Book Description:

New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant brings you another sizzling Dark Kings novella.

Born to rule the skies as a Dragon King with power and magic, Cináed hides his true identity in the mountains of Scotland with the rest of his brethren. But there is no respite for them as they protect the planet and the human occupants from threats. However, a new, more dangerous enemy has targeted the Kings. One that will stop at nothing until dragons are gone forever. But Cináed discovers a woman from a powerful, ancient Druid bloodline who might have a connection to this new foe. Solitude is sanctuary for Gemma. Her young life was upended one stormy night when her family disappears, leaving her utterly alone. She learned to depend solely on herself from then on. But no matter where she goes she feels…lost. As if she missed the path she was supposed to take. Everything changes when she backs into the most dangerously seductive man she’s ever laid eyes. Gemma surrenders to the all-consuming attraction and the wild, impossible love that could destroy them both – and finds her path amid magic and dragons.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

My Review:

There is just about nothing I love more than a Dark Kings story, my investment into this series is with my whole heart.  While I always want a full length novella, because come on...these Dragons each deserve their story told in ALL detail, I love these novellas too because I know that they give us a glimpse of new Dragons and they advanced the story little by little.  They are the little snippets that tie me over until the next full length story and I have to say thank you to 1,001 Dark Nights for that because I am not sure that theses novellas would have come about with you them.

Dragon Claimed is the story of Gemma and Cináed, (pronounced Kenny) and also the story of a little more insight into someone else.  As always I can't talk too much about what happens because it will spoil the read for others, but if you have been a long time reader of this series, you want to make sure this one is in your hands.  It's these books that give little pieces that make the bigger books come together in the end.  I really enjoyed this couples relationship, the fact that for Cináed there was a connection before he ever even truly met Gemma and Gemma's backstory, *sigh*.  It's funny because typically it is the Dragon King who's back story gets to me, but this book it was all Gemma.  Heck this whole book was just all Gemma, she was the true star in this one, the Dragon King taking a bit of a backseat.  I am really to see her in future stories and her interactions with a few other people, who shall remain un-named for now, ha and those scenes....they just make you hate that character a little bit more.  When the day comes for that character to wrap up their story it will be a grand one, I can't wait, except that will likely bring us to the end and I am so not ready for that.  I want all the current secrets revealed but then I just want new secrets, ha.

Dragon Claimed is classic Donna Grant, hot and steamy, intriguing, swoon-worthy, secretive, and dramatic, both in story and in description.  One of the only things I would have liked more of is more Con and more interaction between Gemma and the rest of the Kings and Mates, though that would lead to a full length book I suppose, which is basically what I always want, ha.

So get this book if you are a fan of the series, it is a must read.  I will say that I think this is one where yes, you can read it as a standalone but you will enjoy it even more if you are reading it as part of the series.  If you do read it as a standalone a little bit may feel confusing for you but it's still going to be a great read and I bet when you're done you head back to the very first Dark King book!

~ HAPPY READING ~

Excerpt:

“Gemma!”
She glanced in the direction that her dog had run. She hated storms. Her parents and Kyle knew that. Why hadn’t they helped her? Anger seethed within her. They hadn’t helped because they wanted to leave Daisy behind.
Well, Daisy was hers, and if she had to leave her friends and her home, she wasn’t leaving her dog.
“Gemma!”
She ignored both her parents, who were now shouting her name as she raced after Daisy. If she had to carry the forty-pound dog to the boat, then that’s what she’d do. Just as soon as she found Daisy.
Another flash of lightning bathed the land in light, giving her just a glimpse of the dog as she headed toward the house. Gemma ran as fast as her seven-year-old legs would carry her. She reached the house and Daisy.
“Hey, girl,” she said to the terrified dog. “It’s going to be all right.”
It took her four tries before she was able to lift the dog. She shook badly, but at least she wasn’t trying to get free. Gemma knew her parents were going to be furious with her. She didn’t know why they were sneaking away in the middle of the night in a storm, but the fear in her father’s voice and her mother’s face let her know that the questions would have to wait.
In less than two hours, they had packed up all they could and put it on the boat her father owned. She’d asked where they were headed, but her parents hadn’t answered and her brother had shot her an irritated look.
Once she got on the boat with Daisy, she hoped someone would tell her something. She hated not knowing what was going on. Kyle didn’t care. He always said that their parents would tell them when they needed to know.
Gemma stumbled and fell to her knees. She pitched forward so that she had to release Daisy in order to catch herself, but she managed to keep a tight hold of the leash and pull the dog back to her. Daisy seemed to like being held, so she didn’t put up a fight.
“I’m coming!” Gemma shouted, hoping her family could hear her.
She couldn’t see the dock through the driving rain and dark. Which was odd. There was supposed to be a light on the dock. She knew the way to the water, so she hadn’t gone the wrong way. But...why wasn’t the light on?

Passion burns hot in Dragonfire, the next Dark Kings novel from New York Times bestseller Donna Grant.

It was a soul-deep longing, one that got into his bones and settled there, sending whispers of desire through him. The need, the hunger, grew tenfold with every breath. . . .

As a Dragon King, Roman is sworn to protect all mortals—even though they no longer believe in dragons. But deep in the Carpathian Mountains, he discovers a beautiful and mysterious gypsy who possesses the power to see into his very soul. To reignite the fire in his heart. And to help him find the long-lost sword that could save the dragons forever… Sabina remembers the stories her grandmother told her. Legends of dragons and kings, fire and ice. And she’s never forgotten the dark prophecy that filled her ancestors with fear—a fate they tried to prevent by stealing a Dragon King’s sword. Sabina knows that helping Roman is dangerous. My Review:

My review feels like it should just go something like this

1. I like big books and I can not lie!
2. Cover Love!
3. This series grows you.
4. Action!
5. Adventure!
6. Twists and Turns!
7. Kick Butt (Thanks to Amazon I can't say what I really want to, ha) Heroine!
8. Amazing Secondary Characters.
9. Swoon-worthy romance.
10. Dragons!
11. This is a must read!
12. Did I mention, DRAGONS!!!!

When I began this series back at The Affiliate I liked it, but it wasn't a total favorite of mine.  Wow, how times change and a series grows over 4 books. I am a total convert to the love for this series.  K.A. Linde has found her voice when it comes to YA and it is gorgeous.

The Society is a huge book, 600 pages huge, but you would never know it because it reads so easily.  This story is encompassing, it is going to grab you and hold you to it until you come to that final page, leaving you breathless and unable to believe that you went through 600 pages that fast.

One thing about this series, you do not want pick up any book and just start in a random place.  Make sure that you read this series from book 1, The Affiliate forward, they all interconnect and if you try and pop in a random book you will be lost.   Book 4, The Society starts right in where The Consort left off.  Cyrena is off on an epic journey to save a friend and bring back dragons to save...well everyone.  She is an awesome heroine who just becomes even more kick butt through this book. Cyrena's character development through this entire series has been wonderful to 'watch' and wow, with this book she really comes into her own.

K.A. Linde really gives us everything in this book and just when you think everything is coming together she shocks us with unexpected twists and turns that will leave you gasping and begging for the next book...which sadly won't come out for another year *cue the tears*.  I love the connection of all the characters in this book, Cyrena's 'gang of friends' is amazing and all back together and I just can't get enough of them.  I am going to need stories for everyone, EVERY ONE.  Hahaha.

If you are looking for a new series to start that is full of action and adventure look no further than this series.  K.A. Linde has created a world that you won't want to leave.

Excerpt:

There is a power brewing in Emporia, Cyrene. And I can’t shake the feeling, and I cannot pinpoint it. But it is there, and it is growing.”
Cyrene felt the same words that Serafina had echoed in one of her spirit dreams. A dark power had threatened to take Cyrene out of the dream. She had even succeeded in pulling Cyrene to her where she was cloaked in shadow. She’d told Cyrene to come to her and given her a portaling coin to do so. Cyrene still kept the coin with her at all times…even though she’d sworn to Vera and Matilde and Serafina that she would never use it.
“Like what Serafina said.”
“She was what made me test that energy. Her warning prompted me to check into the matter.”
“And?”
Vera shook her head. “It is worrisome, but it is not here. Not yet.” Her face was still pale though, and she looked nervous.
“What does it mean?”
“You know the story of the Creator, yes?”
“Of course,” Cyrene said. “She created all life and brought about the first people. She was the one who blessed the very first Doma with her powers.”
Vera nodded. “That is only half of the story.”
“As with all light, there is always darkness. A push and a pull. A yin and a yang,” Vera explained. She looked sideways, as if expecting Matilde to be there to finish her sentences. “As the story goes, the Creator had a sibling—the Destroyer. Two goddesses who brought life and death, good and evil, creation and destruction.”
“Okay. But it’s just a story.”
“Is it?” Vera whispered. “Aren’t all of your stories true? You believed them all to be myths. Dragons, Braj, Leifs. Just myths. How is this any different?”
“And you believe the energy you are feeling, that Serafina fears, and that found me in my dream was the goddess of destruction?” Cyrene’s eyes widened in abject horror. “Are you saying a god walked into my dream?”
Vera shook her head. “I don’t know. Yes. Maybe.”
“Well, that seems reasonable.”
Vera laughed unabashedly. “Oh, Cyrene, you always surprise me.”
“I mean, I tend to believe that the thing I least expect is probably most likely.”
“There’s no guarantee that this is the case,” Vera said. “I could be imagining it.”
“But you don’t think so.”
“No, I should have seen the signs long ago. Who else could be controlling the Braj, the Indres, and the Nokkin? They are her children after all. Created out of darkness and used as weapons. The Nokkin were the first descendants of the Doma. A family that magic corrupted and turned into horrible creatures that could suck the magic out of people, bent on destruction. There were signs. Just like there were signs the last time. And we did not see them.”
“The last time?” Cyrene asked. “Do you mean…these same things were happening during the War of the Light when Viktor killed Serafina?”
Vera nodded once.
“And did you see this goddess then?”
“No. Just her influence.”
“So, I might be about to fly into a panic for no reason.”
Vera smiled. “Perhaps. We have the gift of foresight, as we know both the prophecy and how this ended in the past. We can stop this, Cyrene. You can stop this. I believe in you. The past does not dictate the future, and you choose your destiny. Nothing is set in stone until it happens.”
“And here I thought, the worst part of my night was letting the man with the red feather slip through my fingers.”
“Let me worry for you. Creator knows I already do it enough,” Vera said. “Focus on the task at hand. We cannot fight an enemy we cannot see…and if we are unprepared, we will lose.”
Cyrene sighed heavily and flopped back on her bed. No pressure.

My Review:

You guys know that I love me some Dragon Kings and this 1,001 Dark Nights Dragon King Novella did not change that at all.  I loved meeting a new King and learning his story.  I could have totally done full length book for Dorian but Donna pulled off his story seamlessly even in the shortened format.  As always you can jump right in any where with a 1001 Dark Nights Novella and not feel like you are completely in the dark.  I will say that with the number of books that have come before this one in this series there is a lot of history at play but instead of feeling lost this book will just make you want to go back and start from the beginning so you can get to know all these Kings and  their histories!

I am particularly in love with this story because it is clear we are getting to a point where Rhi's elusive Dragon King is going to be revealed and I honestly don't know if Donna is just playing with my feelings and twisting my heart up in knots just to yell "Gotcha!" when that book finally comes out or if she is well and truly leading to the one King I have fallen in and out of love with over and over, have wanted it to be him and wanted it to be the farthest thing from him every other book.  We are getting there, and our answer is coming and I honestly can't wait.

Dorian and Alex's love is fast paced. I wouldn't call it Insta, but this is a novella so things do happen at a clipped pace.  It is hot, steamy, and oh so emotional.  I love both of these characters equally and they make a great addition to the storyline.

Grab this book up whether you are a long time Dragon King reader or if this is your first experience.  I can promise you it will be an experience well worth taking!
