My Review:

Boyfriend for Hire is one of those great 'I just need to escape from the world' reads.  It's the perfect book for a sunny afternoon or heck even a rainy one, where you can curl up and smile at the words put on the page.  It's an easy sweet read with just the right amount of steam.

I loved both the hero and the heroine, though I was partial to the heroine in this story.  I feel like if I was still in my dating years I would have been a lot like her, so I could really see myself in the story which is always a nice tough when reading a contemporary romance.  I did love the hero, I just had small issue with him which we will discuss in a minute, but in general he's just one of those great guy type heroes.  He's working his hardest to live his life, it may be in an unconventional way but it works for him...well it did, until a fiery but cautious women is put in his path.  The one thing I really enjoyed about him is that Kendall does a great job of really putting his feelings and his struggle with them on the pages.  Nic doesn't just tumble in to a relationship lightly or easily with Elle, he really struggles to come to terms with the situation he is in and the feelings he is developing.

So why only four stars from me and why didn't I madly love Nic.  Well, first we'll tall Nic.  At the beginning of the story I got the impression that he was going to have been an 'escort' but not an 'Escort' if you know what I mean, lol.  I thought he was going to be the illusive he dates you but he doesn't end up in bed with you and I was disappointed to discover that wasn't the case.  Plenty of times we read romances where the girl is the escort and she stipulates that the one thing she won't do is sleep with her clients, or that is the 'rule' for the company she works for and I guess I just had high hopes and was slightly lead to believe that this would be the case for Nic. I would love to see the hero who refuses to go that far!  The other thing I didn't like is that I felt like there never was closure for Elle in her relationship with the ex.  The fact is that ex isn't going away, since he is best friends with her brother, and he's also a huge jerk, there's a lot talk about him in the beginning and then he just kinda falls of the pages and well, you 'guys' who have followed my reviews know...where was the vindication!  I am all about the jerks in books getting their comeuppance and I really missed it in this one.

All in all this is a great read.  It's funny, it's full of heart, and it's got the steaminess you want from a romance.  It's a quick easy read and you won't regret having picked it up!

Book Description:
He’s bossy, moody, and overprotective.

He’s also a pro athlete who needs to focus on winning games and staying out of the headlines. I’m fiercely independent and need a man like I need a second period each month. So when our worlds collide, I never expected him to be the one to jump in and save me. Especially not when my roommate disappears, leaving me with her baby. I’m clueless about babies—and it shows. Good thing Alexei isn’t. With six nieces and nephews and an apparent hero complex, the dude is both sexy and more than capable. It’s a combination that makes it easy to forget we’re just playing house.

My Review:

This was such a fun sweet read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it is the perfect book to dive into when you just need an easy escape or to recover from a massive book hangover.  Its just one of those books that is so easy to read and lovey to enjoy that it is a great book to pick up any time you need a pick up.  Now, that doesn't mean the story isn't moving, because it definitely is.  I loved the premise of this story.  I loved that this woman who is left in an extraordinary situation doesn't give up, doesn't walk out on the responsibility that has been left on her shoulders, no she embraces it, she fights for it, she gives everything she has to make sure to give her very best.  I love that she takes this child completely under her wing, when she has no clue why her room mate left her, she has not idea how to care for a child, she has no money to support herself much less a child, but she does it and she does it with the fierceness that any mother would posses.

Alexei, what isn't to love...other than he was of course, as seems to be the formula, prior to Ryleigh he was a bit of a man whore.  If you are wanting to see a bit more of that side of him he does show up in Kendall's book Dear Jane, but you totally do not need to have read that to enjoy this story.  I loved that he is just this big 'ol linebacker with a teddy bear heart.  I loved that he doesn't even really think twice about helping Ry, that he doesn't try to be her Knight in Shining armor exactly, but that he has the ability to help and he does.  Does he end up being a bit of savior for her, definitely but that was never his foremost intent and he never fails to understand that she is who she is and that she won't be stifled by a mach man *beats chest* kind of attitude from him.

This is in the end, like I mentioned about a really sweet story that you don't want to miss out on.  If you are a fan of Kendall's or contemporary romance in general, get this one on your TBR and when you need that break from the world, use this as a little vacation.  <3

Book Description:

I broke her heart ten years ago and left town. She hates me, and rightly so. It doesn’t matter that the rest of the country loves me, that I’m a starting quarterback with a multimillion-dollar contract. Because when I look in the mirror, all I see is a failure who was too young—and too afraid—to fight for what I wanted. But I’m not that guy anymore, and all I need is one shot to convince her. *** He has no idea what happened after he left. And now I’m supposed to work alongside him like we don’t have this huge, messy history? But I’m older now, wiser, and I won’t let anything stand in my way of doing a good job for this league. Not even one overpaid, arrogant player who thinks we’re going to kiss and make up. News flash, buddy: I am over you.

My Review:

If you are looking for a sweet romance, look no further.  I quite enjoyed this second chance romance, even when I wanted to hit the Hero on the head, lol.  Dear Jane is the story of first loves, the mistakes of youth, the fear of failure, the truth in forgiveness, and the knowledge that while we can't go back in time we can go back to the people who have always loved us if we go back with our hearts and minds open.

I really loved Jane.  She is an amazingly resilient heroine, who makes her way in the world on her own terms, through knowledge and hard work.  She has made palace for herself in a man's world and no one questions her right to be there.  I love her and Wes's back story and the way that kendall Ryan weaves in through their current relationship.  While it is a huge part of where they have come from and it plays a part in their coming back together, I loved that it wasn't the reason they came back together, that they find their older, more mature selves just as in love with each other as they had been when they were 'children'.

Wes is also a really great character, when I am not wanting to give him a good shake that is.  He knows what he wants in life and he works hard to get it, never giving up, never backing down.  Problem is he is n't the self-assured, cocky guy that the public thinks he is or that they think he should be.  he is actually quite self-depracating and unsure of himself, especially when it comes to the things that matter the most to him.  Why does he work so hard to be the best quarterback? Because of his fear that he won't be the best.  Why does he run repeatedly away from the love of his life?  Because he is afraid to lose his focus, because he is afraid he can't measure up to the man he believes and he thinks others believe he should be for her.  He is a bit of a conundrum, this star football player with the world at his finger tips, and yet he's afraid to grasp it.

I would have really enjoyed maybe a little more backstory on the why's of his prior relationship failing.  You know me and I like to see karma getting her own when someone deserves is and considering the relationship he is leaving when he switches teams I would have liked to see the outcome of that.  I also wouldn't have minded a closer look at the rivalry between the two teams now that the 'cat is out of the bag' on his prior relationship and since he has moved teams.

Dear Jane is a super quick sweet read and is the perfect book to give you just that little bit of romance you might need.  Its a great choice of book to pick up anytime, but especially when you are in-between reads and maybe not ready for your next 'big emotional' book.

This book is a sexy, slow-burning best-friends-to-lovers romance with a guaranteed HEA and no cheating. Dive in, and get ready to melt for Cam!

Excerpt:

I look up at Cam and meet his eyes, brimming with secrets. I need answers, and I need them now.   No more secrets, Cam.   “What’s going on?”   The man in my arms doesn’t answer with his words. Instead, he takes hold of the edge of my towel and pulls it from my body. I gasp at the sensation of our skin pressing intimately together. I brace myself against his chiseled arms, digging my fingers into his biceps for purchase.   He isn’t done. He lifts his hands, one to my hip, one to my cheek. His thumb draws a small circle on my exposed hip bone. With the side of his knuckle, he traces the outline of my lower lip. I stay very, very still so he won’t notice the slight shudder racing down my spine.   “I can’t tell you,” he says so softly that it breaks my heart.   “Yes, you can.” I barely recognize my own voice. Cam’s eyes, dark and hurting, are locked on my lips. I want to ease that pain.   And I think I know how.   I lean in closer, pulling myself up to his level with my hands on his chest. Our breaths mingle and everything is warm, the air between us aflame.   “You’re killing me.” These are the words that fall from Cam’s lips before they meet mine.   God.   My lips are locked against his in the softest of kisses. I catch his lower lip with my own, pressing every ounce of my feelings into him. Every thank you for being there for me. Every you’re perfect for being exactly what I need.   Can he feel how much I care for him?   He’s still for a whole Mississippi second—a second too long for me to bear.   Oh God. What have I done?   But the moment I pull away, Cam leans in. His hands are on my face, holding my lips against his. He tilts my head, digs his fingers into my hair, and opens his mouth to mine.   “Natalie . . .”   The sound of my name slipping so lustfully from the back of his throat sends a jolt all the way down. All the way down.   I pull myself even higher on my toes, clinging to him with my arms around his neck. He returns the favor, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me tight against him. Our mouths are magnetic, unable to separate, unwilling to stop.   My God. I’m kissing Cam.   I’m kissing my best friend.   I’m kissing him and I can’t stop.   I dart my tongue between his lips, caressing the underside of his upper lip. He growls, maddened by my bold move. His fingers blaze fiery trails down my neck and shoulders. His hands explore me, memorizing the slope of my back and the curve of my hips. Each touch is so soft, yet so electric.   Soon it’s all frantic kisses and eager moans that I’m pretty sure are coming from me. I press into his shoulders, leaving handprints on his chest. My fingers draw lines down his abdomen, then finally trace along the bulge beneath his towel.   Cam jerks back, his eyes full of questions.   But there’s no more time for questions. We’ve wasted far too much of it.

Book Description:

A best-friends-to-lovers standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan.
She says she needs some help ... in the bedroom. Come again? No, really come again. Sweet, nerdy, lovable Keaton. She's my best friend and has been for years. Sure she likes numbers and math, and thinks doing other people's taxes is fun. And I like ... none of that stuff. She's obsessed with her cat and reads novels I'll never understand, and yet we just click. There's no one I'd rather share breakfast burritos with or binge watch hours Netflix. She's my person. And so when she takes off her glasses and asks me to help her improve her skills in the bedroom, I barely have to think about it. Of course I'll help her. There's no one better for the job. I've been there for her through everything, why should this be any different? But what happens when she's ready to take her new-found confidence and move on?

My Review:

If you are looking for a fun, silly, (at times) steamy romance, you never have to look farther than a Kendall Ryan book.  She should on your go to list when you need a quick pick me up read that you know will always leave you smiling and with a happy heart.  That said I will admit going into this (even though I know better) with a little trepidation because come on, everyone's doing the nearly girl friends to lovers book lately and, ugh I was so ready for the annoying nerdy girl and the jerk of a super sexy way too cocky boy. Of course Kendall Ryan didn't fail me and while we get that geeky girl, though she's less of a geek to me and more of a work-a-holic who loves her 'geeky' job, she's not the annoying one you just want to bang on the head with your book while she whines about how she's too geeky for love and the boy...turns out that maybe he's the quiet sexy boy 'next door' that's just been waiting or his chance with the geeky girl from across the street.

I really really loved Slate, also..kinda in love with that name, Slate...not Slade, Slate.  It just rolls off your tongue.  ;-)  He's cocky in a non-aggressive way.  He knows he's handsome, he knows he can get what he wants and honestly sounds like if it's offered he isn't often opposed to taking it, but at the same time there is something genuinely humble about him.  Almost as though he is a bit embarrassed by his (mmmhmmmmm, what's the world I want) social prowess.

Keaton is a woman in charge of her life.  I love that about her.  She honestly gives two F*s what anyone else thinks about who she is, what she does, what she wants.  She is going to make her life happen on her own terms.  She's the strong independent woman we all want to be, but even with all that she is still lacking something and it's a deep romantic social connection.  What I love about her is that when she decides maybe it's her 'fault' (it's not) she takes charge and as Merida would say "decides to change her fate." What's the best way to go about that, lists of course...no actually it's ask your cocky sexy as heck best friends since you are in college to help you out and teach you the ways of romance.  Too bad, or is it, that romance turns out to be much much more than she ever bargained for.

I loved these two together, Slate is sweet, thoughtful, and even though he may not admit it secretly been in love with his best friend for years.  Keaton, is strong and yet scared in so many ways.  She's afraid to open herself up, to let someone love her because the idea of loving and losing is too great for her.  She's hard core friend zoned Slate, but it only takes one text to change it all and I am honestly so proud of this character for just being gutsy and putting her needs out there.  They of course have some downs in the middle of their ups. I will admit to getting a little frustrated with Keaton because it felt like she over reacted a time or two, but I think in the end it's simply her fear talking.  Slate, you just can't help but love him..as well as their group of friends, those ladies are a hoot.

If you are looking for a pick me up kind of book.  One to give you lots of lovely feels and leave you happy when you close the cover, look no further.  Love Machine is a good time read and another win from Kendall Ryan!

Book Description:

A best-friends-to lovers standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan.

After a rather uncomfortable ladies’ night involving a cucumber-wielding instructor with judgy eyes, I’m forced to admit my weaknesses. Rather than point blame at my lack of a sex life, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. As a junior executive who’s clawed her way up the corporate ladder, failure is not in my vocabulary. Confident and bold in other areas of my life, I have to admit it’s time to up my bedroom game. Asking my friend Slate Cruz is really the only option. Slate is like a walking billboard for sex. The man gets more ass than a toilet seat. There’s no way I’ll want more from this playboy than a little inspiration to revive my inner sex kitten. Except, what happens if I do?

Excerpt:

“I can’t believe I struck out every single time,” Keaton says with a whine. “I tried all night and not one goddamn penis wanted me to touch it. God, my fucking feet hurt so bad.” I loop my arm around her waist, partially to comfort her and partially to hold her up as we stagger down the sidewalk to her apartment. It’s almost two in the morning, and the streets are deserted. Only the predawn stars are watching over us. “Don’t think of it as striking out. Think of it as . . .” I wave my hand, searching for a positive spin. “Being selective. You just didn’t meet a good match, and it’s better to go home alone than with the wrong guy.” She growls loudly in frustration. “I’m notlooking for a friggin’ husband; I’m just trying to get laid! There’s no point in being picky. Face it, Slate, it’s not me who has the high standards here. Guys just don’t like me. End of story.” I stop in my tracks. “That’s not true.” She sways in my arms to face me with tipsy defiance. “Really? Because literally everything that happened tonight says different.” “So you had one bad night? Big deal. Plenty of guys like you.” “Prove it,” she insists, her eyes brimming with need and wounded pride. Her body is so warm, her scent so sweet, and it all feels perfectly natural to just lean in and . . . Our lips meet. She squeaks in surprise, but before I can pull away and apologize, she kisses me back. Hard. Her hot, soft mouth crushes against mine, opening with an intense hunger, her tongue demanding entrance, and I can’t help devouring her right back. I couldn’t stop, even if I wanted to. Why the hell haven’t I done this before? What have I been missing out on all these years? All my reservations and doubts are swept away in a wave of desire. No overthinking, no self-doubt, just chemistry. Pure, primal instinct. Our tongues touch and my heart rate triples because, holy fuck . . . I’m kissing my best friend. And, fuck me, I really, really like it. We break the kiss, both flushed and breathing a little harder, a powerful new tension buzzing between us. Goddamn . . . just that one moment of contact was enough to send every drop of blood traveling from my brain straight to my dick. Keaton’s never given me wood, not even once. Okay, that’s a lie. There was this one time that she rubbed my shoulders and her boob brushed my arm by accident, but that was just biology. That’s all that was. “That was . . .” I pause. It should have felt weird, like kissing my sister. I’ve always had a strictly platonic relationship with Keaton. But I can’t lie. It was perfect. Like a textbook-perfect kiss, chemistry and attraction, and just the right amount of tongue. And I want to do it again as soon as possible. “Yeah,” Keaton murmurs. Her gaze has darkened. She licks her lips and glances up at her apartment building. “Want to come inside?”

Book Description:

No women. No sex. No hooking up. This is the oath I took in solidarity with my best friend after a particularly heinous breakup left him shattered. No problem, right? Wrong. Because lately, I've begun developing big, messy feelings for our best female friend who we both swore was off-limits since we were sixteen years old. I shouldn't notice the way her hair turns golden when it catches the light, I shouldn't make it a goal to see her dimples when she laughs, I shouldn't find her knowledge on current affairs so sexy. I'm pretty sure she's oblivious, which is a good thing, I try to convince myself. Until one night after too many cocktails when we fall into bed together. I'm left with an awkward morning-after, and one of the hardest choices I've ever had to make. Confess how I feel, and potentially lose both of my best friends in the process, or bury my feelings and watch her move on? How can something so wrong feel so right?

Mister Tonight by Kendall Ryan - Review

KindleUS ~ KindleUK ~

iBooks ~ Nook ~ Google ~ Kobo ~ Audio

Book Description:

From New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan comes a standalone romance about a swoony single dad and the new neighbor he falls for.

Last night was the most embarrassing night of my life. I was THAT girl. You know, the highly intoxicated chick celebrating her thirtieth with her two best friends—the ones who are happily married. And the more I drank, the more I wanted to do something reckless to celebrate. By reckless, I meant the sexy and alluring man dressed in a business suit standing near the bar. You know his type—tall, dark, and handsome. I was sure he was out of my league, but I'd had just enough alcohol that things like that no longer seemed to matter. I'm not fat, mind you, but you can tell I like French fries, so there's that. He took me home and I enjoyed the hottest birthday sex of my life, well until it came to a screeching, and rather unwelcome halt. There's nothing quite like being interrupted mid-ride with a little voice asking: "What are you doing to my daddy?" Just kill me now…... or so I thought. Come to find out the man I rode like a bull at the rodeo is my new landlord.

My Review:

Mister Tonight is a lovely quick read that just plain made me happy.  There is a sweetness to the entire book that you can't help but swoon and smile over.  I will tell you that I was actually a little hesitant to go into it because I am always a little anxious about books where there is a single parent, especially a single father.  Usually the angst is too high for me or the book will have a single parent but that parent manages to basically live a life that doesn't seem to revolve around a child like it would in 'real-life'.  Mister Tonight was done so well on these fronts however.  Maddie is front and center from the beginning of this book and is always in the minds of our two main character as they navigate their relationship.  I will say that one thing that threw me off was Maddie's age, she was four but I had to keep reminding myself of that because she quite often seemed to act out of character for a four year old.  She was also quite spoiled, but I suppose those things might be the case for a single parent raising an only child.

I loved the slow burn of the relationship between Kate and Hunter. That they ended up really taking their time getting to know one another and that Kate took the time to look inward and figure out what she truly wanted out of life and all with out tons of angst, I really hate angst!

One of my favorite things about this couple is that they're just normal everyday people.  Hunter is a man who works a regular job, loves and takes care of his daughter, (as he should regardless of his circumstances) and is trying to navigate the world around him in his and his daughter's best interest.  Kate is a vivacious, free spirit, who is a hard worker, thoughtful, considerate, and giving.  She never falters to be a friend to a little 4 year old girl and eventually a wonderful mother.  They're just two regular people falling in love and making a family the best way they can and I appreciate that to no end.

Mister Tonight is full of funny moments, sweet memories being made, swoon worthy 'adult snuggling', and lots of love.  If you are looking for a cute sweet read with just the right amount of swoon and romance do not miss out on this book.  It's a fast read, you will likely finish it in one sitting and just the perfect thing for an afternoon/evening escape.

~ HAPPY READING ~
