My Review:

I just can't not love these books, even when they keep me in complete and utter suspense for ages over a certain relationship, haha. Dark Alpha's Redemption, just like all the other books in the Reaper's series picks up right where the previous book leaves off. With that in mind it is really important that you read these books from the first one to the most current, otherwise you would be quite lost. I think it is also important to note right from the get go that it would not hurt at all to start with the Dark Kings series before diving into this one as they are quite interconnected. Honestly, Donna has been building this world since Dark Sword so if you really want to have the full effect, going all the way back to the beginning would not be remiss, though it isn't wholly necessary.

Usaeil is up to her old tricks, thinking that she runs the world and taking what doesn't belong to her. This time two friends of the Reapers and Death, and they want them back. The war is finally beginning to really heat up and this book is the perfect set-up for everything to come in the future. For those that have been reading this series from the beginning we all know that there is one person in this world that deserves to take Usaeil on and end her scheming and tyranny, but time is running out and nerves on all sides are beginning to become frayed. One thing that I loved about this book was the repeated question about why the Reapers don't just take care of Usaeil, because I think for us readers it is the same question we keep asking over and over even though we know the answer. I think Donna having others asking this of the Reapers is a way for her to say 'I hear you and it's coming, be patient because I have a plan!'

I also throughly enjoyed the banter and relationship between Bradach and Maeve. Seeing Bradach and Maeve in her own way, have to overcome his prejudices against the Dark/Light and to realize that it's not all 'black and white' was a wonderful aspect of this story and a reminder that there are no easy answers, sometimes one just has to follow their heart! I loved both of these characters, especially Maeve, she was just plan kick butt awesome! I loved how she clearly could take care of herself, wasn't afraid to do what needed to be done, but also has one of the biggest hearts out of any of the characters in this series in my opinion. She truly just wants what is right for everyone, regardless of where they came from. Bradach was just a great character to for his development, I felt like he was a bit overshadowed by Maeve and the on-going fight, but he still makes an impact for learning to open his mind and heart through his journey.

We still don't know, or in my opinion, can even guess, how this is all going to end and while I do think we've moved a little closer to that conclusion, I don't know that we are anywhere near the end and that has it's ups and downs. I love that suspense and I love getting more books each time, but we have been on this journey for a really long time now and while I really don't want it to end because that would mean we were done, I also just want to know all the answers to my many questions, ha.

If you have been reading the series for a while, you definitely want to get this one in, just to see what's up with Usaeil, but don't expect any real answers to what's coming. We moved one small step forward with this book but we did get a lovely new character out of it and a nice little romance! If you are new to the series, stop! Don't start here, go back to book one so you get all the details, this is a long journey but I know one that will be worth it in the end!

My Review:

There is just about nothing I love more than a Dark Kings story, my investment into this series is with my whole heart. While I always want a full length novella, because come on...these Dragons each deserve their story told in ALL detail, I love these novellas too because I know that they give us a glimpse of new Dragons and they advanced the story little by little. They are the little snippets that tie me over until the next full length story and I have to say thank you to 1,001 Dark Nights for that because I am not sure that theses novellas would have come about with you them.

Dragon Claimed is the story of Gemma and Cináed, (pronounced Kenny) and also the story of a little more insight into someone else. As always I can't talk too much about what happens because it will spoil the read for others, but if you have been a long time reader of this series, you want to make sure this one is in your hands. It's these books that give little pieces that make the bigger books come together in the end. I really enjoyed this couples relationship, the fact that for Cináed there was a connection before he ever even truly met Gemma and Gemma's backstory, *sigh*. It's funny because typically it is the Dragon King who's back story gets to me, but this book it was all Gemma. Heck this whole book was just all Gemma, she was the true star in this one, the Dragon King taking a bit of a backseat. I am really to see her in future stories and her interactions with a few other people, who shall remain un-named for now, ha and those scenes....they just make you hate that character a little bit more. When the day comes for that character to wrap up their story it will be a grand one, I can't wait, except that will likely bring us to the end and I am so not ready for that. I want all the current secrets revealed but then I just want new secrets, ha.

Dragon Claimed is classic Donna Grant, hot and steamy, intriguing, swoon-worthy, secretive, and dramatic, both in story and in description. One of the only things I would have liked more of is more Con and more interaction between Gemma and the rest of the Kings and Mates, though that would lead to a full length book I suppose, which is basically what I always want, ha.

So get this book if you are a fan of the series, it is a must read. I will say that I think this is one where yes, you can read it as a standalone but you will enjoy it even more if you are reading it as part of the series. If you do read it as a standalone a little bit may feel confusing for you but it's still going to be a great read and I bet when you're done you head back to the very first Dark King book!

“Gemma!”

She glanced in the direction that her dog had run. She hated storms. Her parents and Kyle knew that. Why hadn’t they helped her? Anger seethed within her. They hadn’t helped because they wanted to leave Daisy behind.

Well, Daisy was hers, and if she had to leave her friends and her home, she wasn’t leaving her dog.

“Gemma!”

She ignored both her parents, who were now shouting her name as she raced after Daisy. If she had to carry the forty-pound dog to the boat, then that’s what she’d do. Just as soon as she found Daisy.

Another flash of lightning bathed the land in light, giving her just a glimpse of the dog as she headed toward the house. Gemma ran as fast as her seven-year-old legs would carry her. She reached the house and Daisy.

“Hey, girl,” she said to the terrified dog. “It’s going to be all right.”

It took her four tries before she was able to lift the dog. She shook badly, but at least she wasn’t trying to get free. Gemma knew her parents were going to be furious with her. She didn’t know why they were sneaking away in the middle of the night in a storm, but the fear in her father’s voice and her mother’s face let her know that the questions would have to wait.

In less than two hours, they had packed up all they could and put it on the boat her father owned. She’d asked where they were headed, but her parents hadn’t answered and her brother had shot her an irritated look.

Once she got on the boat with Daisy, she hoped someone would tell her something. She hated not knowing what was going on. Kyle didn’t care. He always said that their parents would tell them when they needed to know.

Gemma stumbled and fell to her knees. She pitched forward so that she had to release Daisy in order to catch herself, but she managed to keep a tight hold of the leash and pull the dog back to her. Daisy seemed to like being held, so she didn’t put up a fight.

“I’m coming!” Gemma shouted, hoping her family could hear her.

She couldn’t see the dock through the driving rain and dark. Which was odd. There was supposed to be a light on the dock. She knew the way to the water, so she hadn’t gone the wrong way. But...why wasn’t the light on?

My Review:

Holy WOW! This is one of those books that I just don't even know where to go with on the review. 1. It's a novella and so I can' talk about it too much because I don't want to give anything away

2.Something happens that I did not expect to happen and I suppose I really should be able to tell you about it, because you will probably figure it out before you start reading, but I didn't know and that left it even more shocking than if I had known so I think I should leave you in that same situation. Makes it more fun for me when you write me to tell me your thoughts, ha.

3. These characters! The Prince, Brighton, TINK....always TINK.

4. The possibilities...there endless and I never want it to end.

So many things, happening in this book. It's been a few years since we left this world at the end of Brave. Evil still lurks, The Order is still fighting, Tink is still amazing.... But there are some things that will never be the same, like Brighton Her entire world was turned upside down in one tragic moment, changing her forever, making her into someone new . I loved Brighton, she is smart, funny, beautiful, kind, compassionate, bad a**! I hate what she had to go through to become the person that she did but I may actually love her more than Ivy (gasp) because of it. When I think of Brighton I hear Twisted Sister's 'We're Not Gonna Take It' playing as the soundtrack every time she walks in a room, lol.

The Prince, gosh, what do I say about The Prince. He makes me giddy. He's been awful, he's done terrible, horrible things, but he is not that man and though he struggles to accept his part in the past (something he could not control) and forgive himself he is determined to right the wrongs he caused (as much as he can anyway) and be the man he was always meant to be, even if it may break his and Brighton's heart in the process. He is the perfect hero for Brighton. He recognizes her reasons, her strength, her determination. He may not like it, but he understands and tries to accept her path. he came across very much as the silent graceful man who will burn the world down to fix it.

The Order, we have to talk about them for one quick hot second. What is up with them, are they the good guys or are they now the bad guys. I don't have happy good feelings about The Order after this book and that makes me a bit nervous but it also lends to a few bad a**, amazing characters to, oh how shall I put it....reconfiguring it all from the inside out. That I really look forward to because I think a certain someone would be an amazing leader of The Order!

It is amazing to me how much emotion Jennifer packed into this little book. I went on a roller coaster of them and loved every minute and need more now. I can't recommend this book enough to you, especially if you have already read the Wicked Trilogy. While you can read this one as a standalone, I highly recommend starting at the first book Wicked, just so you have all the background when you get to The Prince. This is a must read!

My entire body jerked at that comment, striking too close to home for comfort. “Let go of me.”

He held my gaze as he slowly lifted one finger after another, releasing my wrist. That bitter knot was back in my throat. The Prince had let go and his heavy lashes lowered, shielding his powerful gaze, but I swore I could still feel it. “My apologies,” he murmured. “That was uncalled for.”

A feather could’ve knocked me over right then. He was apologizing? The Prince? “Yeah, it was.” I swallowed hard, taking a step back from him.

“Even if it is true,” he added.

“Wow. Way to ruin an apology,” I muttered. “Not that you probably even know why you just apologized.”

“I do. It hurt you. Those words.”

“What? You can smell that, too?”

Those heavy lashes lifted, and the intensity of his gaze pierced me. Suddenly I thought back to the day I woke up in the hospital, to those eyes. “I can sense many things.”

Oh.

Oooh.

I had the distinct impression that he was talking about earlier, when I was thinking about the dream I had. And boy, didn’t that make me want to crawl up in a hole somewhere. At that moment, I made a mental note to legit not feel anything when I was around him or any other fae.

One eyebrow, several shades darker than his golden hair, lifted.

“Wait. Can you guys read minds?” I asked, voice hushed and thinking I didn’t know nearly as much about the fae as I thought I did.

“We don’t need to.”

Relief hit me, but it quickly faded when his words cycled back through my head. We don’t need to. Meaning picking up on our emotions probably gave them enough insight on what our thoughts were.

Nice.

“Well…” I held the folder closer to my chest. “That’s freaky.”

His lips twitched.

“And I need to go.” I started to turn once more, ordering myself not to run out of the lobby like it was on fire. But I stopped, facing him again. “I do care about these younglings. I will find them or I will find out what happened to them.”

The Prince inclined his head. A moment passed and then he nodded. Thinking this super awkward face to face was now, thankfully, over, I started to turn away again.

“Brighton?”

Desperately ignoring how the way he said my name made me think of stormy summer nights, I faced him, even though common sense screamed that I shouldn’t. I just couldn’t help myself. It wasn’t a compulsion. It was apparently really bad self-control. My wry gaze flickered over his face, and I bit back a sigh. He was the strongest, the deadliest of his kind, and that knowledge did nothing to dampen my appreciation of his masculine beauty.

“The red hair was a nice touch, but I prefer it this way.”

And then with those parting words, he turned and stalked off, leaving me standing there knowing one thing only.

The Prince knew it was me Saturday night.
