Book Description:

It's been almost a year since the night of the accident that should have killed Grace. Nearly a year since her brother, Ash, sold his soul to save her. She survived, but that wasn’t the end of their story. Not even close. In the months since, Grace’s life has turned upside down. She can move objects with her mind, teleport in a blink of an eye, see dead people … and that's just the tip of the crazy train. And that would be fine, really … if she had any idea how to control it. Instead, she’s stuck in a body that does things she doesn’t understand. And now, the contract her brother made for her life is drawing to a close. Which means he’s running out of time before the demon comes to collect his soul. Unless Grace can find a way to save him. When an angel named Michael shows up with answers and an offer to help her, she jumps at the chance—and agrees to help him with his own mission as the price. Then she finds out that Michael is working with another demon. That the deal she’s made … is no better than the one from which she’s trying to save Ash. And she’s faced with a choice: turn and walk away, or try to save her brother—by working with the very monsters who have nearly destroyed them both.

My Review:

This is one of those books that both leaves you satisfied but full of questions and few answers, which considering this is a prequel to an up-coming series I think is probably a good thing.  Unnatural Souls is a fast read (only 116 pages) and it is jam packed full of action and suspense.

Grace is dying, in fact she isn't just dying she's dead, until her younger brother offers up his soul in exchange for her life.  However, Ash's beautiful and grand gesture has gone terribly wrong for Grace and she's left living something of a half life with incredible powers she's unable to control and a ticking time clock on her brother's mortality.  One year, she has one year from the minute of her death to figure out a way to save her brother from having his soul taken straight to hell, only right now she can't even figure out how to save herself.  In walks an Arch Angel, determined to save the world, and he comes with a command, demand, and an ultimatum.  If Grace can help his mission, if she can control her powers, he will save her and her brother.  To do this he sends Grace the help of his friend who fell from Heaven, Kali who is kick ass and full of sass and snark.

I really enjoyed this look into a world of angels and demons that are a bit different than what you may be used to.  We've got demons with a conscience and angels with an agenda.  A teenager lost and fighting to save her brother who loved her enough to give up his soul so that she could live, perhaps with a side of guilt thrown in on his part.  I loved getting to know Grace and a little bit of Kali.  I am looking forward to getting to know more of Michael and Ash in future books.

This book is a fast paced read that jumps time a bit, it's 1 year's worth of time in just over 100 pages so you can see how that would happen.  It's a great first look into this new world though and basically one huge teaser with a lot of action thrown in.  This prequel will definitely pull you in and have you wanting to come back for more.  If you are a paranormal fan grab this one up and get ready for what is looking to be a fantastic series.

~ HAPPY READING ~

Linda Foster Bio:

Linda Foster was born and raised in Colorado, where she still lives with her (very patient) husband, two (very spoiled) ferrets and (equally spoiled) dog. Linda became an avid reading enthusiast the moment she picked up her first book, and has grown steadily worse. By the time she was fifteen years old, her library had become too big for her shelves, and she was forced to donate all her books to the local school, just to make room for new ones. She started writing short novellas for her friends in middle school, and expanded into full-length novels several years later.   The Realm of the Claimed novellas are her first published work.
