Book Description:

Brotherhood. Club. Family.
They live and ride by their own rules.
These are the Raven Riders...

Maverick Rylan won’t apologize for who he is—the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club Vice-President, a sought-after custom bike builder, and a man dedicated to protecting those he loves. So when he learns that the only woman who has ever held his heart is in trouble, he’ll move heaven and earth to save her.

Alexa Harmon thought she had it all—the security of a good job, a beautiful home, and a powerful, charming fiancé who offered the life she never had growing up. But when her dream quickly turns into a nightmare, Alexa realizes she’s fallen for a façade she can’t escape—until sexy, dangerous Maverick offers her a way out.

Forced together to keep Alexa safe, their powerful attraction reignites and Maverick determines to do whatever it takes to earn a second chance—one Alexa is tempted to give. But her ex-fiancé isn’t going to let her go without a fight, one that will threaten everything they both hold dear.

My Review:

Laura Kaye always gives me a book I didn't even know I needed.  I fell in love with her through her Hard Ink series and I just fall deeper and deeper with each Raven Riders book.  There is just something about the way she writes her heroes that completely melts readers hearts.  These guys are heroes in the truest sense.  They're alphas out to protect the vulnerable, in fact this is the basis on which the Raven Riders live.  They protect those who are unable to protect themselves and they do it with so much heart and passion that they simply make the reader want to be a better person.

Maverick's world is the Raven Riders M.C.  He not only dedicated himself to his brothers, their way of life, their mission but after loosing the one woman he had ever loved because of the MC he sank deeper into his role as V.P.  Five years after losing the love of his life, Alexa returned bruised and broken.  Maverick's instincts scream out to protect her but its hard to protect someone who doesn't think they need it....that is until they do.

Alexa Harmon left Maverick and the Raven Riders M.C. after the death of her brother from a motorcycle accident.  Alexa can't stay and watch the other man in her life that she loves suffer the same fate and he since he can't/won't walk away from his brothers she has to walk away from him.  For 5 years Alexa has been building a life that will give her everything she thinks she wants, but it turns out that the grass really isn't greener on the other side, that money, 'normalcy', consistency...none of those things equal safety or in the end love.

As always the story that Laura weaves pulled me right in.  There is something extra special about the Raven Riders, much like the men of Hard Ink and as soon as you start reading you find yourself immersed into their world.  She 'paints' such a vivid picture it feels like you are right there watching it all play out in front of your eyes.  I loved Maverick and I loved him with Alexa.  He's a rough and tumble guy with a heart and soul of gold.  His love for his brothers, his mother, Alexa it is all right there laid out for everyone to see.  He may be a bad arse but that doesn't keep him from showing his soft side to those he loves.  My only challenge and what kept this from being a 5 star read for me was Alexa.  As much as I wanted to love her I just never truly clicked with her.  I understand the reason she left Maverick, I understand her hesitation to leave Grant her fiancé, what I didn't get was her solid belief that she had to keep working for him, or her apparently easy ability to jump from Maverick to Grant then right back to Maverick with out batting an eye lash.  Laura is always very careful about making sure her heroines (who are always kick butt women, even when they have been used and abused, figuratively and literally) have their time.  They are always given the respect that they deserve, they are always given the time that they need and while Alexa was afford that through Maverick I was completely taken aback by her rush to jump back into an intimate relationship or any romantic relationship with Mav so suddenly.

Other than that throwing me a bit off this was another fantastic read for me from Laura Kaye.  I loved getting to catch up with all the other characters, even a quick hello from the Hard Ink team.  There are a few things in the book that are hard to read, the abuse in Alexa's relationship, the injury of some beloved characters, the 'illness' of Alexa's mother...there are several things that will have you wiping away tears but they all build a beautiful story of redemption, hope, and love.  If you are a Laura Kaye fan this is a must read.  If you are new to Laura, don't start here but definitely start.  I would suggest going all the way back to Hard Ink if you can but if not start with the crossover novella Hard as Steel and then get ready to have a new group of men and women etched on your heart.

Book Description:

Brotherhood. Club. Family.
They live and ride by their own rules.
These are the Raven Riders…

Raven Riders Motorcycle Club President Dare Kenyon rides hard and values loyalty above all else. He’ll do anything to protect the brotherhood of bikers—the only family he’s got—as well as those who can’t defend themselves. So when mistrustful Haven Randall lands on the club’s doorstep scared that she’s being hunted, Dare takes her in, swears to keep her safe, and pushes to learn the secrets overshadowing her pretty smile.

Haven fled from years of abuse at the hands of her criminal father and is suspicious of any man’s promises, including those of the darkly sexy and overwhelmingly intense Ravens’ leader. But as the powerful attraction between them flares to life, Dare pushes her boundaries and tempts her to want things she never thought she could.

The past never dies without a fight, but Dare Kenyon’s never backed down before…

My Review:

If you know me at all you know that I love myself a biker book.  I love the nitty gritty of it all, the passion for their lives and their relationships, for their club and 'brothers', I love the description of the MC flying down the road, imagining the sound of all the motorcycles and the wind in my face.....what I love most about the Raven Riders though is that they aren't the typical dark club, they aren't really 1%ers...they are a group with a mission to protect those that can't protect themselves.  They are all the things described above, a lot of hell with a large dash of heart and heaven thrown in.

Her two main characters Dare and Haven will have you falling in love.  Haven is on the run from her past, an abusive relationship with her father, a man who isn't ready to let her 'go' and is now tracking her.  She ends up in the best place she can, the Raven Riders compound and with their mission to protect the 'innocent' she finds herself safe for the first time in her life, unfortunately it can never be quite that easy.  Dare is Raven Riders President and he takes their role seriously, the appearance of Heaven at his club peeks his interest and Haven makes him want something that he hasn't wanted since losing his mother and brother, to let down his walls and let someone in.

I loved the relationship between these two.  It's full of passion and struggle.  Watching them fight their growing attractions because neither feels good enough for the other can be sad at times, but we all know Laura Kaye isn't going to leave us crying in our beers and she gives up a beautiful story with our craved for HEA.  Watching this couple grow, Dare coming to know that he can be more than the President of the Club, that he still has a heart to give, watching Haven become confident in who she is on her own and grow into a strong woman, is inspiring.

The secondary characters will have you craving more, I can't wait for each book and I am hoping it will be a nice long series similar to Hard Ink.   The storyline will have you turning ALL the pages in one sitting because you can't put the book down! I love that our Hard Ink family make an appearance, it was so hard (no pun intended) to leave the Hard Ink crew behind.  I really grew to love them and their stories.  I was so happy that they made an appearance and I don't think this is even the last time we will see them, they may not make huge role appearances but I am hopeful they are there and we get peeks into their lives through out the entire series.  The Raven Riders have a similar vibe to her Hard Ink men only more raw. If you liked Hard Ink you will love these guys but don't worry that you are getting more of the same these guys are different 'beasts'! Their stories are just as touching though...if not perhaps a little more.

Excerpt:

“So much better out here,” Haven said, the night air cool against the tingling warmth of her skin. Although she was pretty sure that not all of the heat burning through her insides was from the alcohol—her unusual flirtatiousness and closeness to Dare over the past half hour had made her desperate with a heat that had nothing to do with her drinking game.

She walked to the railing and leaned against it, chuckling a little at herself for needing the support it offered. She felt so damn free, and it was a heady, exhilarating thing.

“What’s funny?” Dare asked, settling a hip against the railing right beside her. Arms crossed, jaw ticking with tension, dark eyes blazing, he was staring at her like he wanted to reprimand her or devour her. Oddly, neither alarmed her the way she would’ve expected it to.

Haven shook her head, leaning it back and letting her gaze float over the night sky. Blurry points of light swam in the moonlit heavens. It was beautiful and peaceful despite the pounding bass beat of music thumping from inside the clubhouse. “Not funny, just good. Happy, you know? Being able to do something a little . . . scary, but knowing I’d be safe doing it.” When Dare’s gaze narrowed, she shrugged. “I don’t know.”

A long moment passed before Dare finally spoke. “You are safe here, Haven. Never doubt it.”

Peering up at him, she nodded, all kinds of words sitting on the tip of her tongue, challenging her to let them fly. “It’s weird feeling safe—or at least safer—after a lifetime of not. It makes me want to try things I could never let myself try before. It makes me . . .” She shook her head and dipped her chin.

Dare stepped closer, his thighs coming up against her hip. He lifted her chin and made her look at him. The contact combined with the command in the gesture lanced white-hot desire through her veins. “Makes you what?”

“Want to feel alive,” she whispered, her heart suddenly racing in her chest.

Dare’s jaw ticked again as his gaze swept over her face. She didn’t think she was imagining the raw emotion pouring off of him and wrapping around her, but she wasn’t sure if she was reading that emotion right or projecting her own desire onto him.

“Do you feel alive, Dare?” she asked, the alcohol flowing through her and the night spinning around her like she was walking through a dream.

“Jesus,” he bit out.

The rough desperation in his voice made her wet between her legs. “Just once,” she whispered, not sure what she was asking him for.

But he seemed to know. Because his hand was suddenly tangled in her hair and his mouth was suddenly on hers, claiming, probing, tasting.

Haven moaned and parted her lips, inviting him deeper.

Dare jerked back from her, his fingers rubbing roughly over his lips. “Fuck, I’m sorry.”

On instinct, Haven’s body pursued his, pinning his back to the railing. “Please don’t stop,” she said as her hands gripped his shoulders. She had the strongest urge to climb him, to wrap her legs around him, to grind against the hard bulge pressing electrically against her belly.

“Please,” she whispered, tilting her mouth toward his. “I liked it.”

Dare’s hand cupped the back of her head. “You’re killing me.”

“Dare,” she said, her body restless against his.

In a move that sent the world spinning, he flipped them around so that she was the one pinned against the railing. He pushed his legs between hers and leaned down over her, forcing her to arch her back, to yield, to open to him. “Tell me what you want from me. Say the words,” he said, his eyes absolutely on fire.

Her heart was a runaway train in her chest, frantic and picking up speed. The thought of giving voice to her desires was terrifying and thrilling and dizzying all at once.

“I want your mouth,” she said. The words sounded odder out loud than they had in her head, but they were more accurate than asking him to kiss her—because her mouth wasn’t the only place she wanted his.

“Jesus,” he rasped again, his mouth coming down on hers once more.

The whimper she released was part relief, part anticipation. It had been so long since she’d kissed someone that she felt a little uncertain, but Dare’s intensity barely allowed her the capacity to worry about it. He was like a dark storm bearing down on her, relentless, magnetic, all-consuming.

Rough callouses from his hands scratched against her cheeks as he guided her. Hard breaths spilled over her lips, and the wet slide of his tongue tasted like whiskey and desire and man. Her hands found the soft length of his hair, and her breasts pushed against the hard plane of his chest.

Then her lips were freed as his mouth slid over her skin—exploring her cheek, her jaw, her ear, her neck. He hiked her up to sit on the wide railing, the move surprising a gasp out of her, especially as he crowded the space between her legs, pushing himself closer, bringing his erection against the place between her legs craving friction, hardness, so much more of him. Maybe even all of him.

One strong arm wrapped around her back and held her steady, while the other hand stroked her hair, her face, her breast. The soft groans and breathy grunts spilling out of him were delicious and thrilling, and bolstered her confidence that she wasn’t the only one losing herself in this moment, in these touches. She almost couldn’t believe this was happening, and part of her was certain she must be dreaming. Because Haven Randall didn’t have beautiful things in her life. At least, never before.

Hard To Serve - Tour Teaser 2

My Review:

Well now Laura Kaye, I didn't know you had that in you but I am so very glad the you do!
This was EVERYTHING I wanted it to be and an amazing introduction to a new series that I am already in love with and we got to check in with our favorite family, the Hard Ink family!

Laura......GAH! I love you!

We thought we knew Kyler Vance from the Hard Ink series but we didn't know him at all it seems. Oh we knew he was an upstanding guy, we knew he takes care of business, we knew he would be there for those he calls family and friends, but we didn't know Kyler at all really. We didn't know his deepest secrets and desires...until now and woah I am totally down with KNOWING Kyler Vance.

Mia has struggled to find that one place where she can be herself, the place that allows her to show a side that she has to keep hidden (especially from her father, the Police Commissioner), a place that gives her the relief she so desperately craves in a world where she has to be at the top of her game and always proper. The one thing she craves most is finding a place and a person who will sully her proper exterior at night, allow her to be the dominating female she is during the day, someone who is sweet enough to care for her but dominating enough to give her what she needs.

I loved getting to know both of these characters (Kyler on a entirely new level) and also the other Masters that we will be seeing in later books...Helloooooo Master Quinton it sure will be good to see you again in the future. With Hard to Serve Laura did an amazing job of not only giving us a romance between two wonderful characters, but of giving us a new 'world' to be excited about. I can promise you that when you finish this book you will be so primed *snicker* for the Blasphemy Series to truly start. It is going to be a hard *snicker* wait, but go ahead and one click Hard to Submit now because you are so going to want it ASAP .

I loved that we didn't just get sex scene after sex scene which is a sadly common occurrence in BDSM novels, especially novellas. Laura gives us so much more in this small book. She opens up Kyler's and Mia's hearts to us, we get to see them not only interacting inside the club with each other (HOLY HOTNESS) but interacting with the other Masters (there are 12, 12!!! That doesn't mean 12 books but still.....12!), we see them in their daily lives at work and with their friends and family. It amazed me how smooth Laura made this book, how in depth we got a look into the world and the characters. It's a novella and yet it felt like a full length novel...although I would not have complained at all if it had been longer.

This is just a fantastic read especially if you are a contemporary romance, erotica, or BDSM (don't let that scare you away you'll be missing out on a lovely book) fan. Any fan of Laura Kaye, Tessa Bailey, Sylvia Day, or Lauren Blakely will love this book and this series. Get your one click finger ready and get after this book.... it is a to not be missed!

~HAPPY READING ~

Hard To Serve - Tour Teaser 1

HARD TO SERVE EXCERPT – A dark mood:

So many readers asked for more stories in my bestselling Hard Ink series, and I’m so excited to be able to give you just that in my new, super sexy HARD TO SERVE! HARD TO SERVE is an edgy stand-alone love story about a Baltimore police detective whose red-hot BDSM relationship with a new submissive seems like the perfect distraction from a trumped-up investigation against him until he learns that the woman is his boss’s daughter. Talk about sparks flying! I had so much fun writing this book, and I can’t wait for everyone to read it! And if you enjoy it, you might like to check out the whole Hard Ink series, now complete! Happy reading!

Kyler had tried to stay away from Mia. When he’d seen her across the club, he’d walked away and stayed away. Despite the fact that her dress made him want to unwrap her, that the updo of her lovely brown hair bared that beautiful throat, that his body was making demands of him that his brain didn’t want to answer.

And then she’d made it worse. First, by walking away from the Dom who was clearly interested in her. Second, by waiting at the bar—for him—Kyler had no doubt that’s what she’d been doing. And third by not only giving up on Kyler, but finding a possible replacement in Master Quinton.

And when Quinton had taken her hand—had touched what Kyler’s body screamed was his—Kyler hadn’t been able to stay away anymore.

And now, here they were. Kyler in a dark mood. And Mia seemingly all the more turned on for it. It was almost like she knew what he needed her to be, or do, to ease him. And that felt like a really fucking dangerous thing.

That danger didn’t have him walking out of the room though, did it?

No, instead, he was tying her to the cot-style bed in the basement-themed room. She was kneeling with her legs spread wide, which allowed Kyler to secure her hands and ankles behind her using rope tied to the iron. She could only lean so far forward before the rope would catch her. He tied another rope around her waist, with loops around each of her upper thighs, and attached that one to the almost equally high footboard—this rope would not only keep her from leaning back, but it would keep her from being able to sag down onto her calves. The two sets of ropes largely immobilized her so that she had to take whatever he did. After he arranged everything else he needed, he turned to her.

“What are your safewords?” he asked. She gave him the right answers. “And if you’re gagged?”

Mia shook her head three times while humming, “Mmm, mmm, mmm.”

“Very good, Mia. Are there any words or names you don’t like to be called while role-playing?”

“No, Sir,” she said, her voice so aroused that he could’ve thrown her down and skipped all the build up.

But she deserved better than that. He nailed her with a long look, giving her—and himself—one last chance. But they were doing this. “Scene.” Grabbing the medical scissors and a strap, he approached her, his persona shifting to fit the dark role he had in mind. “Well, what do we have here?
