My Review:

It's hard for me to find much to say about these books other than I love the concept and the stories.  I love the growth of the characters, the history behind each one and how they got to be where they are today.  Laura Kaye never fails to write a emotional, sexy, compassionate story. She writes from the heart of these characters, you can feel their truth coming through the pages and seeping into your own  heart and mind.  There's something about a Laura Kaye book that always makes you want to be a better person, that makes you want to go out and make a difference, to change the world for someone.

We met Billy in the first book from the series, Fighting for Everything and you just knew that his story was going to be an emotional power punch.  Watching the two main characters, Billy and Shay fight through feelings of guilt side by side just makes your hear melt.  Their guilt may come from different places yet in its essence it is the same.  I loved when they finally opened up and gave themselves completely too each other, gave not only their hearts, their emotions, but also their fears is just everything in this book. I adored the connection between these two but I also loved them just as much separately.

Another of my favorite things about this series is the look into the lives of the members of Warrior Fight Club.  I am so excited for each (please I need them all) of these characters books.  I love the camaraderie, the care for one another, the ribbing.  These members have gone through hell and back, heck some of them are still going through it, but together they find ways to live again, to enjoy life.

The only things that keep me from going a full 5 stars for this is that I felt like the end was a tad bit rushed.  It's a hard call for me though because I think Laura Kaye could have written this the length of War and Peace and I may still have said it wasn't long enough, haha.  The another thing is just a small one but it stuck out to me.  At one point Billy talks about his work but he doesn't sound as though he fully enjoys it, he comments that he would like to do something that is more of a 'on the front line' type job and that comment never goes anywhere.  I was kinda of looking forward to him having a life changing moment about his employment situation, especially when we got to the dramatic moments at the end, and as far as we know he's still doing a job that "pays the bills".

In the end I really loved this story.  I loved the silliness, the emotion, the characters, the message.  It's a classic Laura Kaye and I will be back for more and more so keep them coming Laura!  <3

~ HAPPY READING ~

Excerpt:

“Shay, wait.” The words came out of Billy’s mouth before he even thought to say them. As if keeping Shayna around had been pure instinct.

And maybe it had been, because despite staying away from her all week, just one night in her presence had him craving more of her. Her humor. Her sarcasm. Her easy acceptance.

Maybe it was because of how little sleep he’d had all week. Or because doing his job well had meant delivering to his client the terrible news of her husband’s infidelity. Or because his surveillance work had required a lot of hours of sitting in his car—and the constant press of his back against the seat had awakened the phantom pain of long-ago fried nerves that he sometimes felt something fierce. All of which had him feeling exhausted.

Billy sighed and crossed the room to the staircase. “Come with me. Tomorrow, I mean.”

From where she stood on the fourth step, Shayna frowned. “Dude, it’s okay.”

He shook his head. “I want you to come.”

Her frown deepened. “Why? It’s not a big deal. Really.”

Why did he want her to come? When just moments before he’d felt so ambivalent and even a little embarrassed about it?

Billy didn’t have to think long on the answer—because she’d reacted as if WFC was not only perfectly normal, but really cool. And it was. But it was also fucking therapy of a sort, even though the format was something way different than sitting on a couch and spilling your emotional guts.

He needed to make up for hurting her feelings—and he knew he’d done just that. The expressiveness of her face made her an open book. And telling the truth was the best way to make up for it. He knew that, too.

“I was fucking embarrassed about what you’d think. That’s why I hesitated when you asked. Not because I didn’t want you to come. Besides, you could meet some of my friends.” Unusual heat rushed into Billy’s face, and he dropped his chin to his chest.

Shay made her way down to him until he was staring at her bare feet and her bright red toenails. “Did you think I’d tease you or something?” she asked, her voice neutral.

He forced himself to lift his chin and meet her gaze. “You do like to bust my balls.”

“Not about this. Never about this.” Her expression was so fucking earnest, and her face was even more beautiful.

He nodded, feeling the truth of her words down deep. After all, she’d seen his scars and heard him talk about how hard it was to come home from deployment and been nothing but cool about that, too. “So. will you come?”

Her smile answered before her words did. “Yeah. Sounds fun. I’d like to come. But I promise I’ll stay out of your hair.”

“You don’t have to stay out of my hair, Shayna.”

“Oh, good, because this is driving me crazy,” she said, her fingers suddenly combing through his hair. “You made it stand up funny.”

Billy could’ve fucking purred. If he did things like purr, which he fucking didn’t. But her nails felt damn amazing against his scalp. He would’ve closed his eyes at the goodness of it if it weren’t for watching the satisfaction shaping her pretty face as she touched him.

“There,” she said, her smile turning a little shy. She cleared her throat. “So, uh, okay then. What time do we need to leave?”

  EXCERPT:

Billy unlocked the door and gestured for her to go first. She hit the lights for the living room, and he dropped their bags onto the living room floor next to the door. She turned and frowned, because it wasn’t like him to— Billy’s hands were suddenly in her hair and his forehead was against hers. “You drive me fucking crazy, Shayna.” “I-I do?” she asked, totally caught off guard but nearly euphoric at his words. “Good crazy, o-or—” He nodded. “Good crazy. Even though, fuck. I should resist wanting you. I know I should.” “No, no you shouldn’t,” she said, nearly breathless. “Why should you?” His eyes were dark fire as they bore into hers. “You’re just starting out in life. Everything ahead of you, full of possibilities. But me…I’m a busted, used-up soldier without an army or a war. And I’m supposed to be looking out for you, not taking advantage of you.” Shayna didn’t know what to respond to first. She hated that he saw himself that way. Shaking her head, she grasped at his wrists, holding him to her. “We had that conversation already. You can’t take advantage of someone who wants what you’re doing. And I…I do. God, you have to know how much I crushed on you when I was younger. Living with you has only made that stronger, Billy. Nothing about you looks busted or used-up to me. Nothing at all.” He came closer, close enough that they touched everywhere, and he searched her eyes. “Ryan wouldn’t approve of this, of me.” The closeness made it clear just how turned on he was, and the demanding press of his erection against her belly nearly stole her breath. “Ryan doesn’t get a say…” Her words trailed off, because as much as she believed them in this moment, they resurrected a memory she didn’t want to recall. Of a time she’d uttered nearly those exact words to Dylan. And the consequences had been catastrophic. “What do you want then?” Billy asked, pulling her from a lane of memories she didn’t want to go down. “I don’t want to assume, and I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything because you live in my house. Jesus, just saying that makes me feel like a lecherous asshole.” “You’re not. And I don’t feel pressured. I just want you.” Suddenly, Billy’s lips were on hers and his tongue was in her mouth and his hands tightened in her hair. She moaned at the suddenness of it, at the goodness of it. He walked her backwards towards the steps. “Is this okay?” “Yes,” she whispered around the edge of a kiss. His hands moved to her waist and went to the hem of her white tank top. “Can I see you?” Shayna nodded, pulling away from their kisses only long enough for the shirt to pass over her head, leaving her standing there in a lacy white bra and her jeans. He dropped her top to the floor. “So fucking beautiful. Can I touch you?” “Yes,” she whispered, sucking in a breath as he spread out his big hand against her throat and then dragged his fingers downward until he was cupping her breast. He caught one of her bra straps and dragged it off her shoulder until he bared her nipple to his fingertips. He hauled an arm around her waist, bringing them closer even as he leaned down to kiss her exposed flesh. “Can I taste you?” Jesus, those questions in that deep rasp were so freaking sexy that she could hardly stand it. “Please.”

“I got the bandages you asked for. I’ll grab them,” Shayna said. Without looking at her, Billy nodded once. She heard the frustrated breath he released as she left the room. When she came back up, he was waiting at the top of the steps. “I got it from here, thanks.” “I can help—” “I’ve got it,” he said again, not quite meeting her gaze. “You helped me, so why can’t I help—” “Shayna.” “Billy.” She understood how guys like Billy and her brother thought. She’d been around enough Rangers to know they hated needing help. But that didn’t mean they didn’t actually need it. “You won’t be able to reach the back of your shoulder. Let me help.” He let out a harsh breath, then turned away. “Fine.” He disappeared into his bedroom at the back of the hallway. She followed the rectangle of light spilling from the master bathroom and found him gathering supplies from the medicine cabinet. For a moment, she just stood in the doorway, because she could feel the anger rolling off of him. “I’m sorry if carrying my stupid desk made your shoulder worse.” He slanted her a look, and it was clear that he was attempting to beat back his frustration. “It didn’t, so don’t worry.” “I’m kinda predisposed to think things are my fault, so it can’t be helped.” He frowned, and this time all the frustration bled from his expression. “Why do you say that?” Because my idiocy and stubbornness killed my brother. That was what she thought, but what she said was, “I don’t know. Old habit.” Billy shook his head. “Well, this isn’t your fault, Shayna. And I’d be willing to bet that whatever else you’re worrying about isn’t either.” He closed the toilet lid and sat heavily, and Shayna was glad that he looked away, because his words had unleashed a sting at the backs of her eyes. “I hate that I need help with this. Not that you’re the one helping.” There went her belly again. “Just pretend I’m Ryan,” she said in a quiet voice. He smirked up at her. “Why would I do that?” “Because you probably wouldn’t care if a buddy was patching you up, right?” He shrugged with one big shoulder. “Anyone ever told you that you can be too damn perceptive?” “I am a photographer, after all. It’s literally my job to notice things.” “Mine, too,” he said, tossing an appreciative glance over his shoulder. Their gazes collided. Held. Made Shayna’s heart beat harder. “So, do I need to do anything special or just clean, bandage, tape?” she asked as her gaze scanned over his burn scars. “Put antibiotic cream on before you bandage. Otherwise, that’s it. And be sure to pat rather than wipe. Because of the movement of the joint, this spot is the one area that has struggled to heal.” She washed her hands and ran warm water over a wash cloth, then did as he said. “Let me know if I hurt you.” “You won’t,” he said. “I can’t feel much where its scarred. My nerves are mostly shot back there.” Shayna debated whether humor would help or hurt the situation, then went for it. “Well, in case you have one left, I don’t want to get on it.” One beat passed, then another. Billy chuckled, and the sound did funny things to her chest. “Appreciate that, smart ass.” She put a playful sauciness in her voice as she said, “You noticing my ass, Billy Parrish?” He didn’t answer, even though his mental debate as to how to respond seemed to ring loudly, making her laugh as she tended to him. “This is pretty much the same thing I had to do when I got the tattoo on my shoulder,” she said, smoothing antibiotic cream over the rent skin. She grimaced as she did so, not because she found it unpleasant, but because she worried about hurting him despite his reassurances. “How many tattoos do you have?” he asked in a low voice. The question reminded her that he’d seen one of them—her most intimate one, and heat filtered into her cheeks as she positioned the bandage. “Four. The one on my hip, and three on my back and shoulders. Once you have one, it’s kinda addicting.” “Is that right?” “Mmhmm,” she murmured, concentrating on the tape. “I think the bottom piece of tape might need to wrap under your arm a little to hold it in place. Is that okay?” “Whatever you say, Goldilocks.” “That’ll be Dr. Goldilocks to you, ya git.” She smoothed the tape down. He chuckled again. “What’s with the colorful cursing?” She grinned. “I grew up with brothers. Am I offending your sensitive ears, Ranger Parrish?” “Hell, no,” he said. “I’m a fan.” “There,” she said, surveying her work. Satisfaction warmed her belly, because she’d gotten to help him. And he’d called her pretty. And said he was a fan of the crazy crap that came out of her mouth. “All done.” He rose and peered in the mirror. “Perfect, Shayna,” he said, their gazes meeting in the mirror. And she could’ve sworn he said, “Perfect Shayna,” without the pause between. Especially when he looked at her like he was doing right now. As if she had on far too many clothes. And Jesus did she suddenly agree. “Any time you need patched up, consider me your girl,” she managed, still meeting the heat in those brown eyes. Brown eyes whose reflection looked her up and down. “Don’t you mean woman? Consider you my woman?” he teased, throwing her earlier words back at her. “You know, when I need patched up.” Shayna released a shaky breath. “Yeah. Exactly.” He gave a slow nod, then turned to look at her directly, bringing them toe to toe. “Then, consider me your man when you need muscle. Now, how about I go move your car and help you build a desk?”

Loving her is the biggest fight of his life…

Home from the Marines, Noah Cortez has a secret he doesn’t want his oldest friend, Kristina Moore, to know. It kills him to push her away, especially when he’s noticing just how sexy and confident she’s become in his absence. But, angry and full of fight, he’s not the same man anymore either. Quick Q&A
Am I writing a story too? You betcha! DĂ©jĂ  vu will be Doc Tuska’s story. He’s not a Titan team member, but he is a familiar and constant face in the series—perfect for Titan World!
Which Titan characters will be in the other author’s stories? The authors had free rein. Some took on Titan like missions while others wrote backstories to characters and expanded on their families. They took scenes from current Titan books and expanded in a new direction.
What is the reading order of the Titan World? There is NO READING order (Even if one of the retailers has randomly assigned a series number. Ahem, I’m looking at you, Amazon.).
When will the books release?!?! They will release at all retailers on January 24th! iBooks will release them early if you cannot wait! Get your hands on them on January 16th at iBooks.

About BULLETS AND BLUEBONNETS by Jessie Lane

From New York Times best-selling author Cristin Harber and best-selling author Jessie Lane comes an exciting collaboration…
What happens when Titan and Ex Ops work together?
Terror has gripped the NYPD. A rogue snipper took out, not only the NYPD’s SWAT snippers and police chief, but several others. Now they must turn to the only person they can trust: Jared Weston and the Titan Group.
There’s only one problem. The Titan Operatives are currently tied up with their own missions. Unwilling to leave the NYPD hanging, Jared Weston cashes in a favor from Commander Jaxon Wall. Only, Jared doesn’t want to send Jaxon’s Ex Ops Team for the job; he wants to send in someone Jaxon has kept secret: his goddaughter, Billie Jean Beasely, one of the best snipers working for the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team, if only her male counterparts would let her prove it. The NYC mission could finally give her that chance.
Thing is, Jaxon Wall isn’t willing to send his goddaughter in alone. He wants to send one of his own men to help her. Chase Anderson.
Will Chase turn out to be yet another man who thinks Billie is less of a shot just because she’s a woman? Or will Billie finally meet a man who realizes she loves her bullets as much as bluebonnets?

Age Recommendation: 18 and up
Rating: 4 Stars

Book Description:

From the bestselling author of the Kavanagh Legends MMA series, Sarah Robinson's Not A Hero is an emotional standalone military romance where love battles trauma, and there can only be one victor.

Former Marine, Miles Kydd, is trying to readjust to civilian life after ending his career and returning to his small home town when he learned his father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Once the town hero and star quarterback, Miles no longer feels like the man he was, or who he's expected to be--possibly because his demons have followed him home from Afghanistan.
Meeting Zoe Brooke, his father's live-in nurse, gives Miles the slightest glimmer of hope that he can still find happiness despite the dark secrets he holds inside. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and together they are explosive--in more ways than one. A helper at her core, Zoe is more than willing to care for Miles's heart, but not at the expense of her own, and she's not afraid to tell him that. She knows what having a painful past is like, and she wants to help him with his, if he'll let her. Things get complicated fast when Miles realizes burying his secrets isn't actually the same as healing from them and if he wants the girl, he's going to have to tell her the truth--the one thing he can't do.

NOTE: This novel contains graphic content, violence, and sexual scenes. Meant for 18+ years of age.

My Review:

Wow, this book is a truly emotional journey.  Don't even start it with out a tissue in hand and if you have any tigger warnings involved around PTSD or Cancer take a deep breath before going in.  It's a beautiful story but it can be heart breaking at times.

Not a Hero is a departure from Sarah's Kavanaugh men and women...the lightness that you find in their stories you won't find here.  The everyday struggles that you find the Kavanaugh's dealing with you will find here but it's almost as if in Not a Hero it's in a fish bowl, a microcosm, instead of this big encompassing thing you see in the Kavanaugh series.  What you will find that is similar is her men and women.  Miles is hurting, deep with in his heart, he's strong and he's trying to prove that he can be the strong man, that he doesn't need anyone.  He's tough but he's got that sweet side to him that Sarah is so good at writing.  Zoe, like most of Sarah's heroines is a tough girl.  She doesn't need a man to take care of her, but she is willing to let just the right one in.  She's been through a lot but has pulled herself (appropriately) by her boot straps and will keep moving on.  I love that about Sarah's heroine, they are different than her heroes but they are just as strong if not stronger some times.  Why am I comparing the two? Because, this book is quite the departure from what we've come to know in the Kavanaugh series and yet it isn't so different that you won't want to pick it up.  If you have fallen in love with Sarah's writing style, her characters, and their development you will love this book as well.

I don't like sitting here reaching what the book is about, you can see that in the description and I know you don't want me to give anything away so I won't.  I want to tell you how wonderfully Sarah wrote this book.  I want to tell you how carefully she wrote this book.  She is tackling a huge issue in this story, one that is affecting more and more people and more than just the Soldiers that live with the actual trauma.  Talking about PTSD can be a slippery slope for an author.  They have to condense into a few hundred pages a story that introduces the issue, create an environment that will bring the issue to life on the pages, find a way to work through or begin to work through the issue, and wrap it all up as neatly as possible.  I think the thing that impressed me more that the fact that Sarah not only tackled the subject head on and gracefully is that she didn't solve Miles and Zoe's problems.  She created an environment for them where they can live with the challenges, where they can work them out, but she doesn't magically make everything better...she leaves them open to fight through, she recognizes that PTSD doesn't go away with a visit to a psychologist or even after many visits.  She recognizes that the Soldier can't just push it back and not allow it to affect anyone but them.  She knows that PTSD affects everyone, the person suffering, their friends, their family, their jobs...

I loved the relationship between Zoe and Miles, it isn't an insta love at all.  They have know each other for years (although I wish they had known each other better as teens, but that's just my romantic heart getting in the way) but just as acquaintances.  They are separated for years and when they come back together there is definitely insta lust but it takes time and a whole lot of faith and fight before they work past the lust and into a love relationship. I loved the strength of this couple (together and individually) especially when they are at their weakest.  Yes, one can be weak and strong all at the same time and it is nice to see that portrayed so honestly on the pages of a book.

While Not a Hero is about the romance between a particular couple I think in the end it is more about having faith in yourself and in the ones you love.  Knowing like I said about that you can be strong even when you feel that you are at your weakest.  That even when you are at that weak point you are still loved.  I really hope that Sarah will continue this storyline with Tobin, that man needs his story told just as much as Miles if not even more.

Go into this book knowing there is a lot of heartache and a lot of hurt and while everything isn't going to be sunshine and lollipops everything is going to just as it should be and that can be just as wonderful as a....and they lived happily ever after!

~HAPPY READING ~

**If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD please check out this website for more information and know that while it may not ever be 'sunshine and lollipops' you CAN still have your 'happily ever after'. **
