Book Description:

What matters more to Archer: saving the woman he loves but can never have, protecting humanity, or avoiding a prison sentence that would stretch for eternity?   Archer is a half breed, caught between two opposing heritages - the Jacks, a bloodthirsty race who kills for sport, and the Readers, a docile race trying to save humankind. Two years ago, he betrayed the Readers, though, in a last-minute change of heart, saved them from ultimate destruction. But now he’s all alone, wallowing in unrequited love.   Sadie is an Immortal Seer with a dangerous calling: she must hunt down and destroy the last of the vengeful Jacks. But her quirky humor and gentle spirit make her an unlikely fit for the job.   Archer is drawn to Sadie’s pure, kindhearted nature, rekindling hope he might not have to live a solitary life, but he has no idea the danger he’s in.   When fate forces the mortal enemies to work together, Sadie must determine which side Archer is on, how much of his charm is real, and if she should follow through with her directive: should she kill him or save him?

My Review:

As soon as this book came on my radar I knew that I had to read it.  Having not read the first book, The Reader, I immediately went and one-clicked it, tore through it, and then sat in anxious anticipation for The Jack to release!

I knew this one was going to have me gripping the pages because I fell hard and fast for Archer in the first book and wow the way things went out in The Reader I wasn't quite sure where his story was going to go, although I knew he would be redeemed I was totally unsure of how M.K. Harkins would do it. Archer is really a great character, he's been a bit maligned all his life. Always a little on the outskirts, never sure of his place even though most of the people around him had no idea that he didn't truly fit in until it was 'too late'.  A father who felt ashamed of his son's linage and often times took that shame out on Archer in their interactions.  He's the 'boy' who looses it all, the one who's been living a lie and now has to prove he is more than just what people think he is because of his heritage and past.

Sadie is another great character, the only thing more I could have wanted from her was more back story.  These characters have been around for thousands of years, there is a world of history in each of them and more particularly with Sadie because she has lived in the world wide 'community' and she's done it all on her own.  She hasn't had a group of like-minded people or a place that is protected from the outside like the Readers and even the Jack's have had.  I want to read one of her history books and just really get to know her on a deeper level.  It's hard at times because these characters have been around for so long yet they are still seemingly (at least in looks) kids so when they get in their groups, especially with the Readers, I have difficulties seeing them in positions of power, I can never quite place what their actual role in the community is, but with Sadie she was a free agent so to speak so she comes across as older and more mature even though they are all around the same age.  I loved her giving heart and her desire to see the good in every one, though it does get her in trouble a time or two.  I loved her connection with Archer and that while they fight it a little they always know deep down who they are to one another and when they finally accept it, well that's it.  I am a huge fan of non-angsty romance so this was a great read for me.  Yes there is a bit of a love triangle but you realize early on that it won't play a major role in the overall storyline.

One of the things I really loved about this story was the suspense, the who-dun-it feel.  I had so many theories running wild and every time I was sure it was one person I changed to another.  So that means I wasn't totally surprised by the outcome in the end but boy did I enjoy the trail to getting there. I loved that friendships were rebuilt and that faith wasn't totally lost.

This is really a book about Archer's redemption and finding friendship and love when you are willing to truly open yourself up to it regardless of your fears. I am incredibly anxious to get ahold of the next book, there has to be one right?  Because I want to know what happens with our dear sweet fiery-tempred redheaded Lucy and a new character we meet in The Jacks.  We know it's not over by the way things ended, or at least I hope that it isn't, also I am gonna be needing some little baby Archers, haha.

So great this one up, it can be read as a Standalone but I think you will be in a better position if you know the full back story of Archer and have met a few of the characters before.  This is a great read for the mid ya aged teens, 13 to 14 year olds as the romance isn't the main focus nor does it get too intense.  These are pretty quick reads that will grab your attention and keep it so go on ahead and dive in and enjoy!

Flirting with Forever by Kendall Ryan - Excerpt Reveal

Barnes&Noble ~ Kobo ~ Audible

Book Description:

I've waited years for the perfect girl, yet she was right in front of me all along.

My best friend, Natalie, has been by my side through everything. Leaning on my shoulder, borrowing my sweatshirts…and making my pants too tight when she flashes me that sassy smile that drives me crazy. But she has no idea about that last part. She doesn't have a clue I've felt this way about her for years. Until one night after too many cocktails, we fall into bed together. I'm flirting with my forever…she just doesn't know it yet.

This book is a sexy, slow-burning best-friends-to-lovers romance with a guaranteed HEA and no cheating. Dive in, and get ready to melt for Cam!

Excerpt:

I look up at Cam and meet his eyes, brimming with secrets. I need answers, and I need them now.   No more secrets, Cam.   “What’s going on?”   The man in my arms doesn’t answer with his words. Instead, he takes hold of the edge of my towel and pulls it from my body. I gasp at the sensation of our skin pressing intimately together. I brace myself against his chiseled arms, digging my fingers into his biceps for purchase.   He isn’t done. He lifts his hands, one to my hip, one to my cheek. His thumb draws a small circle on my exposed hip bone. With the side of his knuckle, he traces the outline of my lower lip. I stay very, very still so he won’t notice the slight shudder racing down my spine.   “I can’t tell you,” he says so softly that it breaks my heart.   “Yes, you can.” I barely recognize my own voice. Cam’s eyes, dark and hurting, are locked on my lips. I want to ease that pain.   And I think I know how.   I lean in closer, pulling myself up to his level with my hands on his chest. Our breaths mingle and everything is warm, the air between us aflame.   “You’re killing me.” These are the words that fall from Cam’s lips before they meet mine.   God.   My lips are locked against his in the softest of kisses. I catch his lower lip with my own, pressing every ounce of my feelings into him. Every thank you for being there for me. Every you’re perfect for being exactly what I need.   Can he feel how much I care for him?   He’s still for a whole Mississippi second—a second too long for me to bear.   Oh God. What have I done?   But the moment I pull away, Cam leans in. His hands are on my face, holding my lips against his. He tilts my head, digs his fingers into my hair, and opens his mouth to mine.   “Natalie . . .”   The sound of my name slipping so lustfully from the back of his throat sends a jolt all the way down. All the way down.   I pull myself even higher on my toes, clinging to him with my arms around his neck. He returns the favor, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me tight against him. Our mouths are magnetic, unable to separate, unwilling to stop.   My God. I’m kissing Cam.   I’m kissing my best friend.   I’m kissing him and I can’t stop.   I dart my tongue between his lips, caressing the underside of his upper lip. He growls, maddened by my bold move. His fingers blaze fiery trails down my neck and shoulders. His hands explore me, memorizing the slope of my back and the curve of my hips. Each touch is so soft, yet so electric.   Soon it’s all frantic kisses and eager moans that I’m pretty sure are coming from me. I press into his shoulders, leaving handprints on his chest. My fingers draw lines down his abdomen, then finally trace along the bulge beneath his towel.   Cam jerks back, his eyes full of questions.   But there’s no more time for questions. We’ve wasted far too much of it.

My Review:

I can not begin to tell you how excited I have been for this spin off series to begin.  I have been falling for these 'Lost Boys' for ages it seems and now we finally get their stories, we get to understand completely where they have come from, we get to hopefully learn their pasts, and see their futures laid out before them with women who will love them regardless of who they are or were.

I want to start by saying that Lexi Blake did not disappoint me when it came to this book. There are a few things I miss from the original Masters and Mercenaries but this isn't the original so I need to be like these guys and take a break from 'my past' and just look to the future. So we'll start real quick with what I felt was 'off', just so we can get it out of the way.  The quick witty snarkiness of the original guys isn't in these characters.  Now lucky for us we have Big Tag in this story so it's not completely gone, but I miss that banter. Secondly the sex scenes, while lovely, are not what I have become accustomed to when it comes to Lexi's writing and with this series in particular.  It's a bit vanilla if I am being honest, ha.  I realize again that this isn't the same group of people and these guys don't even really know what their 'tastes' are yet, but there are only nods to the original story arc of these guys being Masters....and Mercenaries.  Finally, I hate to say it...I really do, but River left me struggling a little.  It is hard to go from these stories where the women are as strong as their men, if not more, to basically your every day girl.  Now don't get me wrong, she's pretty awesome what with her backpacking and tracking skills etc, but she's a bit wishy washy and she runs more than a greyhound chasing a rabbit.

So what did I like?  I loved that this took us back to Bliss, though if you haven't read the entire series that revolves around the town of Bliss, CO you may be a little lost when it comes to a few people and, now I haven't read it so I could be completely wrong, but I think there is a nod to a cross-over with Julie Kenner and her Stark series in there.  I just loved getting back to Bliss though, it is such a fun community and while I did get a little spoiled over a book I haven't read yet, I was too happy to see some characters again to care overly much.  I love the 'love' between these 'Lost Boys'.  They have each others backs, even the ones they aren't sure they can wholly put their faith in yet; Dante dude; What's up with you?  I loved seeing Tag, Ezra, (ooooh, now there's an interesting story line!) Henry, Nell, even a little Adam, Faith,Tex and even that jerk Levi (who has to get his on story at some point too right?)...it was so good to see those characters again.  I loved the relationship that Jax builds with River, even if it takes him a whole lot of hard work and letting her run away over and over before all is said and done.  I kinda wish we got a little news in the end about one moment, but I am hopeful it will come back up in later books.  I loved the action moments, all the suspense, and where these guys stories seem to be going.  I feel like we're on a crazy wild goose chase and can't wait for it all to come to a head in the end.  Who's gonna get the golden egg?  My favorite part though, is just the sweetness of these men.  They're almost juvenile in their thoughts and actions, very naive...though don't worry they don't exactly stay that way.  They whole banter between them about consent made my heart happy for so many reasons, it was funny, it was toughing (no pun intended), and it is important!  I love how much they just want to be loved and I want to just hug each and every one of them, with their consent first of course!  ;-)

If you have been a fan of the Masters and Mercenaries series I know you have been waiting for this spin-off as much as I have and I think that you will truly enjoy it.  Remember, it's not the same series...these characters have and are going through so much more than our original team did so the books have a bit of a different feel but everything you love about the essentials of Lexi Blake's characters is all there!

~ HAPPY READING ~

Excerpt:

“This place is beautiful,” he said when she hesitated. She nodded but didn’t move from her seat. “I love it here. I went to college in Denver, but I always missed this place. When I was younger, my dad had a house in Creede. He started the business there, but when he could, he moved us out of town. My dad was a loner, I suppose. Creede has a population of four hundred and Dad thought that was way too many people.” “I know the feeling. I lived in London for a while. That was definitely too many people.” He kept his tone even. It was odd. Now that he was here, that hunger he always felt was tempered by her fear. He’d thought he would take anything offered to him, but he couldn’t having met her. If the blonde had offered herself up, he would have turned her down. Over the two hours they’d sat in the booth, eating fried food and drinking beer, he’d figured something out. Some people were more special than others. River was special. He should be more cynical. He could hear Damon Knight telling him to be cautious, but he couldn’t make himself do it. Perhaps it was the fact that he didn’t have a long well of history to draw from and to teach him that this was likely a mistake. It didn’t feel like a mistake. “Wow. I’ve never been farther than Kansas City.” She still wasn’t moving and her voice had taken on a tremulous tone. His heart constricted, and it was surprisingly easy to not listen to his dick. His dick was pleading with him to get aggressive. His dick was trying to convince him that if he could get inside her, she would accept him. Yeah, he wasn’t going to listen to his dick. “If you’ve changed your mind, I can call my brother to pick me up. I have a phone and so does he. His number is programmed in. I don’t want to scare you. I had a good time talking to you tonight. It was one of the nicest nights I’ve had in a long time.” Ever. It was the best night ever. It was the first night he felt normal, though he wasn’t exactly sure what that word meant. Comfortable was a better one. That tight feeling in his chest had eased as he’d sat in the booth with River and Tucker and Heather. Although he’d hated lying to her. She finally turned, looking at him. Her eyes shone in the moonlight. “You mean that, don’t you?” He wanted to touch her. He’d had to force his hands not to move toward her all night long. The most he’d allowed himself was to have their hips and shoulders touch as they’d sat next to each other. He’d decided it had been a good thing he’d sat next to her because he was fairly certain he had a case of Big Tag’s crazy eyes, and she would have seen them had he sat across from her. “I do mean it. Please don’t get me wrong. I want you. I would like nothing more in the world than to take you into that cabin, lay you out, and make a feast of you. I want to kiss you and when I say that I don’t merely mean your lips. I want to put my mouth all over your body. But more than I want that, I want you to like me.” It was important somehow. He wouldn’t see her after tonight, but he couldn’t stand the idea that she was afraid of him. Everyone was afraid of him. Everyone he knew was waiting for his powder keg to blow, but he’d sworn to himself earlier in the evening that it wouldn’t blow around her. He would protect her even if it was only for one night.

NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband, three kids, and the laziest rescue dog in the world. She began writing at a young age, concentrating on plays and journalism. It wasn’t until she started writing romance and urban fantasy that she found the stories of her heart. She likes to find humor in the strangest places and believes in happy endings no matter how odd the couple, threesome, or foursome may seem.

Faux Pas by Natasha Madison - Cover Reveal

Faux Pas by Natasha Madison releases
1 October, 2018
Amazon KU link will go live on the release date!

Book Description:

Meghan Five days in Paris sounded like a great idea for three friends. Especially when amazing wine was in play. It didn't matter that our rented “apartment” only had one bed, and barely enough space to breathe, we were in Paris and our motto was c'est la vie. Nothing would faze us, not even the rude waiter at the first restaurant we went to, or the insanely hot manger who was insulted when a bottle of wine was returned. Nothing could bring me down or knock me off my path to the best vacation of my life. Alex I had six days in Paris and then I'd go back to my wine vineyard. It was smooth sailing, until three "americans" came into the restaurant and returned my newest full bodied, savory creation. I ignored her until she stormed out of the restaurant looking for a taxi at one in the morning. I couldn't leave her wandering around the streets of Paris, could I? I’d give her a ride, make sure she was safe, and my duty would be done. Except, was it? Something about her pulled me. This could be a vacation fling. After all, there is no real reason for her to know my interesting secret. I'm France’s most eligible bachelor. This faux pair is almost a faux pas...

When her nose isn't buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she's in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It's a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn't listen to her...

Book Description:

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy STANDALONE novel.

We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod” and she was “Montana,” but of course, those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind.

Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape—my sanctuary.

Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out.

From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed.

She was an addiction.

At first, we knew nothing about each other’s real identities…and she was adamant that we keep things that way. Anonymity had no effect on our unstoppable chemistry, though. If anything, it allowed us to open up even more in ways we may not have otherwise.

Eden was funny, intelligent, gorgeous—everything I’d ever wanted in a woman.

But I couldn’t really have her.

I had accepted things would have to stay the way they were—until the day I found a clue that led me straight to her.

So I took a chance.

And that was when our love story really began.

Needing a few seconds to prepare, I closed my eyes the moment I knew he was about to turn on the camera. I don’t know why I was so afraid to see him. Maybe I was worried his looks would somehow change the way I viewed him. I hated that I’d even had that thought. I didn’t want to be unattracted to him physically because I was so very drawn to him in every other way. Shouldn’t those be the ways that mattered? I was scared I would somehow feel differently about him, and he deserved better than to be judged on his physical appearance. “You can open your eyes,” he said. My heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. Here goes. One, two, three… When I saw him right in front of me, my mouth fell open. Oh. Oh my. Oh wow. Big, glowing eyes. Perfect nose. Stubbled, angular jaw. Full lips. Strong arms. I just kept blinking because I couldn’t believe my eyes. He looked like a model or a movie star. A rush of insecurity hit me. Is this a joke? No, it wasn’t. It was really him. Ryder. Oh my God. The lust consuming me made me feel almost guilty. But I was so damn relieved that he was truly as beautiful on the outside as I believed him to be on the inside. He was almost too beautiful, if there were such a thing. He looked nothing like the vague image I’d formed in my head, which was sort of like a silhouette without a clear face but with a brown beard, kind of like a hipster. Not sure why I’d pictured him like that. It was kind of funny how off base I was. This was not what I’d been expecting. Because how could someone so thoughtful, attentive, creative, and considerate be so strikingly handsome that he made me speechless? And it was clear now that his sexy voice absolutely fit him. “You’re…” I hesitated. “Oh shit.” He laughed. “What are you thinking?” “No. No, no, no. Nothing bad at all. I just don’t even know how to articulate it. You’re…beautiful, Ryder. Absolutely beautiful.” He let out a breath. “And you’re…handsome, Eden. Very handsome.” His impish grin was so sexy. I chuckled. “I know beautiful is an odd term for a man, but you are. All this time you’ve been hiding from me when you’re drop-dead gorgeous. Why?” “You really did think I was ashamed of my looks, huh?” “Well, I’d be lying if I said that didn’t cross my mind. I wondered if there was something you were self-conscious about. That always made me a little sad. But it never mattered to me, because I’ve been connecting with you on a deeper level.” “I think that’s exactly why I didn’t want to change things,” he said. “Why fix something if it ain’t broken?” When I fell silent, he asked, “What are you thinking?” A nervous energy overtook me. “Nothing. I’m…still just taking you in.” “Okay. Let me know when you’re done so I can stop sucking in my abs.”
