Book Description:

Jordan Velsor didn’t want to need anyone. After dumping her cheating fiancĂ©, caring for her sick dad, and nearly being crushed along with her car during a violent storm, she’s pretty much at her breaking point. If anyone needs some luck, it's Jordan, but the last thing she wants is gorgeous Nick Rinaldi, her landlord’s grandson, hovering over her while she nurses a bad cold. The wounded Navy doctor seems too good to be true... which means he probably is.

Nick Rinaldi left the Navy broken and adrift, wondering if he would ever practice medicine again. When his grandparents' tenant is almost killed by a falling tree during a storm, he discovers Jordan is not only in shock, but suffering from pneumonia. Not one to miss an opportunity to play white knight, Nick arrives at her cottage to take care of her during the storm... But the lovely teacher has a fierce independent streak, and as he learns more about her, he wants to do more than merely help.

Can Jordan and Nick let go of their separate pasts and seize their future together?

The deep rattling cough woke her from a restless sleep. This cold was kicking her ass, but even though all she wanted to do was burrow under the covers, she was out of tissues, and the dog needed to go outside.

Glancing out her window, the weather had worsened. She almost would have been content putting out a pad for Gertie to go inside, but her tissues and cough medicine were in the back seat of her car. She had to go out regardless.

“Come on, Gertie, time to pee.”

With a whimper and a moan from her spot at the other end of the couch, her little rescue buried her face in the corner. Gertie was no dummy.

“Look, if I have to go out, so do you. Your bladder is the size of a thimble, and it’s going to get even worse later.”

The dog sighed—sighed her annoyance at Jordan. A dog with an attitude. Didn’t it figure? Gertie practically rolled off the plush cushion and settled on her back on the blue patterned rug. Her short little legs were straight up in the air, feigning death.

Jordan felt pretty dead herself, but they still had to go outside.

The wind howled, and all the windows in the cottage shook like it was going to lift up and fly away. Gust after gust provided a not-so-subtle reminder that the nor’easter currently blowing across Long Island was going to make all their lives miserable. This storm was brutal. It had been wreaking havoc for the last twelve hours and based on the latest weather report it had slowed down to a crawl, meaning it was going to stick around for a while.

Grabbing the dog’s leash, Jordan gently nudged the little furry blob on the floor. Nothing. She didn’t budge. “Gertie! Come on!”

Ninety-nine percent of the time, she loved the little mutt. This moment definitely fell into the one percent.

After she broke her engagement, Jordan had the sudden urge to have a pet. A lot of people told her it would pass, but she knew that wasn’t the case. Jordan needed unconditional love in her home, so she kept her eyes open for the right opportunity. She couldn’t handle a puppy or a kitten, so when she wandered around a rescue fair one Sunday this past September, she found herself completely enamored with Gertie. A stubby-legged little mutt, Gertie was a tube of golden fur with a pointy snout and big, soulful brown eyes. She was about five years old, and her owner had just died, leaving the little dog all alone.

Jordan felt a kinship with the pooch, and took her home that day.

Lina Rinaldi, who usually frowned on her cottage tenants having pets, took to the dog right away, and Gertie loved the older woman right back.

As Jordan stared at the lump still upside down on the floor, she was about ready to offer Mrs. Rinaldi full custody. Then a deep, rasping cough shook Jordan to the core. It racked her body violently, and pain shot around her chest. God, she felt awful.

“Come on,” she said firmly to the pooch. “We’ll skip the leash this time. Out and in. Let’s get this over with.”

Gertie rolled over and trotted to the front door, giving Jordan the side eye as she waited. Donning her parka and a pair of lined wellies that she pulled over her pajama pants, Jordan grabbed the remote and unlocked her car. When she opened the front door, she was hit by a blast of wind, rain, and sleet that stung her cheeks and chilled her to the bone. “Lord, it’s miserable.” Looking down at Gertie, she nodded. “Okay, let’s make this quick.”

The two of them bolted outside, with Gertie heading for her favorite patch of grass and Jordan heading for her car. She stopped when she coughed so hard she could barely breathe. It hurt. She’d never had a chest cold that hurt so much. Finally, yanking open the door, she heard her pooch barking from the small covered porch. Jordan grabbed the bag that was filled with some basic food provisions, juice, tea, tissues, and a selection of over-the-counter cold remedies. She slammed the car door shut, and on her way back inside she noticed the whitecaps on Jennings Bay. The wind was forcing massive amounts of water into the coves and harbors around town, and she hoped the it didn’t breach the seawall surrounding the property. Jordan’s cottage was closer to Cove Road, but the Rinaldis’ big house was at risk.

Without any further delay, Jordan made it back to the porch, feeling chilled and soaked to the bone despite all the foul weather gear she’d put on. Gertie was barking frantically, having positioned herself under the old wooden swing, and Jordan was starting to lose her patience.

“Gertie, what the hell is the problem?”

That’s when she heard the groan and crack. Jordan looked up just as a large section of an old oak tree, about fifty feet from the house, gave way. Throwing her body against the wall to avoid any debris, Jordan watched as the massive tree split in half and came crashing down, crushing her car in the process.

If she had waited ten more seconds to head outside, Jordan would have been killed.

Frozen in place for—she didn’t know how long—Jordan startled when a large, strong arm wrapped around her.

She looked away from the wreckage in the front yard and into the gorgeous face of Nick Rinaldi.
“Damn. Are you alright?”

Was she? She wasn’t sure. Jordan tried to answer, but she had trouble catching her breath. Sucking in air, he kept her steady when they walked into the house.

Waiting for the dog before he closed the door, Nick sat her on the bench in the entryway. Glancing in the canvas tote from the market, his brow furrowed.

“You’re sick? What’s wrong?”

With a low rattling cough that had him pressing the back of his hand to her forehead, she muttered, “Chest cold.”

Shaking his head, he helped her off with her boots and jacket. “Let’s get you settled in bed, and I’ll go get my bag. You’ve got a lot more than a chest cold.”

“My car…”
“We can’t do anything about your car until the storm passes, so put it out of your head. It’s the last thing you need to worry about.”

“Are you kidding? Not worry about it?” How was she supposed to get to work or see her dad? How was she supposed to do anything if she didn’t have a car? The pain in her chest wasn’t just from her cough at that moment, but at the wave of dread—helplessness—that rushed through her.

“One thing at a time.” Nick, a former Navy doctor, was single minded. And as much as Jordan didn’t want to admit it, he was right. In this weather, there was nothing she could do.

“Come on,” he said. “Lead the way.”

“I’ll be fine,” she said, stopping in her tracks. Those few words taxed her already strained system. She coughed painfully into her arm while Nick guided her into her room. The coughing spell was so violent, ripping at her tender lungs, she couldn’t even object as he tucked her into bed.

Sick as she was, Jordan wasn’t blind. Nick Rinaldi had been on her radar since he landed back in Compass Cove the previous fall. The guy was gorgeous, smart, and a gentleman to the core. But he’d settled back in with his grandparents almost six months ago, and other than a token hello, or a polite smile, he rarely spoke to her.

Still, with his lean frame, dark hair, and kind eyes, he checked a lot of boxes.

She thought she heard him mutter something about being stubborn, but her lack of breath didn’t allow a response. If anyone was stubborn, he was. The man of mystery was a well-known do-gooder, and obviously she was his next project. There was only one problem with that. She didn’t want his help. Needing people was a slippery slope, and Jordan had no intention of heading down that way again.

 Book Description:

Heartbeats had a pesky way of complicating things. They almost always came with the nasty side effect of humanity and finally... death. Since Thorne came into my life, I'd been plagued with both. Heartbeats and humanity. Both of these things were going to be the death of me. One way or another. And the death of everyone I knew and loved, a list growing longer with every beat of my newly repaired—and irritating—heart. That pesky humanity was almost as toxic as the most debilitating illness on this hunk of rock, killing more humans than any vampire could. Love. And there I was, attached to a slayer who I couldn't be undead without. Friends who I was becoming increasingly attached to. All things—people—he would take away from me. Then he'd take me too. But if it came to that, I'd yank out my beating heart and crush it in my hands before he could touch me. It was lost anyway. If he won, my eternity would come to an end. As it happened, so would the world. That only meant I couldn't lose.

 Excerpt:

I’ve gotten, over the months, very good at keeping everything in their box.
Work is work and friends are friends and fucking strangers in the bar is mostly harmless and my red phone stays home, during the first two and occasionally, when my nerves are tight or my temper is high—I’ll take the phone in public.
No one, not even Emilie or Taite know about my little part-time gig, and while I don’t think they’d care, exactly, I also didn’t want to tell them.
It was mine, a secret, and not necessarily something I was proud of—I wasn’t ashamed either, but I wanted it to be mine.
So when I step into the RCPD headquarters, I’m not RedQueen. I’m just Vivian Fitzpatrick, the perfectly put together coolly detached girl that River City expects.
“Viv,” the Chief shouts and I huff, but detour into his office, giving him the coy smile that still makes him flush.
I’ve been giving him the same smile since I was in high school and fooling around with his daughter, and he still flushes. It’s adorable, really.
“Miguel is working with our new officer, so I’m pulling Gomez off the front desk to ride with Taite.”
I smirk. “What did Gomez do to piss you off?”
He laughs.
“So you’re taking Chris?” I ask and he nods, giving me apologetic eyes.
“Sorry. Lisa will be in there with you.”
“No worries, Chief. Thanks for the heads up,” I say, grinning and he nods as I duck back out.
I get myself settled in, slipping my headset on and Emilie ducks into a grin at me.
“Have you met him yet?”
“The new guy?” I ask and she nods. “Not yet. You know people don’t like visiting my little hole in the wall.”
True enough. Taite and Emilie only come back here because they’re unreasonably attached to me.
“He’s yummy,” Emilie smirks, all dirty promise.
I arch an eyebrow. “Might I remind you that both Miguel and Cal would be unhappy to see your eye wandering.”
She flushes and I smile, pleased with myself.
“I’m looking for you, idiot,” she snaps, halfhearted.
“I don’t fuck where I work, darling. You and Taite have a lock on that particular market.”
She rolls her eyes and I shoo her away as my radio crackles to life.

Book Description:

It was just a typical Monday. Until the big boss asked me to make the pitch for a prospective new client. After two years on shaky ground at work because of my screw up, an opportunity to impress the senior partners was just what I needed. Or so I thought… Until I walked into the conference room and collided with the man I was supposed to pitch. My coffee spilled, my files tumbled to the ground, and I almost lost my balance. And that was the good part of my day. Because the gorgeous man crouched down and looking at me like he wanted to eat me alive, was none other than my ex, Gray Westbrook. A man who I’d only just begun to move on from. A man who my heart despised—yet my body obviously still had other ideas about. A man who was as charismatic and confident as he was sexy. Somehow, I managed to make it through my presentation ignoring his intense stare. Although it was impossible to ignore all the dirty things he whispered into my ear right after I was done. But there was no way I was giving him another chance, especially now that he was a client…was there?

Book Description:

A new sexy contemporary romance duet from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

Secrets swarm all around. My world is crumbling under the strain. I don’t know if we can survive this. My heart is in the Wright place. But is his?

The Wright One is the last book in the Wright Love Duet that began in The Wright Love. Find out if Sutton and David survive their world of secrets in the conclusion to the Wright Love duet!

My Review:

So something interesting happened to me during the reading of this book, something that has never happened in the 4 years that I have been blogging my book reviews.  I adored this book, until the epilogue.  What say you wench?  I know, I know, I can hardly believe it myself but in the short matter of an epilogue this went from a 5 star read for me to a 4 star and some may say that I am being too sensitive but the fact is two sentences from the epilogue stand out to me even now well over a week after reading and while I enjoyed this story from start to almost finish the fact is that the finish that colored my view is also the only things I can really truly focus on now when I think about this whole duet.

Let's start with what I loved:
I was actually quite nervous to pick up this second book after the cliff hanger, I was really worried that Sutton was going to take forever to get her act together and realize that maybe not only had David made mistakes but that she had been a bit prejudice against him from the beginning due to her feelings about the loss of Maverick, and honestly who can really blame her.  She has suffered a traumatic loss and is truly just now coming to terms with that that means for her future and her sons.  Thankfully it doesn't take her long to realize that perhaps she could have taken a moment to catch her breath and listened before pointing fingers and letting fear take hold of the words that she let fly.  I think it is not an uncommon sentiment that many readers find Sutton to be a tad frustrating through this duet but I think we all also are quick to remind ourselves that if we are lucky enough to have never been through her struggle than we must understand that grief takes many forms and goes though many transformations before the grieving are whole again.  She is also very young and dealing with what must seem like the entire world on her shoulders.

I loved David, will always love David.  He is the perfect man to pick up Sutton's pieces due to his own history of trials and loss.  He is patience and grace even when he has the entire Wright clan bearing down on him for a misdeed. At every turn he is gentle with Sutton and Jason's hearts all while fighting his own personal battles, ones that he thought he had won long ago.  I loved getting to know him better even as convoluted as his history is it leads to a better understanding of this quiet, gentle, graceful man.

The Wright's and the Calloway family.  First the Wright's...Y'all, I have a love/hate relationship with this family.  I never know if I should applaud them or berate them, haha.  They are either all up in your business or completely letting you flounder on your own until someone notices at the last minute that you are about to drown. They are so tight knit and yet sometimes I don't feel like they know each other at all.   Now, I get that I am seeing snapshots of the family as a whole and maybe I am missing out on times when they have been sitting with Sutton quietly, bringing her meals, caring for her.  What I see instead is a family that takes a backseat to Sutton until she is in their presence and then they try to coddle her.  Never having gone through what Sutton is going through I can't say if that is the right response to her grief or not but considering the fact that in a year Sutton never truly grieves the loss of her spouse I have to question their methods.  I love that in the end they always come together and hold each other up but I question the amount of times each of these siblings have had to learn to barely tread water or sink before being rescued.  Honestly it doesn't make me love them any less because as a whole they are an amazing family but it does make me want to shake them all at least a few times and ask them what they think their doing, ha.  The Calloway's, David's mother and sister.  Dude (David) you are so much better than me.  I think that I might have run and never looked back and forget the forgiveness, I am not sure I could put up with either of those women in my life.  I know they came and set things right but dang, they sure did cause a lot of pain and suffering before ever getting there.  Again, David is simply grace and patience.

My hopes:
My hopes and I think that K.A. Linde is totally setting us up for this is that we will get more stories from this group of people.  We have the two cousins, the two best friends of Sutton and now Katherine, David's sister.  That's at least three more books and I am anxiously awaiting them.  Yes even though the epilogue left a bitter taste in my mouth I want more!

So what set my teeth on edge, well I don't want to give away too much but I will say these two things.

1. You do not have to go to public school to be a social or a socialized child. There are ways to maybe getting your point across when you are talking about an extroverted child and wanting to give them the experience of a large class room setting without offending a fairly decent sized group of people.  Now for this one I will admit that it hits close to home as I am a homeschool mom and I take great umbrage with the fact that it is widely believed that homeschooled children are anti-social and unsocialized when that is simply not the case and one sentence in the epilogue, in my opinion, persists in continuing that false belief.

2.  A family does not have to have legal paperwork to be a "real family".  I real family is what ever you make it.  I am also a little saddened that this incident occurs because I think it takes away from the memory of Maverick.  A person shouldn't need 'paperwork' for everyone to know 'to whom you belong', they should know it because of the way you treat each other.  Now, here I have no first hand knowledge but I felt quite taken aback at the idea that that family wasn't 'real' or was some how incomplete because of a lack of legal documents and it broke my heart a tad.

I am no writer, so honestly I know nothing, but I feel like there must have been some better way to have handled that moment with out in a way backhanding two groups of people and as I said those two incidents simply just left a bitter taste and took this book that I had loved and had waited on for so long and tarnished it for me.  Take my feelings on that with a grain of salt, it is what it is and as I said I will be back for more because all in all I have loved this series from the very fist book and I know you will too!

Book Description:

One whiskey-saturated night turns into something far more in the second standalone installment of the bestselling Whiskey and Lies series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan.

Fox Collins likes his life just the way it is. His siblings are falling in love all around him, but he'd much rather focus on his next story than on a serious relationship. However, when his latest one-night stand returns to Whiskey-this time for good-he'll need to learn to trust his instincts to figure out if he can live without her in his life.
Former dancer Melody Waters is finally ready to settle down in her grandmother's small Pennsylvania hometown. Bad decisions and fateful nights have changed her path more than once, but now she's focused on one thing: opening her new own dance studio. But fate is a funny thing, and once again, she'll be forced to learn that actions have consequences and some repercussions can not only change your life forever, they can also come back to haunt you…one broken promise at a time.
Each book is a complete stand alone and can be read in any order.

Part Time Husband by Noelle Adams - Spotlight, Excerpt, Trailer, and Giveaway

Melissa Greyson asked Trevor Bentley to be her husband for a year. Can she avoid giving him her heart or will this marriage of convenience lead to more?

Contemporary Romance fans will love this sexy new release from New York Times Bestselling Author Noelle Adams!

Book Description:

On a Wednesday afternoon, I ask Trevor Bentley to marry me. He might be the most arrogant, obnoxious man I know, but I need him to be my husband for a year.

There are reasons.

He's not going to be a real husband. Just part-time. Yes, I have to live with him. And, okay, I also have to share his bed. And, sure, he's the sexiest and most exciting thing to ever happen to my controlled, organized life.

But still... It's only a part-time marriage. I'm not going to give him my heart. I know what I'm doing, and I'm too smart to fall for my husband.

I hope.

The flash of annoyance I feel at his smug expression is enough to get me going again. I say in my most poised voice, “I have a proposition for you.”

No sense in wasting time in small talk. That’s not my way or Trevor’s.

He leans back in his chair, his eyes lingering on my face. Instead of looking like he’s descending from a pedestal, now he looks more like he’s solving a riddle. “A proposition?”

“Yes. A good one.”

“I realize Pop’s needs help with advertising, if those tacky commercials you’ve been running are any indication, but you have to know I’m no longer interested in working for you.”

My fingers tighten around the portfolio I’ve just picked up again, but I manage not to display my resentment on my face.

Tacky commercials.

He just said it outright to my face.

Yes, I happen to agree with his assessment, but still… Who does that?

“I’m not offering you a job with Pop’s,” I say, my voice almost prim in its coolness. “I actually have a favor to ask you, and so I’ve got something to offer you in return. Something you’ll want.”

His lips part just slightly, and I notice because my eyes keep slipping down to his lips.

So kill me. He’s got the sexiest mouth I’ve ever seen.

“What do I want?” he asks after a moment’s pause.

This part is easy. I slide a contract out of my portfolio and hand the stack of papers to him. He reaches to take it and then scans the top sheet with a bullet-point summary of the contract.

Basically, it’s an agreement for his company to develop a regional advertising campaign for Pop’s for a very large amount of money. I had to pull from other budget lines to find the financing for it, but I know any campaign Trevor puts together will at least double the money expended. He’s that good.

Both his eyebrows go up as he reads.

Very slowly his eyes (like dark chocolate) rise again to my face. “You must need a very big favor.”

“I do.”

While I don’t know the ins and outs of Trevor’s contracts with other companies, I have a general sense of the level he’s working at. He’s good enough that he could have made a success of it in New York or LA, but for some reason five years ago he moved back to Charleston, where he was raised. Most of the jobs his agency handles are local or statewide. The one I’m offering him has to be bigger than anything else he’s done yet.

He looks back down at the top sheet. “This is for real?”

“Yes, it’s for real.”

“Pop will never go for this. He despises me.” It’s not at all surprising that Trevor knows Pop’s opinion of him. Everyone knows.

“Yes, he does. But advertising got moved last year, and now it’s under me. I make the decisions. This is real. I’m willing to sign that contract right now.”

“But it’s not just because I’m so good.”

“No. It’s not because you’re so good. We need some better advertising, but we’re not desperate. I’m going to have to put up with a lot a grief from my in-house folks and from Pop to make this deal with you, so I need something in return.”

“A favor?”

“Yes. A favor.”

I’ve been killing it so far—sounding cool and professional and exactly on his level. I’ve even managed to keep my expression perfect and not blush the way I sometimes do when I’m emotionally discomposed.

But now the moment has arrived, and the truth is I’m nervous.

More than nervous. Scared as hell.

I’m about to ask this arrogant man to marry me.

Trevor waits a beat. “Are you planning to tell me what the favor is?”

It’s time. I have to just say it. “I need you to marry me for a year.”
