Book Description:

This fight club has one rule: you must be a veteran…

Resisting her only makes him want her more...

Private investigator Billy Parrish is good at three things—fighting, investigating, and sex. MMA training with the other vets in the Warrior Fight Club keeps his war-borne demons at bay—mostly, and one night stands ensure no one gets too close. But then his best friend from the Army Rangers calls in a favor.

Shayna Curtis is new to town, fresh out of grad school, and full of hope for the future. With a new job starting in a month, she’s grateful when her brother arranges a place for her to stay while she apartment hunts. But she never expected her roommate to be so brooding. Or so sexy.

Billy can’t wait for Shay to leave—because the longer she’s there, the more he wants her in his bed. To stay. He can’t have her—that much he knows. But when fight club stops taking off the edge, Billy lets down his guard…and starts fighting for what’s his.

  EXCERPT:

Billy unlocked the door and gestured for her to go first. She hit the lights for the living room, and he dropped their bags onto the living room floor next to the door. She turned and frowned, because it wasn’t like him to— Billy’s hands were suddenly in her hair and his forehead was against hers. “You drive me fucking crazy, Shayna.” “I-I do?” she asked, totally caught off guard but nearly euphoric at his words. “Good crazy, o-or—” He nodded. “Good crazy. Even though, fuck. I should resist wanting you. I know I should.” “No, no you shouldn’t,” she said, nearly breathless. “Why should you?” His eyes were dark fire as they bore into hers. “You’re just starting out in life. Everything ahead of you, full of possibilities. But me…I’m a busted, used-up soldier without an army or a war. And I’m supposed to be looking out for you, not taking advantage of you.” Shayna didn’t know what to respond to first. She hated that he saw himself that way. Shaking her head, she grasped at his wrists, holding him to her. “We had that conversation already. You can’t take advantage of someone who wants what you’re doing. And I…I do. God, you have to know how much I crushed on you when I was younger. Living with you has only made that stronger, Billy. Nothing about you looks busted or used-up to me. Nothing at all.” He came closer, close enough that they touched everywhere, and he searched her eyes. “Ryan wouldn’t approve of this, of me.” The closeness made it clear just how turned on he was, and the demanding press of his erection against her belly nearly stole her breath. “Ryan doesn’t get a say…” Her words trailed off, because as much as she believed them in this moment, they resurrected a memory she didn’t want to recall. Of a time she’d uttered nearly those exact words to Dylan. And the consequences had been catastrophic. “What do you want then?” Billy asked, pulling her from a lane of memories she didn’t want to go down. “I don’t want to assume, and I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything because you live in my house. Jesus, just saying that makes me feel like a lecherous asshole.” “You’re not. And I don’t feel pressured. I just want you.” Suddenly, Billy’s lips were on hers and his tongue was in her mouth and his hands tightened in her hair. She moaned at the suddenness of it, at the goodness of it. He walked her backwards towards the steps. “Is this okay?” “Yes,” she whispered around the edge of a kiss. His hands moved to her waist and went to the hem of her white tank top. “Can I see you?” Shayna nodded, pulling away from their kisses only long enough for the shirt to pass over her head, leaving her standing there in a lacy white bra and her jeans. He dropped her top to the floor. “So fucking beautiful. Can I touch you?” “Yes,” she whispered, sucking in a breath as he spread out his big hand against her throat and then dragged his fingers downward until he was cupping her breast. He caught one of her bra straps and dragged it off her shoulder until he bared her nipple to his fingertips. He hauled an arm around her waist, bringing them closer even as he leaned down to kiss her exposed flesh. “Can I taste you?” Jesus, those questions in that deep rasp were so freaking sexy that she could hardly stand it. “Please.”

“I got the bandages you asked for. I’ll grab them,” Shayna said. Without looking at her, Billy nodded once. She heard the frustrated breath he released as she left the room. When she came back up, he was waiting at the top of the steps. “I got it from here, thanks.” “I can help—” “I’ve got it,” he said again, not quite meeting her gaze. “You helped me, so why can’t I help—” “Shayna.” “Billy.” She understood how guys like Billy and her brother thought. She’d been around enough Rangers to know they hated needing help. But that didn’t mean they didn’t actually need it. “You won’t be able to reach the back of your shoulder. Let me help.” He let out a harsh breath, then turned away. “Fine.” He disappeared into his bedroom at the back of the hallway. She followed the rectangle of light spilling from the master bathroom and found him gathering supplies from the medicine cabinet. For a moment, she just stood in the doorway, because she could feel the anger rolling off of him. “I’m sorry if carrying my stupid desk made your shoulder worse.” He slanted her a look, and it was clear that he was attempting to beat back his frustration. “It didn’t, so don’t worry.” “I’m kinda predisposed to think things are my fault, so it can’t be helped.” He frowned, and this time all the frustration bled from his expression. “Why do you say that?” Because my idiocy and stubbornness killed my brother. That was what she thought, but what she said was, “I don’t know. Old habit.” Billy shook his head. “Well, this isn’t your fault, Shayna. And I’d be willing to bet that whatever else you’re worrying about isn’t either.” He closed the toilet lid and sat heavily, and Shayna was glad that he looked away, because his words had unleashed a sting at the backs of her eyes. “I hate that I need help with this. Not that you’re the one helping.” There went her belly again. “Just pretend I’m Ryan,” she said in a quiet voice. He smirked up at her. “Why would I do that?” “Because you probably wouldn’t care if a buddy was patching you up, right?” He shrugged with one big shoulder. “Anyone ever told you that you can be too damn perceptive?” “I am a photographer, after all. It’s literally my job to notice things.” “Mine, too,” he said, tossing an appreciative glance over his shoulder. Their gazes collided. Held. Made Shayna’s heart beat harder. “So, do I need to do anything special or just clean, bandage, tape?” she asked as her gaze scanned over his burn scars. “Put antibiotic cream on before you bandage. Otherwise, that’s it. And be sure to pat rather than wipe. Because of the movement of the joint, this spot is the one area that has struggled to heal.” She washed her hands and ran warm water over a wash cloth, then did as he said. “Let me know if I hurt you.” “You won’t,” he said. “I can’t feel much where its scarred. My nerves are mostly shot back there.” Shayna debated whether humor would help or hurt the situation, then went for it. “Well, in case you have one left, I don’t want to get on it.” One beat passed, then another. Billy chuckled, and the sound did funny things to her chest. “Appreciate that, smart ass.” She put a playful sauciness in her voice as she said, “You noticing my ass, Billy Parrish?” He didn’t answer, even though his mental debate as to how to respond seemed to ring loudly, making her laugh as she tended to him. “This is pretty much the same thing I had to do when I got the tattoo on my shoulder,” she said, smoothing antibiotic cream over the rent skin. She grimaced as she did so, not because she found it unpleasant, but because she worried about hurting him despite his reassurances. “How many tattoos do you have?” he asked in a low voice. The question reminded her that he’d seen one of them—her most intimate one, and heat filtered into her cheeks as she positioned the bandage. “Four. The one on my hip, and three on my back and shoulders. Once you have one, it’s kinda addicting.” “Is that right?” “Mmhmm,” she murmured, concentrating on the tape. “I think the bottom piece of tape might need to wrap under your arm a little to hold it in place. Is that okay?” “Whatever you say, Goldilocks.” “That’ll be Dr. Goldilocks to you, ya git.” She smoothed the tape down. He chuckled again. “What’s with the colorful cursing?” She grinned. “I grew up with brothers. Am I offending your sensitive ears, Ranger Parrish?” “Hell, no,” he said. “I’m a fan.” “There,” she said, surveying her work. Satisfaction warmed her belly, because she’d gotten to help him. And he’d called her pretty. And said he was a fan of the crazy crap that came out of her mouth. “All done.” He rose and peered in the mirror. “Perfect, Shayna,” he said, their gazes meeting in the mirror. And she could’ve sworn he said, “Perfect Shayna,” without the pause between. Especially when he looked at her like he was doing right now. As if she had on far too many clothes. And Jesus did she suddenly agree. “Any time you need patched up, consider me your girl,” she managed, still meeting the heat in those brown eyes. Brown eyes whose reflection looked her up and down. “Don’t you mean woman? Consider you my woman?” he teased, throwing her earlier words back at her. “You know, when I need patched up.” Shayna released a shaky breath. “Yeah. Exactly.” He gave a slow nod, then turned to look at her directly, bringing them toe to toe. “Then, consider me your man when you need muscle. Now, how about I go move your car and help you build a desk?”

My Review

Oh how I adored this story. A friends to lovers tale woven together by the heart wrenching tale of a broken beautiful 'boy' and the strong determined 'girl' who will stand by his side even if that means walking away.  Fighting for Everything i a wonderful introduction to the Warrior Fight Club series, it sets the tone perfectly as well as giving us an exciting glimpse of what is to come.

Laura Kaye out did herself with Noah.  You can feel his fear, determination, sadness, anger, love coming through the pages as easily as if he were standing right next to you telling you his beautifully painful story.  Everything about this story feels real and humbling.  This IS Noah's story.  This is the story of a Marine fighting back to regain his life, to find his place in a world he isn't sure he fits in any more.  This is the story of a deeply moving personal battle that has to tear people down before it can put them back together and ultimately give them their own version of a happily ever after.

I loved the give and take between Noah and Kristina.  The unsure desire, the want, the pain of letting go (yes I even loved that part) and the moment that everything comes back together.  There was nothing fantastical and unreal about their relationship. This is a relationship that you can see playing out in your own life or the lives of your friends.  It is one based on long held trust even when the trust gets smashed to pieces.  I love that neither ever truly gives up on the other even when they know they can't be there person the other needs or they know that the other person needs to heal themselves.  That the love is strong enough to recognize that sometimes even if letting go is the hardest thing, it is the right thing.  While there are some wonderfully steamy romantic moments in this book that is not what this book was about and I adored that Laura was able to give us those but never take away from what is the truth of this book, and that is Noah's story of pain and healing.

I never doubted that Laura Kaye could make this book the beautiful story that it is.  She has an amazing talent at understanding and giving us the pain that many of our Service Members go through as they return home from deployment after deployment after deployment.  The pain of losing friends, team mates, family members, parts of themselves.  The pain of coming back into a world that is not the same one they left, the fact that they are not the same person they once were.  The pain of having seen death and destruction with out the ability to mentally handle everything thrown at these men and women, many who are young and have never dealt with loss and suffering.  Laura breaks it all down to a base level allowing the reader to peer into the minds and hearts of these men and women and to feel a small inkling of their heartache and turmoil.  I also adore how in EVERY book Laura writes she leaves the reader with knowledge about not only the issues that the book is bringing forth but also with real and honest ways that the characters cope and overcome.  The use of art therapy in this story touches my heart on a very personal level.  My daughter who is autistic uses art therapy to help her focus and find her personal narrative without having to follow the rules of society or it's expectations which is a struggle for her every day of her life.  No, it is not the same thing and yet it is.  It is proof that these therapies, ones you might think seem silly (as Noah did in the beginning) or that you aren't even sure exist do and that they are changing lives and that we need to support and encourage their use!  Whether Mrs. Kaye is writing to remind us of the struggles of our Service Members as is the case with this book or the fight against animal cruelty she always has a message and that makes her one of my favorite authors.  She gives the reader not only a beautiful heart felt story but a thought to take away and a purpose to support.

I am really looking forward to more of the Men and Women of Warrior Fight Club, of getting to know them, their struggles, and their HEA's.  I am hopeful we will see more of the inside of the WFC as we just got a basic introduction this time around and I want it to have more of a prominent role in each story.  A Laura Kaye book has yet to fail me and as you can tell she met my expectations once again.  I hope that you will grab up this new series and come along on this emotionally gripping journey!

~ HAPPY READING ~

Excerpt:

FIGHTING FOR EVERYTHING
LAURA KAYE

Standing there in the arms of her best friend, Kristina knew she had to stop this...whatever this was.

Tilting her head back, the words were on the tip of her tongue. Her eyes locked with Noah’s, and even in the dimness she could see that they were blazing hot and almost predatory in their directness. It stole her capacity to speak, because she was unequivocally sure he'd never looked at her like that. Need roared off of him and through her, spiking her arousal so hard and fast that she became wet between her legs.

From just a look.

Heart pounding like a bass drum, Kristina swallowed hard. What would she do if he kissed her? One kissing experiment aside, she'd never had to ask that in regard to him. Another question followed close behind: what would she do if he didn't?

He didn't give her the space to debate. His hand fisted in the back of her hair. The roughness licked flames through her and sent her heart into a sprint. And then he was guiding her head, bringing them together, bringing his face closer and closer to hers. His gaze dropped to her lips, and a shaky breath caressed her skin.

Noah kissed her.

The first press of his lips against hers was soft and sweet, and she thought she might shatter from the shock of sensation just that light touch delivered. The one that made her want to forget who he was and what he was to her and climb him like a tree.

This is Noah. This is Noah. This is Noah.

Kristina had never wanted anything like this with him. Never before. But now that she'd had a taste, it was like she'd never eaten a meal in her life. His lips skated over hers, and she moaned at the unexpected goodness of it.

And it was like the sound burst some dam inside him. On an answering groan, he planted both hands in her hair and kissed her harder than she'd ever been kissed in her life. His mouth claimed, his tongue penetrated, his body grinded against hers. He pushed her against the opposite side of the door frame, pinning her there with all his muscled strength.

It was stunning. It was glorious. It was so wrong.

This is Noah. This is--

So freaking good.

The kiss felt like he was feasting on her, like he'd been starving for her and finally let himself have a taste. His desire was thrilling. His rough intensity was breath-stealing. His need fueled hers. Against his chest, her nipples ached to be tugged and sucked. She clenched her thighs together, dying for relief from the inferno he'd ignited inside her. She sucked hard on his tongue and ran her hands up the corded muscles of his biceps to grasp his thick shoulders, trying to anchor herself against the storm his desire had unleashed in both of them.

Her brain tried to remind her why she'd come down here, that she'd wanted to confront Noah-her best friend, Noah, but then his hands skimmed down her body-over her breasts, her belly, to her hips-and his clutching, urgent touch chased the thoughts away.

Later. There'd be time for talk, for thought, for consequences...later.

But Noah is secretly spiraling, and when he lashes out, it threatens what he and Kristina have found. The brotherhood of the fight club helps him confront his demons, but only Noah can convince the woman he loves that he’s finally ready to fight for everything.

“The always amazing Kaye is kicking off a terrific new contemporary romance series that centers around a wounded warrior’s fight club. Kaye does a beautiful job exploring the fallout from war and PTSD as various characters struggle to cope in their own ways. The love story between Noah Cortez and his childhood friend Kristina Moore is both compelling and touching, for the obstacles in their way loom large. A truly memorable read!” ~ RT Book Reviews

  EXCERPT:

"Noah, are you down here?" Kristina called from the top of the basement steps. Despite the lack of response, she continued down and crossed the room to the mostly closed door in the back corner--Noah's bedroom since he'd returned just before last Christmas. God, Kristina had thought she'd received the best Christmas present ever--Noah, home from Iraq, safe and sound. Well, mostly sound, anyway. An IED blast had taken the hearing and most of his vision on his left side, and he'd struggled with bad migraines and equilibrium problems when he'd first returned. But he was home and he was alive, and having him back again had made it feel like she could finally breathe after years of knowing he was in danger every second of every day. She knocked softly. "Hey Noah, it's me." All she heard was a long exhale of breath, but it was enough. Why hadn't he answered her? Her stomach clenched as she pushed open the door far enough to see Noah standing in the dark doorway to his bathroom, his back against the door jamb, his arms crossed, and his head hanging on his big shoulders. She didn't need to ask if he was okay, because he was radiating not okay loud and clear. Kristina walked right up to him. "What's going on?" she asked. Dim light from the rec room filtered over him, allowing her to just make out the tight clench of his square jaw, the narrowed cast of his dark brown eyes, the harsh set of his beautiful mouth. Wait. What? Where had that little observation come from? Noah shook his head, forcing Kristina to drop the ridiculous line of thought. She stepped closer so that she could look more directly into his eyes. "Come on, Noah. It's me." She ached for him to open up, but what she noticed even more was the low buzz rushing through her body. From how close she stood to all his taut hardness. It wasn't like she was just noticing that Noah was hot, like, dayum hot, but nearly five years in the Marines had matured him and built hard muscle that hadn't been there before. And clearly her body was just noticing, probably because they hadn't had the chance to spend much time together since he'd gotten back. "Kristina," he said, his voice so low it was nearly a whisper, or a plea. He leaned his forehead against hers. It was such a sweet, needful gesture that Kristina's chest seized. "First, I'm hugging you. Then we're talking, buddy," she said, wrapping her arms around his big shoulders and planting her cheek against his chest. The embrace wasn't unusual-they'd always been affectionate with each other. She'd lay against him while they watched a movie or he'd sling an arm over her shoulders while they were out together. When things were bad with her dad, he'd hold her when she finally gave into her grief about it and cried. That's how they'd always been. He embraced her right back and leaned his face against her hair. After a long moment, Kristina pulled away-- Noah wouldn't let her go. His grip on her tightened, and he held her fast against him. Was he breathing faster? Was he trembling? Against her belly, he hardened. Kristina's breath caught in her throat. Noah was aroused...by her? Or just, like, in her general vicinity? Or...? She swallowed hard as her thoughts flew. As they stood there, suspended in the dark, stolen moment, the air around them flashed hot and closed in, narrowing the world to all the places their bodies touched. His erection grew, pressing against her with more insistence. Heat bloomed over her skin everywhere and she held herself perfectly still. Because this was different. This was not friendly. This was more. A strange tension wrapped around them, and it scared and attracted Kristina in equal measure. She shuddered out a breath as her body came to life against his. Her breathing quickened, her nipples peaked, her core clenched. Noah made a noise in the back of his throat like a moan, and his arms tightened around her, pulling their bodies totally flush. Kristina's breath caught at the hard press of his body and at the shocking arousal it unleashed in her. This is Noah. This is Noah. This is Noah. But it didn't seem to matter to her body. The soft cotton of her dress became heavy and irritating against her skin, and all she wanted was for it to be off. So he could be all over her. This sudden, intoxicating need was brand new to her-in general and certainly with Noah. She wasn't a virgin, but she'd never felt with another man the kind of desire rocketing through her just then. And all they'd done was touch. Why was this happening? Her hips shifted without her meaning to do it, and it made her belly grind against all that hardness. Noah hissed in her ear. His fingertips dug into her back...and then wandered, one hand pressing low against her hip, one skimming up her neck into her hair. Holding her tight. Bringing her closer. She was half sure she was imagining that they were locked inside this raging bubble of attraction, except that his heart thundered beneath where her head rested, his breathing had gone rough, and his skin felt every bit as feverish as hers. She had to stop this...whatever this was. Tilting her head back, the words were on the tip of her tongue. Her eyes locked with his, and even in the dimness she could see that they were blazing hot and almost predatory in their directness. It stole her capacity to speak, because she was unequivocally sure he'd never looked at her like that. Need roared off of him and through her, making her heart beat like a bass drum. Kristina swallowed hard. What would she do if he kissed her? One kissing experiment aside, she'd never had to ask that in regard to him. Another question followed close behind: what would she do if he didn't?

Book Description:

EVEN THE BROKEN, THROUGH LOVE, CAN FIND GRACE...

Secrets never stay hidden.

The burden of guilt never lifts from the heart.

Born and raised in The Order of David, Sister Phebe knows nothing but cult life. Head of the Sacred Sisters of New Zion, Phebe was groomed from childhood for one purpose: to seduce. Prized as a harlot, as a New Zion whore, Phebe is taken from the doomed cult by Meister, the notorious leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. Taken as his possession. Taken to be the woman who will obey his every sexual demand. Under his heavy hand, Phebe finds herself in a place much worse than she could ever have imagined... with absolutely no one to help. And no glimpse of hope.

Xavier ‘AK’ Deyes is content with his life as Sergeant-At-Arms of the Hades Hangmen. Leader of the infamous ‘Psycho Trio’ and ex-special ops sniper, AK knows how to fight. Experienced in warfare and schooled in military operations, AK is vital to the Hangmen. When his Vice President needs help retrieving his missing sister-in-law, Phebe, from a Klan-funded trafficking ring, AK volunteers to go in. AK remembers the redhead from New Zion. Remembers everything about her from the single time they met—her red hair, blue eyes and freckled face. But when he finds her, heavily drugged and under Meister’s control, her sorry condition causes him to remember more than the beautiful woman he once tied to a tree. Saving Phebe forces hidden demons from his past to return. A past he can never move on from, no matter how hard he tries.

As AK fights to help Phebe, and in turn she strives to help him, they realize their secret sins will never leave them alone. Kindred broken souls, they realize the only way they can be rid of their ghosts is to face them together and try to find peace.

Despair soon turns to hope, and damaged hearts soon start to heal. But when their deep, painful scars resurface, becoming too much to bear, the time comes when they must make a heavy choice: stay forever damned; or together, find grace.

**Dark Contemporary Romance. Contains explicit sexual situations, violence, disturbingly sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and very mature topics. Recommended for age 18 and over.**

My Review:

So getting to review this for Tillie Cole came as a little bit of a surprise.  I had signed up for the review tour and didn't make the cut, such as the life of a book blogger goes, but then unexpectedly more review copies were released and here I am.  That moment of 'Oh, my Gaaaaaaa....I have an early copy Damnable Grace in my hands!' lead to a lot of yelling and then total immersion into the story which then lead me into this horrible book funk I find myself in now.  What is there to say about this book except it will take over your world for however long it takes you to read it (for me that was a day because I couldn't put it down (unless forced to feed my children or whatever, damn them. *wink*) and it is going to tear you up and spit you out all raw and vulnerable, completely satisfied and more than ready for the next book.

Now honestly writing this review is terribly hard because for one I myself hate spoilers and for two, Tillie Cole has been very specific in asking that reviewers not spoil the book for readers and while I wouldn't do that anyway I am left a little bereft in what to say because this book is one gigantic spoiler.  There is SO much that goes on in this story, so many pieces that are revealed, so many new stories begun and old ones wrapped up.

So here is what I can say.  This is one hell of an emotional read.  Yes, all the Hangmen books can be be as difficult emotionally to read as they are swoon worthy, and beautiful.  Damnable Grace has taken that to an entire new level though.  I have seen many people say that this is the best of all the Hangmen books and while I don't totally agree, I think that Flame and Maddie from Souls Unfractured will always hold a special place in my heart for that title, I can absolutely see why this is being shouted from the roof tops by most Hades Hangmen fans.  There is simply just something so devastatingly heartbreaking and beautifully hopeful about AK and Phebe.  There story is one that will burrow deep into your soul and settle there like the coziest blanket you can imagine.  Of course every now and again some jerk, mainly one named Meister, is going to come rip it off the top of you and leave your body exposed to the harshest elements nature has to offer, cutting off your ability to breathe,  but then almost miraculously you will snuggle back down in your warm den of comfort, sweet oxygen will refill your lungs and your heart will beat again.  Damnable Grace is a story about finding the grace in despair, finding hope when you feel it has abandoned you, finding love when your mind and heart tell you you are unlovable.  It is a book about letting go of pain so you can find joy and seeing the beauty that surrounds you through the darkness that has been cloaking you.

You will love getting to know the 'Psycho Trio' better and you will fall more deeply in love with these three best friends who have become each others shield.  They are not what society would consider good men but they were all brought to this moment in life in deeply challenging ways and they are more than you may have ever expected.  We get glimpses of the rest of the Hangmen and it is nice to see how the couples that we have grown to love are doing as well as get hints as to what is coming next for this wild bunch of guys. This book is going to do more than just tug at your heart strings, it is going to try and rip them straight out of your chest so go in prepared and with lots of tissue.  If you didn't notice the disclaimer at the top please note that this is a DARK book.  If you have triggers for almost anything, please PLEASE consider that before you dive in.  These books are difficult to read, there are more moments in Damnable Grace then in any other Hangmen book that left me in tears and/or cringing.  This won't be easy to read but it will be worth every tear you shed and gasp you vocalize.

With out giving anything away I do want to leave you with a few links and and a few words. If you or anyone you love is dealing with the affects of PTSD please talk to them, please encourage them to talk to someone in their Chain of Command, in the Unit, at their medical facility, a private professional.  PTSD comes in all sorts of 'levels', it isn't a one fits all and there is no one size fits all solution. If you even feel like something isn't right in your mind or in the mind of your loved one, call some one.  You don't have to be alone, you aren't alone. Don't be afraid that this will hurt your Service Member or loved ones career, what matters most is their health and well being. The Military has come a long way and we have a long way yet to go, (I am a 20 year military spouse) but YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

**I am not endorsing any program listed below, (and there are many more than what I have listed here) they are just places you can start, they are places that can give you help and hope.  Please take a moment to look into them on your own and contact the program that you feel most confident in.**

Veteran's Chat (confidential)

With that, if you are a tried and true Hangmen reader you will be in love with this story.  If you are new to the Hades Hangmen world you MUST start this series at the beginning with It Ain't Me Babe otherwise you will be terribly lost and spoil a great deal if you go back to read from the start.  This series is so worth every moment of pain it will cause in your chest so I hope that you will pick it up and give it a go. If you are a Dark Romance fan this series should be at the top of your MUST READ list!

~HAPPY (ha) READING ~

“Well?” Ky asked.
Tanner ran his hand over his head. The brother hadn’t attended one of our cookouts or slutfests in weeks. Not that he ever entertained himself with sluts—still too hard for his piece of pussy down in Mexico. He’d been busy trying to track down Meister. Unlike most of the white-power shit Tanner and Tank grew up with, this Meister was untraceable and off the grid. As much of a computer whizz kid as Tanner was, Meister was proving to be one slippery fucking snake to pin down.
“Gotta be honest, I didn’t think I was anywhere close to finding anything on this prick.” Tanner nodded toward Tank. “We knew of him, of course. I knew he had dealings with my father and uncle, just never met him myself. He’s Aryan Brotherhood, but works closely with the Klan. And there’s nothing on him. No email traces, no invoices, no texts. Nothing.”
I gritted my teeth and glanced at Styx, who was listening closely. Ky wasn’t originally gonna tell the prez about the plan to get Phebe, because of his fucking wedding, but that didn’t last long. Styx knew something was up with his VP. He read him like I read Flame and Vike. So Ky fessed up, and Styx was all for the plan. He’d had to push his wedding back by a month anyhow to get the pastor Mae wanted to conduct the ceremony, so he had time to kill.
“But you found something?” Ky translated as Styx signed.
Tanner sighed, the black circles around his eyes showing how hard the brother had been working. “I got something.” He shook his head, and my blood ran cold. I knew whatever he had found wasn’t good.
Tanner opened the file in front of him and threw a photograph toward the prez. Styx looked at it, then gave it to Ky. “Some middle-of-nowhere ghost town?”
Ky passed the picture around. Vike handed it to me, and I studied it. It was an aerial shot, and the picture was grainy, but from what I could make out, it was just a huge piece of land scattered with decrepit old buildings.
I passed the picture along. “Fucker owns this?”
Tanner faced me. “Yeah, or at least his father did. He’s dead now, but the deeds are still in his father’s name. Been in the family for decades. Took me a while to trace it.” He shook his head. “Meister is notorious among the Klan. Right, Tank?”
“Yeah,” Tank agreed. “Never met him either, but we’d all heard of him. Prick has been mobilizing for years for the race war they think is coming. Real serious, Oklahoma-City-bomb shit. From what we’ve heard, the guy has a one-track mind when it comes to advancing the white race. You think Hitler was fucked up? Well, imagine if he had a kid who was one built motherfucker, with a fucking carbon copy of his psycho mind; and you’ve got Meister. Fucker ain’t even German. Just wishes he was, spouting German phrases around like he’s born and bred Berlin. Delusional asshole.”
“This ain’t gonna be easy,” Tanner finished, looking at me, Vike, Flame, Hush and Cowboy. It was the five of us who had agreed to go looking for Phebe. Hush and Cowboy nodded at me to let me know they were still in.
“So he’s in this ghost town?” Ky asked, translating Styx’s sign language again. “If so, we’ll all just go in and get him, make the fucker talk and tell us where he’s got Phebe.”
Tanner sat forward. “He ain’t just living in the ghost town or hiding out. That’s where he has his enterprise.”
“Enterprise?” Ky echoed. It was his own question this time.
Tanner nodded. “From what I can tell, it’s a fucking brothel. Members of the Aryan Brotherhood, Klan, or Klan sympathizers, can go there for a night or a few days at a time.” Tank shifted uncomfortably next to him. “Ain’t sure, but I’m thinking it ain’t just getting your dick sucked and fucked. It’ll be real fucked-up shit. If Meister’s reputation is anything to go by, we would be walking into an organized, armed hellhole.” Tanner’s eyes darkened. “I get the Klan has a reputation for being full of backward rednecks. I ain’t gonna lie—growing up, most of my father’s cronies were that way. Thick as fuck and couldn’t do shit without screwing it up. Skinheads, lower-ranked soldiers, you know?”
“But there were some members that weren’t,” Tank continued. He cast an embarrassed glance at Tanner. “We weren’t, for starters.”
Tanner nodded. “It’s not the norm, but some of us were good. Smart, strong fighters, or just outright fucking psychos. The skinheads and rednecks are the foot soldiers. The likes of us, the likes of Meister, are the fucking SS. The planners, leaders, the generals—the ones who believe in the cause so much that they’re fucking lethal with what they’ll do, what they’re capable of. Meister is true Aryan Brotherhood; he’s preparing for war. He’s the real fucking deal.”
“And now he’s in our neck of the woods to stir up shit?” I asked.
Tanner nodded. “Comes from northern Texas. Never moved our way before. But the Klan are building day by day, joining forces with other white supremacist gangs—like the Brotherhood—and with the shit that’s on the news twenty-four-seven, blacks and whites at each others throats, he’s moved to the headquarters.” The brother’s jaw clenched. “To my father and uncle, who’ll be protecting him from being found out by the feds.” He sighed and ran his hand down his face. “From what I can figure out, this ghost-town brothel of his has only existed in the last year or so. He’s looking to fund something.”
“They ain’t dealing guns?” Cowboy drawled. “I thought that’s what Rider said the contract with the cult was for?”
“Rider was sure it was guns. At least it was when he was dealing with the Klan—it was all about arms. The Klan was selling them on and taking a cut.”
“His fucking twin,” Hush spat. “He changed the arrangement, didn’t he? When Rider was locked up in cult prison?”
“Think so,” Tanner said after a few seconds of silence.
“Then what the fuck are they dealing? What was Judah giving them if not Israeli guns?”
“Women.”
