has resigned himself to a life of solitude on the open seas, but her beauty tantalizes him like nothing has before. As authorities and enemies close in, he is torn between surrendering her to justice and defending her from assailants. He’ll lose her forever, unless he’s willing to sacrifice the unimaginable…

My Review:

I had so much fun with this book.  I loved the heroine, Lottie.  Her spirit and courage are unstoppable and so refreshing.  She is the epitome of what I expect a Highland Lass to be, or at least the one that I would hope I would have been.  When you are the only hope to save your family, your clans fortunes then wouldn't you go to any lengths?  This is exactly what Lottie does when faced with challenges, quick thinking and a desire only to keep those she loves safe may send Lottie down a path she never expected and into the 'clutches' of a righteous man, but those choices also lead her down a path she could have never expected and her family and clan into a content and happy future.  I loved watching Aulay's little safe bubble of the sea explode around him as he comes to terms with his self imposed solitude and his true desires.

I really enjoyed this couple.  I loved the give and take between the two of them.  I loved Aulay's indignation in the beginning, his disbelief that he let himself be broadsided by Lottie, and finally the knowledge that his righteousness is nothing in the face of his attraction to Lottie.  I loved Lottie's courage, her refusal to back down, and her acceptance of the future she believes is before her.  One of my favorite things and that I found most enjoyable is the 'fighting' between these two.  The storyline itself;f could actually be pretty heavy and tense if it wasn't for these moments of levity brought about by the bickering between these two.

This book is one adventure after another, each one flowing easily into the other. This is one of those books that in my mind I can watch play out as if it was on a movie screen as I read.  Julia does a beautiful job of setting the scene and making the story flow easily from one page to the next.  I even loved that while this is a romance it isn't all about the romance.  This is a story of finding your place in the world and being lucky enough to find it with some one you love.

This is the first book I have read from Ms. London and I throughly enjoyed it.  This is also the 4th book in this series but as you can see it can clearly be read as a standalone within the series.  I will most assuredly be going back and reading the first three and I am quiet eager to get the stories that belong to secondary characters in Devil in Tartan.

~ HAPPY READING ~

EXCERPT:

The wind out of the west was light, but brought with it heavy clouds. Nevertheless, the ReulagBalhaire was sailing along just as she ought to be, the sedative dip and rise of the ship’s bow into the rolling waves a steady reminder that all was right.

Captain Aulay Mackenzie listened to the sound of his crew calling out to each other as they manned the sails. He closed his eyes and felt the mist of the sea on his face, the wind ruffling the queue of his hair. It was days like this—well, he preferred those glorious, sun-filled days—days at sea, when he felt most himself. When he was most at home. He was in command of his ship, of his spirit, of his world. It was, perhaps, the only place in his life that was so.

It had been too long since he’d been at sea—a few months, but to him, a lifetime. Aulay chafed at life at his family’s home of Balhaire. He had lived his entire adult life at sea, and every day away from his ship was a day something was missing. He was useless at Balhaire. His father was chief of the Mackenzie clan. His older brother, Cailen, was his father’s agent, his face to the world. Rabbie, Aulay’s younger brother, managed the day-to-day business of the sprawling estate of Balhaire, along with his youngest sister, Catriona. His mother was engaged in the social aspects, as was his sister Vivienne. And Aulay? He had no useful purpose there. Nothing worthwhile to occupy his days. He was merely an observer on land.
