My Review:

So I have been looking forward to doing this review for over a month now because what better time to introduce you to a new YA PNR full of magic, mystery, ghosts, and suspense than on Friday the 13th?  

Haunting the Deep is a Standalone book from the author of How to Hang a Witch.  While the story line is different in this book I think that in essentials you will have wanted to read How to Hang a Witch first to understand the bad story, especially the relationship between Sam, Jaxson, and Elijah, something that I will talk more about in a bit.  

In Haunting the Deep we return to Salem Massachusetts several months after the end of How to Hang a Witch.  Life has become fairly mundane for Samantha Mather, something that she revels in.  However, sadly for our dear Sam things won't stay that way and they are also never what they seem.  

I really enjoyed getting back into Samantha's world, I had to do a little digging in my head to remember all the little details that hop from the first book to this one, things that I won't talk about here because I don't want to give away any of the first story.  What you need to know is that after a harrowing and horrific experience when Samantha first moved to Salem she's finally found a group of kids to call friends, gossip has started to slow down, and has begun to settle into her new life.  As a reader though, we know that this can not stay the same and it isn't long before Samantha's world is once more turned upside down.  The one person she thought she could count on always being there begins to act oddly and pull away, the group of girls (the Descendants) who she is reluctant to call friends but finds herself needing become more than she could have ever imagined.  Keeping her secrets from her father become harder and harder and the boy she may have loved is gone....or is he?

I love how Adriana weaves history into her stories, I love even more than this history is personal to her, it lends to the authenticity of her characters feelings and their motivations.  I loved in this book, and am trying to thing of a way I can apply it to my daughter's schooling, how the entire school rallies around this one theme (the Titanic) and not only is it the theme for the 'Spring Fling' but in conjunction the history and literature teachers are having their students study the history of the Titanic.  I love the underlying story of repression and how societies classes were viewed in the early 1900's.  I found that you can see a lot of links between what we see happening on the Titanic and with our society today.  This is not an overtly political book, don't think I am saying that at all, but I think if you are paying enough attention you can see something in here that you'll say still stands today and should be considered. Why is the 'villain' a villain in this book, it isn't as simple as being a 'bad person', there is an entire history here that brings about what happens in this book and I found it to be an interesting look both into the past as well as at our current world.  

Now, the one part that makes me go with a 4 instead of a 5 on the star rating for this book and I am certain this is strictly a me problem.  The relationship and dynamics between Sam, Jaxson, and Elijah.  I am struggling with this because I feel like though there was some magic involved we are watching the true feelings of one character get either shoved under a rug or completely trampled on, and it is painful to watch.  We are watching a relationship between what is as of now two characters that can not sustain a relationship.  The whole 'triangle', if it can truly even be called that, between these three is so anxiety and emo inducing that I struggled to get past it.  My heart ached the entire read and not because of the history of the Titanic or the suspense of the storyline but because of this trio of characters and what or what they don't mean to each other.  Also, I need a little more history of Mrs. Meriwether and Mr. Mather, haha.  

I think if you are a history nerd like me, this is a definite must read.  Like I mentioned above the way that Adriana Mather weaves history into her fictional world is wonderful and insightful.  You will absolutely walk away from this book to only having read an enjoyable story with endearing characters but also with having had a history lesson, same goes for How to Hang a Witch.  

There is a bit of light romance in this book but it is totally 'safe' for your younger YA readers, which is always a huge plus for me since I have an 11 year old advanced reader.  

All in all this is a great follow-up to the first book and I am really looking forward to more in the future.  I am absolutely curious to see what treasures Adriana finds next to send her down another historical journey and into another great read for us!

Fuming, Ísa made sure to set the alarm system and lock up. Everyone else was already well into their summer vacation—the sole reason Ísa was here was because she hadn’t been able to work on her lesson plans at home.

Her upstairs neighbor was having repairs done to her bathroom that required banging and hammering.

Not all of it involved nails and wood.

Hopefully the repairs would be finished by now. There was only so much ecstatic orgasmic screaming that a single woman in online-dating purgatory could stand without being driven to violence.

She spotted the tan-colored gardening truck the instant she came down the front steps of the school’s imposing redbrick main building and turned left to head toward her car. The hot gardener had parked it right next to her zippy blue compact. The front of the truck had four doors with tinted windows while the large bed was piled with shovels and other manly tools as well as a huge sack of clippings.

His light brown T-shirt was hanging over the top of the tailgate.

Which meant he was still walking around topless somewhere around here.

“Get in your car, Ísa,” she muttered to herself, well aware what would happen if she came face-to-face with that delicious hunk of manhood. Because while she might’ve conquered her shyness, she knew her limits.

Confronted by a bare-chested man who made her ovaries explode, she’d turn bright pink, lose her ability to form speech, and end of story. “Oh—”

She would’ve bounced off that sculpted chest if he hadn’t grabbed her by the hips.

“Hey, sorry,” he said with a startled smile that lit up the dazzling blue of his eyes. “I didn’t see you.”

“No, um, my fault.” It looked as if he’d crouched down to check one of his tires or something else but had risen to his feet right when she swung around to get into her car. And God, his skin was so hot and smooth and he was so tall and his shoulders were so broad and her mouth was drying up. The stuttering would begin at any moment.

The same stuttering Suzanne had mocked relentlessly when they were fourteen. Until Ísa had gone silent around everyone except the few friends she trusted. And now that horrible, ugly-hearted girl was getting married, having a baby, getting a happily-ever-after. Added to which, Ísa’s mother was jerking her on a string like she was a marionette, and her last “date” had asked her to call him Woofy and reward him with doggy biscuits.

The blue of the gardener’s eyes flickered with a hot flame.

And she thought… I know him. But before she could follow that faint thread, all the fury and hurt and frustration and sheer aggravation in Ísa ignited into an incandescent inferno.

She went mad.

Grabbing the hot gardener’s beautiful face in her hands, she said, “I want to kiss you.”

A wicked grin. “Go on ahead.”

  I push my hands from his shoulders and palm his jaw as his stubble prickles against my fingers while my hands wander up to his hair. His hat falls to the ground with a thud and I know he’s just as lost in me as I am in him, because he doesn’t even make a move to pick it up. He lets out a deep grunt when I mold myself against his body, seeking some sort of friction. The next thing I know, my back is against the door and he’s gripping my bottom. His mouth hits my jaw with a bite of his teeth, making a squeak of pleasure shoot up my throat, and his deep rumble of laughter reaches my ears as he presses me harder into the door with his hips. The heavy bulge of his erection against that spot makes me so desperate for him that I whimper in relief when his mouth finally closes over mine in a wet tangle of tongues. I’ve never been kissed so thoroughly. This is the kind of kiss that sets the bar for any that might follow. My Review:

Once again I have been blown away by Mia Sheridan.  There is just something about her work that gets under your skin and changes you on a fundamental level a little at a time.  Mia's stories are rooted deep in the human psyche, in the saddest edges of our heart.  Her books are heavy and heart breaking but always with an underlying sense of hope and the truth that even out of the deepest pain and despair joy and happiness can be found.

Most of All You is right up there with Archer's Voice for me and any fan of Mia Sheridan knows that  statement says more than stars or words of praise I could truly give.  Archer's Voice is my go to in every recommendation I give for a Contemporary Romance, it is the standard by which I hold everyone else and I am thrilled that Mia was able to create another book that brought me so many feelings, a mother book that I can now say with out a doubt is a true work of art and should be read by every romance reader out there.

 I adore Mia Archer's work for how she takes these utterly broken characters and gives them back their lives.  I love how she never writes characters that are completely defeated, there is always that desire to be better, to be stronger, to live.  Gabriel is just amazing.  He is the embodiment of a hero.  Bravery and honor are the foundation of who he is, his heartbreaking past the blocks of who he has become that sit on top of that original foundation, and his hope and love (oh man does this guy have hope and love) the windows that will let all the light, his past has dimmed, into his soul.  Just to take that corny comparison of mine even farther, Crystal is, well she is the crystal hanging in his windows that let the rainbows shine.  She brings color back into his world, opening him up to all the things he thought gone but still yearned for.  That ability to love and be loved, truly loved and desired by another person.

The character development of both Gabriel and Crystal is simply beautiful, watching them both grow and change, particularly Crystal is truly like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly.  They have both buried the beauty so deep that it was hard for even them to see it in themselves, but the way they saw that beauty and pulled it out of each other is magical.  All of Mia's books leave a mark on your soul in some way but Most of All You will truly change the way that you look at yourself and others. It is a gift to have had the opportunity to read this book, one that I will cherish.  It is a book that will remind you that we all have choices and the ones we make affect more than ourselves, but it will also remind you that though you may make a choice, out of desperation or despair, that you may have not made otherwise there is always the opportunity to come back from that.  There is always the opportunity to be the person you know yourself to be and there is always a person out there who will stand beside you no matter the choice.

In the end all Mia's book are about hope and love and though they may tear us apart while reading them you know when you finish you will have been on a truly beautiful journey through the heart. If you haven't read a Mia Sheridan book before I can not recommend them enough to you and Most of All You is a perfect place to begin.  If you have read her books in the past and you hesitate since this isn't one of her Signs of Love series books, (which for those unfamiliar are almost all standalone so go forth and read with out worry) that this is a traditionally published book, do not worry, this is classic beautiful Mia Sheridan work and you want this book on your bookshelf and in your hands!
