Book Description:

The move to the remote town of Quarry Hill, Pennsylvania was supposed to help Griffin McGuire start over and forget the two people who betrayed him. As a paramedic at the local hospital, he would still have to interact with people, but the rest of the time he could hole himself away in the secluded cabin he was renting. It was perfect. For the first time in over a year, he felt like he could finally breathe. That was until he met her. A woman who doesn’t know her own name or why she was covered in blood and standing in the middle of the road when he found her. Griffin knows he should contact the police, but something is preventing him from going to the authorities. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that he was correct in trusting his instincts. Every time she falls asleep, she dreams and another memory is unlocked. Memories that are horrific and make him want to protect and hide her from the world.

My Review:

As seems to be a norm for me lately I am having a little trouble finding the words to appropriately review a book.  Did I like this one, yes!  Did it take me a little while to get through because it didn't always keep my attention, sadly yes.  Did I love the hero...eh, maybe.  Did I love the heroine, yes! Do I want more of this world, I think so.

First let me say that I really loved this cover and title, the title is really what drew me in to begin with, with out even knowing what the book was about I knew that I wanted to give it a try. When I read the synopsis I knew I had to read it.  I will say that in essence I love the overall story.  The idea that this broken man and beaten but not broken woman come together through a strange set of circumstances is a win from me.  I loved this idea of her having no memories except random flashes that are both confusing and enlightening.  I loved that through all of it 'Clare's' strength never really falters, that in the end whether she knows who she is or not she stays true to the person she was always meant to be.

Griffin is a hard character for me.  I liked him, but I did tire of his hot and cold attitude with Clare, specifically with her being a virgin in the book and his treatment of her when he can't figure out that all women are not like his ex.  I did appreciate that at one point he admits his failings and lets her in, but he only does that when his back is against the wall and he really has no other choice.  I also hate that he really doesn't get the closure that he truly deserved.  Having just that brief look at the outcome of his situation left me simply wanting more.  I want to know more about how the people who perpetrated the crime against him are doing now that they are sitting in jail, I want to know why one of them did what they did.  I understand greed was a factor for one of them but it can't be the only factor for the other.  And yes, I know I am vague-blogging, but I don't want to give anything away, especially the relationship Griffin has with the people who turned him from a fun loving guy to a guy who broods, doesn't trust (women especially) and is trying to hide away from the world.  I enjoyed his relationship with Trent (his best friend) and while I can get behind his relationship with Clare, though it was am insta love, I struggle with the way that he treats her repeatedly.  Thank goodness for Trent who is able to open up to Clare in Griffin's place, otherwise I don't know that those two would have ever gotten past his walls.

I throughly enjoyed the mystery and even when you think you have it al figured out it there is a twist that you don't see coming and I loved that, it was that twist that kept me invested up until the end.  I found that until then the book felt a bit slow and redundant, just Griffin pushing Clare away over and over again.  I love the way the second story is being set up and I know that if this one had its moments that were hard to read (a bit of darkness) Trent's book is going to be even harder.

I can absolutely say that while I had issues here and there with the book, I am glad that I picked it up and I will definitely becoming back for book two.

~ HAPPY READING ~
