The Fix Up by Kendall Ryan - Cover Reveal

I am very excited to help bring you the highly anticipated cover for THE FIX-UP, the standalone novel from New York Times Bestselling Author Kendall Ryan.

The Fix-Up releases on October 11.

The Fix Up Kendall Ryan ebook cover

Book Description:

From New York Times Bestseller, Kendall Ryan, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

My tempting, and very alpha friend Sterling Quinn is someone I consider off-limits. It's not just that we're friends, he's also a cocky, confident, and British, which means he's a walking aphrodisiac. But lately he's been giving me the look. You know the one. When he thinks I'm not paying attention, and his gaze lingers for too long. And then we start working together, and that's when the sexual tension between us gets so thick, I want to hack through it with a machete. I want to make all these deep feelings I've harbored for him disappear, because there's no way this can end well. The lines between business and pleasure become irrevocably blurred, and I'm stuck between a rock, and Sterling's very, very hard place. Rather than keep a level head about our growing attraction, Sterling wants to go all in, showing me just how explosive we can be together. But I've been around long enough to know that this British bad boy is more than my heart can handle. I'm not about to be cast aside like yesterday's underwear when he's done having fun. Sterling’s never been told no, and he's not about to put his ego aside and play by my rules. But I never thought he'd fight so dirty.

*This is a spin-off from the HITCHED series, but can be read as a standalone.*

Unnatural Souls by Linda Foster - Review and Giveaway

Unnatural Souls BT Ban

Author: Linda Foster
Publication Date:  9 August, 2016
Publisher: Glass House Press
Series:  Realm of the Claimed, Prequel
Genre:  Paranormal
Age Recommendation: 14 and up
Rating: 4 Stars

~ I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~

Book Description:

It's been almost a year since the night of the accident that should have killed Grace. Nearly a year since her brother, Ash, sold his soul to save her. She survived, but that wasn’t the end of their story. Not even close. In the months since, Grace’s life has turned upside down. She can move objects with her mind, teleport in a blink of an eye, see dead people … and that's just the tip of the crazy train. And that would be fine, really … if she had any idea how to control it. Instead, she’s stuck in a body that does things she doesn’t understand. And now, the contract her brother made for her life is drawing to a close. Which means he’s running out of time before the demon comes to collect his soul. Unless Grace can find a way to save him. When an angel named Michael shows up with answers and an offer to help her, she jumps at the chance—and agrees to help him with his own mission as the price. Then she finds out that Michael is working with another demon. That the deal she’s made … is no better than the one from which she’s trying to save Ash. And she’s faced with a choice: turn and walk away, or try to save her brother—by working with the very monsters who have nearly destroyed them both.

My Review:

This is one of those books that both leaves you satisfied but full of questions and few answers, which considering this is a prequel to an up-coming series I think is probably a good thing.  Unnatural Souls is a fast read (only 116 pages) and it is jam packed full of action and suspense.

Grace is dying, in fact she isn't just dying she's dead, until her younger brother offers up his soul in exchange for her life.  However, Ash's beautiful and grand gesture has gone terribly wrong for Grace and she's left living something of a half life with incredible powers she's unable to control and a ticking time clock on her brother's mortality.  One year, she has one year from the minute of her death to figure out a way to save her brother from having his soul taken straight to hell, only right now she can't even figure out how to save herself.  In walks an Arch Angel, determined to save the world, and he comes with a command, demand, and an ultimatum.  If Grace can help his mission, if she can control her powers, he will save her and her brother.  To do this he sends Grace the help of his friend who fell from Heaven, Kali who is kick ass and full of sass and snark.

I really enjoyed this look into a world of angels and demons that are a bit different than what you may be used to.  We've got demons with a conscience and angels with an agenda.  A teenager lost and fighting to save her brother who loved her enough to give up his soul so that she could live, perhaps with a side of guilt thrown in on his part.  I loved getting to know Grace and a little bit of Kali.  I am looking forward to getting to know more of Michael and Ash in future books.

This book is a fast paced read that jumps time a bit, it's 1 year's worth of time in just over 100 pages so you can see how that would happen.  It's a great first look into this new world though and basically one huge teaser with a lot of action thrown in.  This prequel will definitely pull you in and have you wanting to come back for more.  If you are a paranormal fan grab this one up and get ready for what is looking to be a fantastic series.

Linda Foster Bio:

Linda Foster was born and raised in Colorado, where she still lives with her (very patient) husband, two (very spoiled) ferrets and (equally spoiled) dog. Linda became an avid reading enthusiast the moment she picked up her first book, and has grown steadily worse. By the time she was fifteen years old, her library had become too big for her shelves, and she was forced to donate all her books to the local school, just to make room for new ones. She started writing short novellas for her friends in middle school, and expanded into full-length novels several years later.   The Realm of the Claimed novellas are her first published work.

The Collector's Society by Heather Lyons - The Forgotten Mountain Excerpt!

This is one of my favorite fantasy series and today I get to share an awesome excerpt form the third book in the series, The Forgotten Mountain which is available now.  Coming soon the fourth book, the Lost Codex...keep an eye out for it and if you haven't started this series before, I HIGHLY recommend it.  The way Heather Lyons' mind works astounds me!  I have so much love for this series and these characters!

Book Description:

After years spent in Wonderland, Alice Reeve learned the impossible was quite possible after all. She thought she left such fantastical realities behind when she finally returned to England.

Now Alice has become a member of the clandestine Collectors' Society, and the impossible has found her again in the form of an elusive villain set on erasing entire worlds. As she and the rest of the Society race to bring this mysterious murderer to justice, the fight becomes painfully personal.

Lives are being lost. Loved ones are shattered or irrevocably altered. Each step closer Alice gets to the shadowy man she hunts, the more secrets she unravels, only to reveal chilling truths. If she wants to win this war and save millions of lives, Alice must once more embrace the impossible and make the unimaginable, imaginable.

Sometimes, the rabbit hole leads to terrifying places.

* This is the third book in the adult romance/fairy tale Collectors' Society series.

“Chances are,” I say to Mary, “it will be as reported.”

She holds her weapon out, testing the weight. “They were given ten minutes to search the place.” A loud click sounds in the van as she pumps the chamber. “Even for those as skilled at retrievals like Finn and the A.D., ten minutes is nothing. Wendy asked the impossible of them.”

My partner’s name is a fist to my belly, but rather than leave me desperate to curl into a ball and weep uselessly about the unfairness of life and how I utterly failed Finn by going against my instincts whilst leaving him behind, it only solidifies the cold rage icing my veins.

Vengeance, the Caterpillar once told me, can be a delicious and fulfilling meal. Be certain it is what you want to eat, though, because as it travels through your body, it will seep into every last part of you. Your stomach may hurt afterward; you may even want to purge the contents. And yet, even if you can, traces of it will always remain.

My former Grand Advisor, whose head was struck from his body by the Queen of Hearts and whose body was fashioned into a gruesome clutch to sate twisted, vile needs, consistently proffered excel- lent advice. There were many I wished to wreak vengeance upon over the years, yet typically practiced restraint per his wise words.

He is dead. The man I am in love with is missing—believed to be dead by most. Mary’s love is also missing and assumed dead. Millions of souls have perished at the hands of villains through the destruction of catalysts. There has been too much devastation. Too much loss.

I am ready to eat that meal now.

✿ THE COLLECTORS’ SOCIETY (The Collectors’ Society, #1)

Soon, she’s whisked to New York and initiated into the Collectors’ Society, a secret organization whose members confirm that famous stories are anything but straightforward and that what she knows about the world is only a fraction of the truth.

It’s there she discovers villains are afoot—ones who want to shelve the lives of countless beings. Assigned to work with the mysterious and alluring Finn, Alice and the rest of the Collectors’ Society race against a doomsday clock in order to prevent further destruction . . . but will they make it before all their endings are erased?

From the New York Times Bestselling author of MISTER O and BIG ROCK, comes a hot & hilarious new standalone romantic comedy…

I’ve been told I have quite a gift.

Hey, I don’t just mean in my pants. I’ve got a big brain too, and a huge heart of gold. And I like to use all my gifts to the fullest, the package included. Life is smooth sailing....

Until I find myself stuck between a rock and a sexy roommate, which makes for one very hard…place.

Because scoring an apartment in this city is harder than finding true love. So even if I have to shack up with my buddy’s smoking hot and incredibly amazing little sister, a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.

I can resist Josie. I’m disciplined, I’m focused, and I keep my hands to myself, even in the mere five-hundred square feet we share. Until the one night she insists on sliding under the covers with me. It’ll help her sleep after what happened that day, she says.

Surprise—neither one of us sleeps.

And even though we agree to return to roomies-without-benefits, I quickly realize I want more than someone to split the utilities with. Now all I want is to spend every night—and every day—with my gorgeous roommate.

Did I mention she’s also one of my best friends? That she’s brilliant, beautiful and a total firecracker? Guess that makes her the full package too.

What’s a man stuck in a hard place to do?

I’m at your service. Come and ride on my Joy Stick…

That's what I like to say to the ladies. Or I would if I were total pig. It's far too easy in this world to strut around like a peacock when you’ve got all these other features in your favor. But just like the custom cars I build with class and sophistication, that’s how I treat my women.

Don’t worry. I absolutely do my best work dirty…both in the shop, and between the sheets. Work and play — that’s what my life has been, and I f&*king love it. I’m completely, 100% driven. Until one woman comes along and throws a wrench in my plans. The one woman I should absolutely, positively never take for a joy ride.

Now that's all I want to do with her…she’s so far off-limits, but that’s exactly where I want to go with her.

Get ready for a wild ride…

The Princess in Black by Shannon Hale - A Mom Monday Review

A Mom Monday Review

Author: Shannon Hale
Publication Date:  14 April, 2015
Publisher: Candlewick
Series:  The Princess in Black, book 1
Genre:  Children's Fantasy
Age Recommendation: 5 and Up
Rating: 5 stars

~ I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~

Book Description:

Princess Magnolia is having hot chocolate and scones with Duchess Wigtower when . . . Brring! Brring! The monster alarm! A big blue monster is threatening the goats! Stopping monsters is no job for dainty Princess Magnolia. But luckily Princess Magnolia has a secret —she’s also the Princess in Black, and stopping monsters is the perfect job for her! Can the princess sneak away, transform into her alter ego, and defeat the monster before the nosy duchess discovers her secret? From award-winning writing team of Shannon and Dean Hale and illustrator LeUyen Pham, here is the first in a humorous and action-packed chapter book series for young readers who like their princesses not only prim and perfect, but also dressed in black.

My Review:

This is a very special book to me because it is the first book that made my youngest daughter fall in love with reading. My older daughter never struggled to read, once she started she's just never quit. She is almost as much of a book nerd as me, plenty of nights I find her up reading well after midnight. *gasp* My younger however was a 'late reader'. She struggled learning to put letters together, to understand how to sound them out, how to make them into words. She wanted to be a reader so badly, her sister, her mom, her dad, all of us are huge readers, she would see us sitting around with our books and she wanted to be a part of that but became discouraged when she just couldn't grasp the concepts and find a book that caught her interest enough to make her want to read fully on her own...until The Princess in Black.

Pink frilly dress wearing, tea making Princess Magnolia is exactly the princess you expect her to be. She's proper, she's poised, she is regal but; it's all a cover up. What no one knows is that Princess Magnolia also dons a black mask and cape and instead of just making tea and being a princess she is the hero her land needs and saves them all from the monsters that live a bit to close.

Besides the reason I stated above I love this book because I love the lesson that a girl can be who ever she wants to be even when she's expected to do certain things, act certain ways. The lesson that a girl can be more than just one thing, she can be both a princess and a secret dare-doing hero. The lesson that a girl is more than what society expects and she doesn't HAVE to play by society's rules.

We loved the action and adventure contained in the book. There is a real story here, not just simple sentences and words created to make a child read... This is a book created to make a child LOVE to read. To give them a story that is interesting, fun, and exciting. I loved that when my youngest would read a chapter she would run to me to tell me all about it right away. It excited her and had her going back to read over and over. She's a child who went from wanting to read on her own but struggling and getting discouraged by it to reading a book in three days, imagine the excitement of that. Of her knowing she can do it and the joy of getting to share it with her family!

Finally the last thing I loved is the pages. I loved the feel and thickness of the pages. I love the illustrations, bright, engaging, and fun. The pages are glossy and thick making them very tactile and easy for little hands, a good transition from the thickness of a board book.

This is a great read for any early reader but also most middle grade readers. It may be a quick book for them but it's totally fun and enjoyable and who doesn't need just a quick fun read every now and again? I suggest this for anyone with little readers in their house but highly suggest the series for those that have readers who are struggling.

Shannon's mother says she was a storyteller from birth, jabbering endlessly in nonsensical baby-talk. Once she could speak, she made up stories and bribed younger siblings to perform them in mini-plays until, thankfully, an elementary school teacher introduced her to the wonder of written fiction. At age 10, she began to write books, mostly fantasy stories where she was the heroine.

She continued to write secretly for years while pursuing acting in television, stage, and improv comedy and a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Utah. Shannon was finally forced out of the writers' closet when she received her Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Montana.

A few years and many rejections later, she published her first book, The Goose Girl, an ALA Teens' Top Ten and Josette Frank Award winner. Enna Burning, River Secrets, and Forest Born continue the award-winning Books of Bayern series. Newbery Honor winner Princess Academy is followed by New York Times best seller Princess Academy: Palace of Stone and the upcoming Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters. She is currently writing a third book to complete the series. Book of a Thousand Days received a Cybils award and was featured on many best of the year lists. Her first book for adults, Austenland, spawned a film which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. The movie was released theatrically and on video by Sony Pictures Classics. Shannon co-wrote the screenplay with director Jerusha Hess. A companion novel, Midnight in Austenland, is now in paperback. Her third book for adults, The Actor and the Housewife, was the City Weekly readers' choice winner for best novel of the year. She and her husband Dean Hale co-wrote the graphic novels Rapunzel's Revenge, an Al Roker's Book Club for Kids selection, and its sequel, Utah Book Award winner Calamity Jack, both illustrated by Nathan Hale. They're launching an illustrated chapter book series with the upcoming Princes in Black, illustrated by LeUyen Pham.

Shannon's Ever After High books have been runaway bestsellers, supported by Mattel's animated series and doll line. She makes her home near Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, with her super-human husband, their four young children, and their pet, a small plastic pig.

Franka Drakkar wears a mask. A mask she never takes off to protect herself in a world of malice, intrigue and danger.

When Noc meets Franka, over wine and whiskey, her mask slips and Noc knows it’s her—only her—and he has to find a way to get her to come home with him.

And then make her want to stay.

Midnight Soul - RDL teaser 1

I remembered that look. I relished that look. Not only on my Antoine but any lover I’d had (but, obviously, getting it from Antione was far more rewarding). It was a look I worked toward, putting great energy and imagination into it, losing myself in these endeavors, feeling free of my name, my history, my secrets, my responsibilities, and reveling in my success as if I’d scaled mountains. It was my greatest talent outside, of course (as any good Drakkar would excel), honing in on any vulnerability and manipulating it for the greatest possible gain—coin, jewels, furs, favors, silence, information, or simply for amusement. Seeing the look on Noctorno at that moment, I knew Circe too had performed well (admirably well, I might add, considering her dismal past). I also recognized—focusing on it keenly—what Circe might have missed, or perhaps what Noctorno hid from her understanding, or simply just sensing, how she came to him. He was not done. Oh no. If she had not given indication she wished him out of her bedchamber, he’d still be in it. Indeed, he might be in it all night, and not to sleep. He might have been in it, perhaps, for days. As these thoughts flitted in my mind, I became aware he’d fully entered the room, was stopped not far from my chair, and was standing, chin tipped down, eyes regarding me with a scrutiny that I found so uncomfortable I actually shifted in my seat. I ceased this reaction the instant I became aware of it, appalled at myself. Giving something away so easily? Especially something like discomfiture? You’ve ruined me, I snapped silently at Antoine. My dead lover had no rejoinder. “You okay?” Noctorno asked. “Am I what?” I asked in return. His head gave a slight twitch before he went on, “You okay? All right?” His voice lowered. “It’s been a tough day, babe, for all of us. Including you.” I looked beyond him to the fire, lifting my wine to my lips but not sipping it until after I murmured, “I’m perfectly fine.” “Yeah, right,” he stated, and the disbelief veritably dripping from his tone made my gaze flick immediately back to him. This meant I watched as he sauntered right in front of me to the chair accompanying mine, threw his lengthy frame in it and reached for the wine at the table that separated our seats. He also reached for the extra glass. These were seats, I shall add, that were turned at corners to each other with a small, round table in between, so  my knee was nearly touching his. He poured. It was on the tip of my tongue to share that I had not invited him to attend me. Alas, I became distracted by his long fingers, and the words died in my mouth.

And Don’t Miss the First Books in the Fantasyland Series!

Kristin Ashley - headshotKristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing’s changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
