My Review:

So something interesting happened to me during the reading of this book, something that has never happened in the 4 years that I have been blogging my book reviews.  I adored this book, until the epilogue.  What say you wench?  I know, I know, I can hardly believe it myself but in the short matter of an epilogue this went from a 5 star read for me to a 4 star and some may say that I am being too sensitive but the fact is two sentences from the epilogue stand out to me even now well over a week after reading and while I enjoyed this story from start to almost finish the fact is that the finish that colored my view is also the only things I can really truly focus on now when I think about this whole duet.  

Let's start with what I loved:

I was actually quite nervous to pick up this second book after the cliff hanger, I was really worried that Sutton was going to take forever to get her act together and realize that maybe not only had David made mistakes but that she had been a bit prejudice against him from the beginning due to her feelings about the loss of Maverick, and honestly who can really blame her.  She has suffered a traumatic loss and is truly just now coming to terms with that that means for her future and her sons.  Thankfully it doesn't take her long to realize that perhaps she could have taken a moment to catch her breath and listened before pointing fingers and letting fear take hold of the words that she let fly.  I think it is not an uncommon sentiment that many readers find Sutton to be a tad frustrating through this duet but I think we all also are quick to remind ourselves that if we are lucky enough to have never been through her struggle than we must understand that grief takes many forms and goes though many transformations before the grieving are whole again.  She is also very young and dealing with what must seem like the entire world on her shoulders.  

I loved David, will always love David.  He is the perfect man to pick up Sutton's pieces due to his own history of trials and loss.  He is patience and grace even when he has the entire Wright clan bearing down on him for a misdeed. At every turn he is gentle with Sutton and Jason's hearts all while fighting his own personal battles, ones that he thought he had won long ago.  I loved getting to know him better even as convoluted as his history is it leads to a better understanding of this quiet, gentle, graceful man.  

The Wright's and the Calloway family.  First the Wright's...Y'all, I have a love/hate relationship with this family.  I never know if I should applaud them or berate them, haha.  They are either all up in your business or completely letting you flounder on your own until someone notices at the last minute that you are about to drown. They are so tight knit and yet sometimes I don't feel like they know each other at all.   Now, I get that I am seeing snapshots of the family as a whole and maybe I am missing out on times when they have been sitting with Sutton quietly, bringing her meals, caring for her.  What I see instead is a family that takes a backseat to Sutton until she is in their presence and then they try to coddle her.  Never having gone through what Sutton is going through I can't say if that is the right response to her grief or not but considering the fact that in a year Sutton never truly grieves the loss of her spouse I have to question their methods.  I love that in the end they always come together and hold each other up but I question the amount of times each of these siblings have had to learn to barely tread water or sink before being rescued.  Honestly it doesn't make me love them any less because as a whole they are an amazing family but it does make me want to shake them all at least a few times and ask them what they think their doing, ha.  The Calloway's, David's mother and sister.  Dude (David) you are so much better than me.  I think that I might have run and never looked back and forget the forgiveness, I am not sure I could put up with either of those women in my life.  I know they came and set things right but dang, they sure did cause a lot of pain and suffering before ever getting there.  Again, David is simply grace and patience.  

My hopes:  

My hopes and I think that K.A. Linde is totally setting us up for this is that we will get more stories from this group of people.  We have the two cousins, the two best friends of Sutton and now Katherine, David's sister.  That's at least three more books and I am anxiously awaiting them.  Yes even though the epilogue left a bitter taste in my mouth I want more!  

So what set my teeth on edge, well I don't want to give away too much but I will say these two things.  

1. You do not have to go to public school to be a social or a socialized child. There are ways to maybe getting your point across when you are talking about an extroverted child and wanting to give them the experience of a large class room setting without offending a fairly decent sized group of people.  Now for this one I will admit that it hits close to home as I am a homeschool mom and I take great umbrage with the fact that it is widely believed that homeschooled children are anti-social and unsocialized when that is simply not the case and one sentence in the epilogue, in my opinion, persists in continuing that false belief. 

2.  A family does not have to have legal paperwork to be a "real family".  I real family is what ever you make it.  I am also a little saddened that this incident occurs because I think it takes away from the memory of Maverick.  A person shouldn't need 'paperwork' for everyone to know 'to whom you belong', they should know it because of the way you treat each other.  Now, here I have no first hand knowledge but I felt quite taken aback at the idea that that family wasn't 'real' or was some how incomplete because of a lack of legal documents and it broke my heart a tad. 

 I am no writer, so honestly I know nothing, but I feel like there must have been some better way to have handled that moment with out in a way backhanding two groups of people and as I said those two incidents simply just left a bitter taste and took this book that I had loved and had waited on for so long and tarnished it for me.  Take my feelings on that with a grain of salt, it is what it is and as I said I will be back for more because all in all I have loved this series from the very fist book and I know you will too!

My Review:

I was so excited to get my hands on this book, I have been a fan of Morgan's from the beginning of the series.  I love that she is this strong, independent, hard working, caring heroine.  A take no crap while still being kind and gracious kind of character and gah, haven't we all been mooning over Patrick since day one as well?

Morgan and Patrick are a friends to lovers romance, though I can say with certainty that friends is never what Morgan wanted their relationship classified as.  It was a secret only to Patrick how Morgan felt about him and the only thing that must have kept him from seeing her as more than his best friend's little sister is sheer will power and fear of ruining relationships.  Once those two get together it is clear that friendship is never what either wanted.

I loved their relationship.  I loved the strength of Morgan, I loved the stoicness of Patrick.  I loved that he was willing to stand behind or beside her, however she needed him, that he never placed himself in front of her.  I love that he jut wanted her to be her, to do what she loves and to find a way to make space for him.  That he didn't want to take everything away from her so she could be with him, but that he wanted to be an do everything with her.  His main goal to be her support as she navigated this typically 'man's world'.

I will say hat I was completely put off by Jensen in this book.  Even at the end when he 'saw the light' I kind of felt like it was a little too late.  He brushed Morgan's concerns off without a thought and I was really turned off by that.  If it hadn't been for the fact that I have already read his book, this one may have kept me from ever wanting to know more about him.  I expected better of the 'head' of the family, to me he really showed an ugly side.  I don't know, maybe it is the stress he is going thought opening his own business, leaving his past in the hands of someone else and he is struggling to let go, but I can't get past how easy it was for him to lay blame at Morgan's feet, or simply disregard her concerns and honestly that is one of the main reasons this was a 4 start and not a 5 star for me.

On a better note, I loved seeing the glimpses Sutton and David, I am so anxious to get my hands on their story and also a bit terrified that it's going to make me bawl like a baby.  I won't go into that too much incase you haven't read the previous books, because while this is considered a stand-alone and can be read that way it is one of those stand-alone within a series books and at least or Sutton's story (which is coming next) there are significant developments that occur in previous books.

The Wright Secret is another great read in this 'series', the romance is as always lovely and totally swoon-worthy.  Our patient Patrick has a bit of a dominate streak which is *waggle eyebrows*.  The drama is just right with out a ton of angst thrown in.  There is some drama that I felt didn't get the proper follow through, like what the heck happened at Patrick's job...what happened with Bailey.  I needed some really goo closure there and that didn't happen.  I do love how the Wright family drama wrapped up and the possibilities that it puts on the table for future books, though I am totally still mad at Jensen and may never get over his arseholery.

If you are looking for a fantastic Contemporary Romance series, you need to get your hands on this one.  Like I said above you can read these books as standalones but I highly suggest reading them in order as they do in some way build on each other, it's not significant but I think enough that you will notice a difference.  In the end you will want to go back and learn all about this family from the beginning so why not start there anyway, ha.

My Review:

If you have read any of the other books in the Wright series you have been waiting for this book, you have also known that this book would be an emotional one that would take it's toll on your wine or tea socks and your tissue boxes.  I have to say even though I was prepared I was still not prepared enough.  The emotions that come out of this book are palatable, they're ugly, they're hard.  Yes, The Wright Mistake has all the laughter and romance you expect from this series, but it has some truly difficult moments too and not just for our hero who is more lost little boy than man, (emotionally anyway) for a good part of this story, but for the entire Wright clan.

The Wright Mistake is an almost second chance romance.  It is but the couple had only been together six weeks previously and while they're relationship was explosive during that time to call it a true second chance romance doesn't seem quite right.  Their earlier time together was based on lust and mutual attraction, when these two comeback together it's a story of discovery and healing.  Julia absolutely got her heart broken the first time around but that was based more on the idea of the relationship, on what was hoped for instead of what was really there so in that sense I just want to shout out RE-DO and almost forget that they had that first six weeks.  

I really enjoyed these two characters individually and together.  I loved Julia's spirit and tenacity.  I adored Austin for his soul. A soul that is broken and abused but that shines through with love for his family even while he tries to dim it through his addiction.  Austin is a functioning alcoholic who is clearly depressed and lost.  He craves love and has a need to punish himself for things the world that he can't control.  It was clear to me that through every thing men his denial he is crying out for someone to pick him up and make him okay.  I have been quite sad while we waited to get to his book watching his family, knowing they saw his problems and chose to essentially ignore them.  While I love that he ultimately worked things out on his own, and that they stood with him ( I always knew they would) I wish they had been more forceful in trying to get him to that point sooner.  Perhaps that is my naivety however because as we all know the addict has to want to help themselves if anything is going to be accomplished successfully.  

Together Julia and Austin are fire and ice.  They burn of the pages, but until they can come together in honesty and understanding their moments of scorching heat are quickly doused with the cold reality of mistrust and secrets.  

I will say that this one, The Wright Mistake, is my favorite so far in this series and I know that leaves you scratching your head at my 4 star rating.  There is a reason for that and one I can't get into deeply due to spoilers.  I will say that something occurs in this book that I am unsure was necessary.  Now that's easy for me to say as the reader, I get that.  As the author this was the direction K.A. Linde's characters took her, this is what they spoke, but it saddened me, (in an already very sad book) even seeing it coming from a mile away when a new introduction was made. There was only one thing that could happen but I wish it hadn't.  I wish the characters could have been happy where they were, that we could have been happy.  I......ugh, I have so much to say about this one thing that sort of drowns out everything else for me in the story and yet I can't really say any of it.  So what I will say is go read this book then come back here and talk to me.  Let me know what you think, I see this as a great future debate and there will be a lot of conflicting emotions on that particular portion of the story.  \

I loved Austin and Julia's story.  It will an emotional and thought provoking journey.  We know the Wright's aren't perfect but Austin's story will open our eyes to exactly how flawed and how, human this family really is.  Sure they are all hot, sexy, rich, fabulous book boyfriends and girlfriends but they are just 'humans' looking for the same thing every human wants, love, family, friendship.  It's wonderful to watch them get it while overcoming histories, challenges, and heartaches.  

I would not call this book a stand-alone even though I don't feel like you would be lost if this is the first one you pick up in the series.  I say it isn't a stand-alone because I think you need to see Austin for who he is fully and you can only get that by seeing him in his brother's stories.  I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series to date and if you are a contemporary romance fan this series should be at the top of your TBR pile.  You will not regret shoving some others down a bit lower to make room for the Wright series!
