Book Description:

Four men, irrevocably bound together by their horrifying past…

Trouble and his brothers escaped from Malus, Texas as kids. In the dead of night, they left behind a Hell so ominous, it made National news.

When they returned as adults, it was to seek revenge and justice. Malus is theirs now. They own it, they rule it, and they protect it. By any means necessary.

Trouble carries demons inside him. The need for blood and vindication runs deep in his veins, and nothing will stop the darkness within him from shining its evil eyes.

When Remi arrives, pregnant and in need of help, she has no idea she’s come to the one place she should have stayed far away from. Something dark surrounds the town. A malevolence she has no hope of surviving.

Will Trouble drag Remi into the dark pits of Hell? Or will she be the ultimate downfall of the devil himself?

My Review:

So while I knew when I went into this book that it was a dark romance and I was prepared, I will say I don't think anyone could ever be prepared enough for this kind of darkness.  That said, I loved this book.  It was an incredibly emotionally hard book to read at points and I want to just rage at the world when I read some of what happens, but it all ties together beautifully and makes this book un-put-downlable. There truly is no preparation for some of what you are going to read so you just have to go in and stick with it.  I will make the caveat in case it is needed that if you have triggers this book may be too much to tae on.  I am not always a fan of trigger warnings because I fear it will scare off readers that would otherwise have no challenges with reading a book but in this case things can be pretty graphic and harsh so please, you know yourself and you know what you can handle go in with caution if needed.  I don't want to go into what exactly the triggers are publicly, just because I think it might take away from the true darkness of the book, but feel free to contact me if you need more information and I will gladly privately provide that so you can make an informed decision on if this book is for you or not.

All that said, y'all I loved this book and all it's tragedy and unspeakable acts.  You all know (if you have followed my reviews for any length of time) how I feel about revenge and redemption.  You know that I am all for characters getting what they deserve and I am happy to say that these Brothers from Malus are ready to deal it out.  I will mention that I got some total The Lottery by Shirley Jackson vibes (not right up, but an underlying feeling when it comes to the way the town is run) and I am down for that.

Sidenote: If you like dark stories and have never read The Lottery, it should be on your must read list.

I was a little hesitant about our Heroine being pregnant for what ever reason I always get a little bugged out by the already pregnant by someone else when the Heroine meets the Hero (I think it's that idea of romantic perfection that is tarnished idea) but it absolutely works for this story and plays a major role in the Hero's past and future.  The baby is exactly what the hero needs so he can truly see that there is a future ahead of him and having him love a child not of his own creation the way he does just makes you fall more in love with him.  These are heroes that do bad things but are not bad people.  These are heroes you will love from the beginning because their history makes what they do understandable and to be honest if it were a true situation I would say desirable.  Maybe that makes my soul a little dark but I am A-Okay with that.

I adored the romance between Remi and Trouble.  I didn't even mind the back and forth because I know exactly where the drama between them stems from and I understand the reasoning behind it.  This is a town of untrusting people that Remi rolls into, and for very good reason and her past is nothing to sneeze at either.  I kinda missed the therapy point, the idea that they have gone though something so traumatic and the steps it took to get back to a point where relationships are okay.  I missed wanting to know if Trouble's little 'dark issue' clears up when he finally falls in love or does he still fight said issue to this day.  Honestly though in the scheme of things that's me knit-picking and doesn't give or take away from the entirety of the story, maybe it's jus the wanting more of these characters.

I am incredibly curious about all the brothers, particularly Justice and Emo...I mean, how is Justices story going to play out 'cause that's going to be interesting and Emo, gah...my heart just breaks thinking of him.  He's so unbelievably damaged and needs love the most..meaning we will get his book last, hahaha.

Alex Grayson just became a one-click author for me with this book. She is going to shock you and make you tear up, but every moment is so well thought out and written that even the pain you feel is worth the joy that comes out of it in the end.  These brothers are broken, they are fighting to take back what was taking from them but it isn't going to be easy and it definitely not going to be pretty but considering they survived hell to get where they are they deserve every piece of joy and love they can get.  I'll be over here impatiently waiting for book two.

~ Happy Reading ~
