My Review:

I thoroughly enjoy this series for just some light but not so light reading if that makes any sense.  The Texas Siren series is an easy series to get yourself lost in for just a little while, they are emotional stories typically of heart break of some kind a redemption but at the same time it's not so heavy that you feel anxious through out the story.  These books are like little guilty pleasures that you just can't get enough of.

I Have been so excited to get Julian's story.  We have seen more and more of him through the last two previous books and I feel for him pretty darn quickly.  He's one of those broody rich type with some serious alpha male/DOM tendencies and you just knew that despite the show he put on he was just a broken boy own the inside, one that just needed to be loved, but was too afraid to truly let anyone(s) in. That is until a runaway bride jumps in his car and her 'gay' BFF and true love come barreling into his vacation and completely rearrange his life.  Julian was everything I expected him to be. Strong, determined, powerful, dominant.  He was also soft hearted, confused, and anxiety prone at times.  I have to say his wishy-washyness got to me every now and again even when I know that he's just struggling with the belief that he can love and truly be loved.

Finn and Dani are a great pair, I actually worried that Julian wouldn't be able to find his place with them for a while.  They are so tied together that I wasn't sure there would be room for him.  I loved that they played off of each other so well.  When one was unsure the other was confident.  When one needs to be reminded of their worth the other is there to build them up.  They play so amazingly well off of Julian that now I can honestly say I can't see having this story gone any other way.  I loved that Dani once she caught on to Julian's personal challenges never gives up.  I love that Finn is willing to truly give himself over to Julian just so he can also give himself to Dani.  This entire menage is a gentle give and take that works out beautifully.

I despised Dani's sister, I am half in love with JimBob...they tried to make him out to be this redneck country bumpkin but in fact he's just a really good guy in the end.  I hate Willow Fork, that whole town needs a Come to Jesus moment, but not the kind they would think they deserve, lol.  I loved seeing Ian and Alex again.  They just break my heart, these glimpses of them from their pasts.  I know how their worlds have ended up but seeing them before their HEA is just heart breaking at times but so wonderful too.  I am so anxious to get my hands on Siren Beloved.  I have fallen hard for both Lexi (Abbi's Daughter) and Logan (Jack's brother), then there is the mysterious ex boyfriend who we have had small glimpses of and plays a major role (of course) in their story.

IF you are looking for an easy reading series with a bit (well more than a bit) of a 'naughty' side definitely pick up this series.  I do suggest starting from book one just so you know as much about Julian as you can before going into this book but it isn't completely necessary, you could technically read this as a standalone but I just think you'll feel like you missed a little something.  These are not novella's but they aren't long reads either so they're great for a quick weekend or evening read.  They are MMF menage books with BDSM in the mix so just know that before going in, wouldn't want you surprised or anything, ha.

~ HAPPY READING ~

Excerpt:

“What on earth is that look for?” Julian stared down at her, his lips pulled up in obvious amusement. Finn leaned over so he could be heard over the loud music. “I think Dani is enjoying her role as town harlot.” Julian frowned. “Harlot? Why would she be a harlot?” Dani and Finn laughed together. For the first time, they completely understood something Julian didn’t. “This is a small town, Sir,” Finn explained. “All anyone is going to talk about tomorrow is the fact that Dani Bay snuck up the stairs at The Barn with two guys. Trust me, she is going to be called all kinds of names. Mostly to her back, though.” She shrugged. It was to be expected. At least no one would be feeling sorry for her. Julian’s face went dark, and his fingers tightened around hers. “They had better not say anything where I can hear it.” He relaxed and nodded down at her. “I’m going to speak with Jackson, dear. You and Finn stay together. We’ll be leaving shortly. We’ll retrieve Finn’s things and go back out to the ranch.” He turned and walked off, supremely confident that his orders would be met. He turned back suddenly. “And stay out of trouble.” Dani grinned. He didn’t look so confident that she would follow that edict. He walked away. She watched his gorgeous ass as it disappeared into the crowd. When she turned, she noticed that Finn was watching, too. “I’m sorry.” Finn pulled back slightly, his hand coming out of hers. That look was back in his eyes. “Are you going to be an asshole?” she asked. “What?” “I thought we worked through this, but it looks like you’re going to be an asshole.” She wasn’t putting up with it. Maybe she would have before but being with them had changed her. Being with Julian and Finn together seemed to have altered something fundamental in Dani. It had been beautiful. She’d never felt as deeply as she did when they were kissing her, loving her. There had been that terrible moment when she was sure Julian was leaving, but he’d stayed. He had to care about her. He cared, and Finn cared. She wasn’t going to let anyone take that away from her or make her feel ashamed. That was hers. Finn stared almost blankly and then shook his head. “I’m sorry. I spent so long trying to hide this from you.” “Hide what? That I knew you were gay? I was well aware of that. Why did you get upset because I caught you drooling over Julian’s ass?” His eyes slid down. “Damn it, Dani. This is why I stayed away. I knew it should be only the two of us, but I wasn’t sure I could do it. I’m not sure I can stay away from men.” Julian was shaking his head at Jack, who seemed to be teasing him something fierce. Dani stared at him for a moment. She noticed she wasn’t the only one. All around her, other women had their eyes on the hot new guy. They could look, but Julian was hers. He might not know it, but she planned on keeping him. And Finn. As soon as they ironed out a few things. “And it never occurred to you to say, hey, Dani, here’s the problem. Let’s see if we can solve it? No, you decide to keep your mouth shut and almost let me marry someone I didn’t love because you didn’t want to admit you’re bi.” “Damn it, I didn’t want to lose you. I love you, Danielle. You’re the only thing in my life that’s permanent. I would rather keep you in my life than lose you because I can’t be normal. It should be two people. A marriage should be two people.” Oh, yes, she had to fix his way of thinking. “Says who? The old biddies at church? Screw them. Why does everything have to be one way? What we did up there didn’t hurt anyone. It isn’t anyone’s business but ours. I love you, Finn, but I think I’m falling for Julian, too. Can you handle that?” “I can certainly try, baby. I was willing to love you from afar. I prefer loving you up close.”

Book Description:
Re-released in a second edition with new scenes.

Jack and Sam married Abby. It was supposed to be for forever, but lately Abby wonders where her alpha male has gone. Jack has retreated and life has become decidedly vanilla. It isn't the true marriage she and Sam wanted. Sam and Abby know the time has come to fight for what they need. A call from his mentor forces Jack to revisit the club where he discovered his sexuality. Jack's half-brother is in the city and interested in a little blackmail. Can Jack handle two defiant subs and a brother in need of some tough love? Sometimes all it takes to find the way home is a little love and a lot of mischief. Come back to the beginning and revisit some of your favorite old characters or find new ones to love. Siren in the City has been revised and new scenes added. And if you look closely, you’ll find not only the beginnings of the Sophie Oak world, but also the seeds of how McKay-Taggart began…

My Review:

Oh, girl....you are in some serious trouble now.  What has our Abby gotten herself into this time?  In Siren in the City her full brat comes out but for a very good reason.  I really enjoyed getting back to the lives of these three and even more so that this is the story that brings Jack and Sam closer together.  While I hated that for a good portion of the book the trio is separated I loved how every moment is meant to bring these three back to each other, through uncertainties, pain, fear, angst...each moment woven into a tight pattern of love, respect, need, and peace.

I find myself a little at loss in what to say about the book because I don't want to talk too much about what happens because there are so many little pieces that bring this story together that by giving away any of them I feel that I would be spoiling the story for you.  There is very much a bit of a suspense feel to the story that needs to be played out in your mind and your mind only.  What you should know is that this is an easy quick read.  It is full of romance, a bit of intrigue, a lot of brattiness on Abby's side as I mentioned, ha, some angst, strained relationships, heartache, and love.

I will also say that while I loved getting back to the trio's life, I was especially excited about all the secondary characters in this story, some I know and some who are new to me.  I loved meeting the Masters and Mercenaries men in this book, they were so much the same and yet different enough to bring me a huge laugh since I know who they become.  I need the stories of at least three of the new characters now too, Julian and Sally, and Lucas....what will become of them, one needs know and hopefully soon.

If you were a fan of the first book Small Town Siren (see my review by clicking the title) than you definitely want to pick up book two.  Yes, the main characters are the same, but the story build beautifully onto what we read in book one.  It gives us the relationship we knew they wanted and deserved and opens the doors for so many more stories.

Excerpt:

“Are we done, Julian? I would like to take my subs upstairs. It’s time I had a long talk with them.” She held her breath as Leo stepped forward. “I’m not done.” He stood in front of Jack, going toe-to-toe with him. “I’m the Dom in residence now, Master Jack. I know that used to be your job, but you’re a guest now. Had two subs caused the trouble yours did tonight, what would you have requested then?” Jack’s jaw tightened. “I would have immediately requested punishment. Julian would have wanted punishment for disrupting the scenes, but I would have requested punishment for the insult to me.” Leo nodded. “They both will pay for abusing Master Julian’s trust. I want her to pay for the insult to me.” The hand on the back of her neck tightened almost painfully, and Abby decided not to argue. “What insult?” Jack asked. Leo’s eyes skimmed over her. She watched from beneath her lashes. “She started everything. I was attempting to watch over Master Julian’s possession. She questioned my authority over Sally in public. She proceeded to ignore direct orders given to her for her own protection. Though the male is the one who fought, I understand and forgive his actions. He was protecting her. He’s your partner?” There was not an ounce of condemnation in the Dom’s question. He was merely attempting to outline the relationship. “We share our wife. But I am the head of the household.” “Well, your wife is topping from the bottom,” Leo accused. “I can’t let the rest of the subs see her get away with it. Twenty tonight, over my knee, right now.” The hand came off her neck and she heard a sigh. His voice was low, and she couldn’t stand the defeated sound of his reply. “We’ll be out of here in an hour. Julian, I’m sorry. Consider my membership revoked. Come along, Abigail. Sam, I expect you to pack whatever you need and meet us in the lobby.” “No!” She reached for his hand. Jack did business with the members of this club. It meant something to him. It was the whole reason she wanted to come here. She wanted to see this side of him. It had been the first place he’d called home. Now she would be the reason he lost it. Jack growled at her. She kept her head down, but she couldn’t keep quiet. “Please, Jack. Please don’t. I couldn’t live with it. I’ll do whatever he asks. I can handle it. Please don’t let this happen.” His hand found her chin again, and his expression was softer now. “Abigail, he could hurt you.” “Nothing will hurt me more than knowing I did this to you.” She could feel the tears streaming down her face. “Please?” He forced her to look him straight in the eyes, his gaze steady. “I will never allow another man to put his hands on you like that. Do you understand me? I don’t care what you’ve done or what their rules are. I only trust Sam. This relationship is between the three of us. I won’t let anyone else in, not even for a moment, no matter what it costs me. All right?” Though it hurt her heart, she knew he wouldn’t move. She nodded. “Leo, I wonder if you would indulge me.” Julian’s voice cut through her misery. “If Jackson administers the punishment, will you be satisfied? He’s serious. He will leave and not come back rather than allow you to touch her. It will more than likely cost me a friendship I would prefer not to lose.” The slight incline of the dungeon master’s head indicated his assent. “But I expect him to take this seriously. It’s obvious to me he has no control over his subs. He needs to reestablish control or allow them their freedom so they can find more appropriate Masters.” “How about you let me worry about my wife and my partner and you keep your hands off of her.” Jack took a threatening step toward the other man. “Don’t think I don’t see the way you look at her. You don’t want to punish her. You want to get your hands on her. It’s not going to happen while I’m still breathing. Get me a chair.” Jack hauled her up and she let him. If this was what it took, she could handle it. Hell, a part of her was already soft and wet. Deep down it was what she had hoped for. She glanced around at the crowd of people watching while Jack was brought a chair. They were going to watch him spank her. She hadn’t really hoped for this part. She felt her skin flush as they watched her. Julian and Leo seemed particularly interested, but Sally’s head was up, too. There was a strangely familiar face in the back. He had black, fashionably tousled hair and wore trendy clothes. He was young, but he watched the scene before him with a fascination that was hard to miss. An older man in a suit, however, stood right behind the young man, and his disdain shone on his pinched face. It took her back to a time when she saw that look on a lot of people’s faces. She felt seventeen again, with the contempt of her hometown all around her. She’d been young and pregnant, and they’d called her a whore. “Abigail.” Jack’s voice brought her back to reality. He sat on one of the office chairs from the horny ad execs scene. “Come here.” She turned away from the man with the disgusted expression. The rest of the room didn’t seem shocked at what was about to happen. They were excited. A thrill went through her. Screw the guy in the back. She wasn’t going to let people like that affect her anymore. She walked to Jack and let him pull her over his lap. Her pussy throbbed in anticipation. Her mouth went dry as Jack’s big hands stroked up her legs and began to push her skirt up. She was suddenly glad she’d fought Sam on her choice of underwear. He’d pushed for a thong, but she was eager to wear the cute silk bikinis that matched her corset. Now it would give her a bit of modesty. “What the fuck?” Jack fingered the underwear. “Since when do I allow you to wear panties? Get me a knife.” So much for modesty. She felt a touch of metal as Jack cut the super-expensive underwear off her body. She watched them fall to the side. “You’re just running wild aren’t you, baby?

The Red by Tiffany Reisz - Review

The Red marks international bestseller Tiffany Reisz’s return to the erotica shelves. Originally published as a limited edition hardcover for attendees of Shameless Book Con 2016, The Red—an erotic fantasy in the vein of Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty quartet—will finally being be available to the public 11 July 2017.

Book Description:

Never make a promise you don’t intend to keep…

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother's art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it's in the red.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting...but surely her mother didn't mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red...

The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.

My Review:

I am going to be honest here and say I don't even know what I just read, but surprisingly to all of you perhaps, I don't mean that in a bad way at all.  Tiffany Reisz has completely messed with my mind on this one.  I mean I always knew in the back of my head what must be going on at the basest level and yet the moments of fantasy are woven so flawlessly and intricately that I would completely lose myself to the images and get as caught up in them when they were occurring and then as bereft when they were over as Lily St. James was.

I have read Tiffany's Original Sinners series so I went into this knowing full well the style of book and writing I would be getting and yet still Tiffany blew me away.  She took something so mundane to me, I am not an art aficionado in any sense, and made me crave more.  I have spent hours since the end of this book and during the reading of it, Googling artists and historical references.  It is truly amazing how one little piece of information from The Red can lead you down a rabbit hole of intrigue and scandal.  Knowing just the little I have dug into the art world that helped create The Red I can only imagine the amount of hours Tiffany spent in research preparing for this book.  She not only brings us a tantalizing world and story in this book but opens up an entirely new perspective of art history for me.  Had I looked at the paintings she references in this book prior to reading it, I would have seen beauty but would I have delved as deeply into the fine details?  I would have been tantalized and perhaps a bit scandalized sure but I would not likely have looked past the surface and into the world or into the message the artist was trying to present. While I can say that The Red will certainly titillate and even scandalize you a tad, no matter how much of an erotic reader you are, the depth of discovery that this book brings with it, to me, outshines all the what some may term, 'filth'  woven through the story.

So after all that what is this story about in the end?  It is about two people trying to control their own worlds.  It's about loss, love heartache, passion, romance, truth.  It's about going against perceived norms and finding your own path.  It is about owning your own identity and truth and becoming the person you were meant to be for your own sake and no one else.  Tiffany gets us there through a very unconventional path but one wouldn't expect anything less from her.  There is a deep beauty to the stories she tells when one looks past what is forbidden.  The Red is not a light and fluffy erotic read, this is a dark book that will shock you, that will make you question reality.  It will give you goose bumps, it will have you setting it down to breathe and snatching it back up as quickly because you can't 'look away'.  The Red will make you uncomfortable and bring you to an edge of what you find acceptable and then push you over, but in the end (and maybe after a day or 5 of deep thought) you will discover that the darkness also brings about a bit of light and understanding.  You will realize hat this explicitly sexual story isn't really about the sex at all but about discovery, understanding, and freedom.

The Red is a HIGHLY EROTIC fantasy.  If you are not a fan of erotic romance in any form do not go into this book unprepared.  It would be a real shame to have someone pick up this book and rate it poorly because their sensibilities were offended, sadly that happens all to often.  This book may not be for you and guess what that is A OK!  We all have our comfort zones and our reading preferences, while I would like for everyone to read every book that isn't realistic and you need to understand what you are about to read before you do it.  As I said above this book can be shocking and at times uncomfortable but it is a worthy read and if you enjoy erotic romance or have read Tiffany Reisz in the past than I highly suggest picking The Red up.  The Red is a quick read for two reasons, one it isn't a long book...perhaps a bit longer than novella length and two it is also the kind of book that once you begin you can't put it down.  The world Tiffany creates is alluring and vivid and while I know many of us will walk away with a 'Whhhhaaaaa' face when we are done you will want more.  I honestly was not ready for this story to end.  I know that I got a completed story but I want to go back to the castle, I want more white roses and blood red thorns, (maybe in a wedding bouquet?) I want heirs...I want to 'see' heirs being created, haha.  Tiffany dragged me down that rabbit hole and now after bumping my had a few times in shock on the way down I am not ready to come back up.

Book Description:

12 Masters. Infinite fantasies. Welcome to Blasphemy…

He wants to dominate her senses—and her heart…

Quinton Ross has always been a thrill-seeker—so it’s no surprise that he’s drawn to extremes in the bedroom and at his BDSM club, Blasphemy, where he creates sense-depriving scenarios that blow submissives’ minds. Now if he could just find one who needs the rush as much as him…

When an accident leaves Cassia Locke with a paralyzing fear of the dark, she’ll try anything to get help. Ready to fight, she knows just who to ask for help—the hard-bodied, funny-as-hell Dom she’d always crushed on—and once stood up.

Quinton is shocked and a little leery to see Cassia, but he can’t pass up the chance to dominate the alluring little sub this time. Introducing her to sensory deprivation becomes his new favorite obsession, and watching her fight fear is its own thrill. But when doubt threatens to send her running again, Quinton must find a way to master her senses—and her heart.

My Review:

So as you can see from my star rating if you looked, I loved Mastering Her Senses.  I adored Quinton and Cassia together. I have added Quinton to my Book Boyfriend list, which may not be as long as you might think, but he's definitely on there. I truly just fell in love with this two and how their relationship plays out.

Cassia made plans to meet with Master Quinton a night two years ago, a night that both she and Quinton were greatly looking forward to but that night came and went with no sign of Cassia until two years later when Master Quinton is called to help in an emergency situation at Blasphemy, an emergency involving the long lost but never forgotten Cassia.  What happened to her that caused her not to show two years ago, why is she back, why is she in the middle of one of the worst anxiety attacks Quinton has ever seen?  When he discovers her reasons and secrets will Master Quinton help or hurt her and can they both keep each other at arms length?

So first off I am just going to leave this right here:

Now most of you know about my 'Pratt Problem' my not so secret love of Chris Pratt and while the fact that Master Quinton is described as a Chris Pratt -esque type guy don't think that I stopped reading there and said 'Welp, I need nothing else 5 STARS'.  I am going to admit that having him in my mind as Quinton did not hurt in making my heart beat a little faster and perhaps fall a little harder for this book than I have for the other Blasphemy books, but there is so much more to this story then my favorite celebrity crush. *sigh*

I loved the kindness and honest caring that is Master Quinton.  I love that when he discovers Cassia's 'secrets' he doesn't just decide he can 'fix her' and somehow knows exactly how to do it, he believes he can TRY to help her, he talks to several of the other Masters, he researches her issues.  In so many BDSM stories we have characters that are dealing with some sort of difficulty and it feels like the character with the issue just stumbles upon the right Dom/Sub and they know exactly what to do and how to fix them or they fix them with out ever realizing what they are doing, they just do their own thing and boom, fixed.  But with Cassia and Master Quinton there is so much thought and care put into her challenges and the ways he can both get what he needs from their arrangement and give her what she needs to fight her 'demons'.

All of Laura Kaye's characters are written this way, with great thought put into who they are, what they need, and how to go about getting the most out of each other.  Her characters are always so well paired but there was just something about Cassia and Quinton that was perfect, they brought back the feelings I had for Laura's characters, Makenna and Caden from her Hearts of Darkness series.  That quiet beauty I love about those two is also found in Cassia and Quinton.  They aren't over the top outrageous, their love story isn't full of angst and frustration, their relationship isn't built on half truths, lies or omissions.  These two are honest with one another from the start and even for the brief amount of time where they are holding their feelings close 'to the vest' they are never emo about it.  They struggle with their own hearts, but never with one another.  I love that about them.

I loved their calm and the peace that comes from them across the pages, even though they are both such adrenaline junkies.  There is truly a feeling that I can't rightly explain to you and you will simply have to read the book to understand.  It is a rightness, a feeling of everything being perfectly in sync and you don't get that a lot in romances and for some reason in Erotic Romances.  I have found that most erotic romances tend to have this crazy drama going on, but Laura has found the balance and seems to have the knowledge that you don't need the drama, the story of the relationships, the BDSM scenes, the ultimate love the characters have for one another are enough and....well I guess that's the answer They Are Enough and that makes in beautiful.

I also loved that we got a look back at Griffin and Kenna, that we get to see the care he continues to take with her and the thought he puts into her needs (do you see the theme?) and also we got another glimpse into the Raven Riders, woot!  If you haven't read their series yet this is a great look into who they are and what they do, it will totally have you over on your favorite book seller one clicking or striding up to the counter to delve into the the Raven Riders world.

Really I can't go on about this book enough. I loved it, it filled up all the empty spaces I had been feeling with my last several romance reads, it made my heart light and happy and is truly one of my favorite reads so far this year.  I know I will get a lot of flack about it and my saying this doesn't take anything away from the Hard Ink Crew, they were my first foray into Laura Kaye books and I love them all, but Mastering Her Senses may have pushed a few of my favorite Hard Ink guys off my Book Boyfriend list, gasp!  There is simply just something about these two that make me want to read their story over and over again, I honestly never re-read books, other than Pride and Prejudice, but I could re-read Mastering Her Senses and never lose the feeling of joy and completion it left me with in the end.  I can't wait for Eyes On You, the third book in the series, these books just keep getting better and better and I know Master Wolf is going to keep on in the tradition of all the Masters at Blasphemy and make my heart melt.
