Book Description:

Summer 1977, Oriel Anderson finds herself on the charming Greek island of Helios hoping to fulfill a long held dream or joining an archaeological dive team. Broken hearted after her university fiancĂ© leaves her for her best friend, Oriel is determined to prove she can make it in a man’s world by heading up an all-male dive team on her first underwater dig. Spending her days excavating a Roman shipwreck, surrounded by turquoise waters and scorching sunshine, Oriel thinks that she has found paradise, until she meets her employer and the owner of the Island, Damian Lekkas. A widower, with a scarred face, Damian is a brooding presence on the island who instantly takes a shine to Oriel, but Oriel resolves to maintain a professional relationship between them. But the mercurial Damian has other ideas, and Oriel’s stay soon becomes a battle between her head and her heart. When strange things start happening Oriel doesn’t know what to think. She learns that no other women who had come to work on the dive had lasted more than a few weeks, a young boy almost drowns on one of her dives, then one morning Oriel finds a dead songbird in her room, its throat slit. Finally out exploring the beaches Oriel becomes trapped in a cave. Is it all just a coincidence or is someone trying to send her a warning?

My Review:

First let's start off with how much I love this cover.  It is beautiful.  If I saw this book sitting on a shelf I would have definitely stopped to look at it just because of how pretty the cover art is.  It is a big book, almost 600 pages, (something we will talk about more in a minute) but when you touch it and swoon over the cover it doesn't feel so daunting and is totally inviting you in for an adventure.

I really enjoyed that this book is set in the 1970's.  I think that gives the author a little bit of leeway in the actions of her characters and the setting she is creating that she wouldn't have necessarily been able to pull off if it had been in this time period.  Due to politics, etc Greece of the 2000's has lost (in my opinion) some of its magic and she was able to bring that back to me by pushing the time period to an earlier era.  It also enables her characters to act in ways that would not be appreciated by others in this day and age, though we also have to keep in mind that an American mindset does not always translate to Greece (or any other country honestly, ha) mindset.  The seventies were a time of exploration but also a time that was still rooted in many 'old-fashioned' points of view.  I appreciate as well how well Ms. Fielding remains rooted in that time period, not slipping into mannerisms or attitudes that would be standard today that were not then. It is easy to let today slip into yesterday, but Ms. Fielding does a wonderful job of staying true, not an easy task I am certain.

I also loved the 'feel' of the book as I read.  You are taken on a journey with the characters to Greece and are given all the senses in a way that makes you feel as if you had truly been there.  Her descriptions are beautifully detailed and bursting to life on the pages.   This however is also where I get a little stuck and it is simply that at times things can become bogged down in the descriptions, they can become overwhelming (hence, 600 pages) and you may find yourself skipping along to get back to the 'good' stuff.

Oriel is a British Archeologist who specializes in Greek history who has been given the chance to fulfill one of her lifetime dreams of joining a Greek archeological dive team, (who is going out to sign up for their own dive certification now?)  surprisingly her boss on this adventure turns out to be a past one night stand, a one night stand that she has never forgotten, but now she can't let herself go back down that path.  Damian is the owner of the island that Oriel finds herself exploring and not only that but he has a very different the on how their relationship or lack there off.

I loved the excitement that everyone had over each discovery, the fact that Oriel and Damian are able to in a way come together over their shared love of history. (something I throughly approve of, ha) I enjoyed the build up of their romance and in particular the suspense that is wrapped around it.  There were times when the angst gets heavy but it is truly what I would consider an epic love story, one that will have you oohing and awning, with a whole lot of swooning too.

This is the first book I have read from Hannah Fielding and I have to say that I throughly enjoyed it, despite the length of the book, ha.  Aphrodite's Tears is a sweeping tale of romance, mystery, discovery, and passion and not just the romantic kind.  You will fall under it's spell and find yourself immersed in a whole new world that plays out like one of the classic soap operas that we all loved of the 1980's (dating myself, sigh). You will fall involve not only with the main characters but also with the island itself.  You will have plenty of characters to round out the cast with some you love and some you hate.  This is the perfect read for your spring break beach weekend.  Grab a beach chair, a towel, and a glass of wine then settle in for a wonderful adventure!

Book Description:

She’s in a white dress that dances around her ankles, and her hair tumbles in a long sheet of curls down her back. A veil covers her beautiful eyes, and she smiles directly at him. Janie is everything Rafe’s ever imagined she would be on her wedding day. Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Perfect. The moment he sees her walking down the aisle towards him, he knows that she’s the one. Then she passes him, making her way to the man she’s to marry. A man that wasn’t him. A man that he knows with one hundred percent certainty isn’t good enough for her. It seems that her father isn’t the only one who’s having a hard time giving her away. Rafe only wishes he knew why. Everything about Janie sparks protective instincts he doesn’t feel for anyone, not even his own fiancĂ©. What he feels for the bride, however, isn’t merely a simple attraction. He knows that something is there just beneath the surface…if only he could reach it. It has to be something huge, too, otherwise he wouldn’t be drinking whiskey straight from the flask in a church pew and wondering how many years he would do in prison if he shot the groom in front of about a hundred witnesses—half of those being cops. He was good…but not that good. A near-death experience cost Rafe almost six months of his memory, but right now he can’t help but feel like a huge mistake is being made on both of their parts. One that’s going to cost him everything. Then she says I do.

My Review:

This is my first read from Lani Lynn Vale and I am really glad to now have her in my list of go to authors now.  I am a big fan of motorcycle club romances and while this one revolves around a club that we would have learned about from a previous series or two, the bulk of this book isn't your typical MC style read.  Life of the couple doesn't revolve around the life of the club, in fact our hero isn't even a club member, he's more like a sub contractor, lol.  Our heroine however is the daughter of I believe the club president, but honestly, and this comes because I haven't read the series (The Freebirds, at lest) that this book is a spin off from, I don't know how deep in the the MC world (or if the Freebirds are really considered a traditional MC) the other books get in to either.  While this can be read as a stand alone I will say, I really think it would have been better to have started at the beginning of this whole 'world' so that not only would I have seen the build up between the two main characters (Rafe and Janie) in Kinda Don't Care but I would also fully understand the mission and the workings of the Freebirds.  Are they an MC, are they a security firm, are they just a bunch of prior service alpha's doing good deeds for others in need....I know Janie's dad is a cop, how does that play in his role as a Freebird? Knowing all of those things would have made the book just that much better, of course that's on me, not the author but there you have it.

All that said don't not read this book, because I think it is a fabulous read.  I loved, LOVED Rafe even though he might have been a bit pervy when it comes to the age difference in the beginning.  Keep a bit of an open mind, he never does anything that makes him shudder worthy but he does take notice of a young Janie and it might make you cringe just a little, but she is well old enough to have a relationship with him when it finally occurs.  I loved his loyalty, his compassion, his alpha tendencies while still being completely respectful.  I loved his passion for what he does and for the people he loves.  He is simply just a fantastic hero, the kind you can't help but fall for straight from the first pages.

Janie is an amazing heroine, strong, patient, intelligent, as swoon worthy as Rafe.  She is a determined woman on a mission to be who she wants and love who she wants.  I completely appreciate that she has had no doubt for years that Rafe is the man for her.  I adored the there school girl crush matures and she does and is able to come to full fruition over time.  It makes her the perfect match for Rafe in all ways.  She is a young woman but one that knows exactly who and what she wants and she's nt only patient enough to wait for it but also determined enough to work for it.

Things get a little crazy when these two finally come together after Rafe is injured and their world starts to spiral out of their control.  It was sometimes hard to 'watch' because you know that this couple is simply meant to be.  I loved that the author reassures us over and over that things are not always what they seem and she would never 'hurt' her readers by 'hurting' her couple.

I really enjoyed the plot line and the suspense.  I will say I was totally shocked at the end, I never expected things to take the turn they did.  Honestly it threw me off a little but when all was said and done it felt perfectly right.  Definitely a Ah-Ha, now see I got ya moment, ha.

One thing I really didn't like was the treatment of Rafe.  Now because I hadn't read the other books that revolve around this world maybe I couldn't fully understand the reasoning behind it, but honestly it just plain seemed cruel and unnecessary to me.  I appreciated that it bothered Janie enough to have her constantly saying to herself that she needed to put an end to the behavior but I hated that she never fully went through with that.  Considering how long she has been in love with Rafe, one would have thought that she would have nipped that shite in the bud fast.  For a group of men and women who have a role in protecting others it really baffled me as to why they would in essence bully someone who is supportive and invested in their mission.  Again, maybe I just don't get it because I haven't seen the build up to that moment, but yeah...I wasn't to thrilled with aspect.

I am totally thrilled though to be going back and finding out what has gone on before now.  Learning all about this group of people and how they have become who they are to this point.  I am also excited about the books I have to look forward to in this new spin off series, Simple Man. Lastly let's just talk this cover for a minute....wait let's not, let's just all go and stare longingly at it.  If I had seen this book on the bookshelf it would have been a total cover love purchase even if I never read it I would have wanted it on my shelf, haha.  In fact, I think I am off to see if I can get the paperback right now.

Three dates. One kiss. And a big-ass mess…

“The fuck are you doing here?” “Elliott said you needed help. Here is your help.” Peyton gestured extravagantly to herself before she shut the door behind her. “And I know it’s about Chloe and her date, so cut to the chase.” Girl-talk. Of course she already knew. “I need to fill out her application,” I told her. “But I’m stuck.” She rolled her eyes. “And you can’t ask her to do it?” I stared at her flatly. “Right, no, of course,” she drawled, a tiny hint of her New Orleans drawl twanging at every word. “Why would you ask the woman you’re in love with to fill out her own dating record?” “Can you shut the fuck up and help me?” I threw my hands out to the sides.  “I found her a match. Help me out here, Peyt.” My sister stilled. “You found her a match?” “Of course I did. I said I would, so I did.” “Wow. You’re actually going through with it. Kudos, bro.” She rounded my desk and perched on the arm of my chair. I glanced at her. “Can you put your chest away?” She tugged at the neckline of her shirt and pulled it right up. “Put away. Let me see what you’ve written so far.” She snatched the mouse out of my hand and scrolled. “Jesus, Dom,” she said after a minute. “This is basic. This won’t get her laid.” I didn’t want to get her laid. I wanted to get her a good date, not a fucking orgasm. “Whatever. Can you make her attractive to a random stranger?” “You can’t?” Peyton quirked an eyebrow and looked at me. “You’ve been attracted to her for at least ten years. Surely you can do better than this.” “Peyton. I want your help, not your bullshit.” “Good luck with that,” she muttered. “All right, move your ass. Let me do this for you.” “Don’t make her sound too attractive.” My voice was no louder than hers had been as I stood and made way for her to take my seat. She snorted, deleting everything I’d written except the first couple of questions. “I’m gonna make her so attractive that she has every eligible bachelor in New Orleans clambering for her attention.”

Heaven was Samara in a little green dress.

Beckett watched her walk across the lobby, her mile-long legs eating up the distance with ease. That glimpse of wildness she’d given him last night was in full effect today, her hair a mass of black waves that seemed to curl and snap around her shoulders with each step. Her dress fitted her like a second skin, sloping down over her breasts, her stomach, to her hips and thighs.

But it was her dark eyes that drew and held him. Anger and desire and something like guilt lingered there, and she held his gaze as she stopped in front of him. “Do I meet your expectation?”

“You’re beautiful.”

She arched a single eyebrow. “I know.”

That surprised a laugh out of him. Beckett turned to the elevator bank and offered his elbow. The gentlemanly move was over-the-top for their current circumstances, but he couldn’t be this close to her without touching her. Kissing her now, here, was a terrible damn idea, so he’d settle for the small touch. “No false modesty. I like that.”

“I think we’ve established that I don’t operate based on what you like.” Despite her words, amusement pulled at the edges of her lips, and she set her hand carefully on his forearm. “Every time I think I have your number down, you surprise me. Most guys get pissy pants if a woman doesn’t fall at their feet when they call her beautiful.”

“I’m not most guys.” He waited for the elevator door to open and led her onto it. “You can’t fit me into a box and write me off, Samara.”

“I’m beginning to see that.” She shook her head, her hair brushing against his shoulder. “My life would be a whole lot easier if I could.”

He couldn’t argue that, so he didn’t bother. Beckett took them up to the executive level. He noted the way she studied everything, obviously filing away every bit of information she could lay her eyes on. “What does Lydia pay you these days?”

She dropped her arm and stepped back. “Oh no. I don’t think so.” She pointed at him. “We went over this last night. I’m not for sale.”

“It’s an innocent question.”

“It is most definitely not an innocent question.” She looked like she wanted to take off her shoe and throw it at his head. “I don’t care what issue you and your aunt have. I’m not part of it. You don’t get to use me as leverage. I’m not a pawn for either of you to sacrifice in this pissing match you have going on.”

Shame tried to take hold, but he wouldn’t let it. Samara knew the game, no matter how much it apparently offended her. “I’m the bad guy for trying to offer you a job, but I’m sure you agreed to show up here solely out of the goodness of your heart.” He pretended to think about it. “Wait, no you didn’t—which you already admitted. You’re here because Lydia wants to do whatever it takes to sink Morningstar. Full stop.” He motioned at the offices behind him. “Wake up, Samara. I’m only playing the game she made the rules for.”

She took in the empty COO office on the other side of the glass wall. “She poached your employees.”

“Convenient timing, don’t you think?”

“You’re not still harping on that paranoid talk about Lydia meeting Nathaniel.” Samara hesitated and then moved to stand in front of him. She pressed her lips together and then very gently said, “Do you think maybe it’s a good idea for you to talk to someone?”

Beckett jerked back. “What?”

There was nothing but sympathy in her dark eyes. “I’m serious, Beckett. I’ve known you a long time, at least by reputation, and this delusion you have going isn’t like you. Is it possible that Nathaniel’s death is hitting you harder than you realize? That you’re fixating on Lydia instead of your own grief because it’s easier to deal with an enemy than face the fact you can never make things right with your father?”

Every word flayed him, cutting to the quick. Beckett gritted his teeth against the need to tell Samara that she was the one who wasn’t thinking clearly. To yell. To expel some of the ugliness that had been brewing in him for a very, very long time. “I didn’t call you here to offer you a job, and I sure as hell don’t need a shrink.”

She stood her ground as he advanced. Her heels put them at the same height and she still managed to look down her nose at him. “Then why did you call me here?”

Because I can’t spend another moment alone without going out of my mind.

He didn’t say it. To admit how long it had been since he’d felt a connection with another person was to hand Samara—Lydia—a loaded gun and invite her to point it directly at him. He didn’t answer her verbally at all. Beckett cupped her waist and slowly pulled her against him, giving her plenty of time to register his intentions.

“Beckett.” Despair colored her tone and she gave a desperate laugh. “What are we doing?”

“I don’t know.” Using a hand on the small of her back, he pressed her firmly against him. “I don’t want to stop.”

Samara hesitated, but finally placed her hands gingerly against his chest. He waited, letting her decide. Yes or no. Push or pull. Stay or go. She hitched a breath. “I don’t want to stop, either.”

Praise for The Last King:

“Top Pick! Beckett and Samara are a fantastic, modern couple. They clash in the boardroom and the bedroom, are total equals, and their bring-it-on spirit makes every interaction lively and exciting — whether clothes are on or off. ... The heart of this romance is the development of trust between Beckett and Samara, and Robert expertly unfolds it, revealing the emotional connection on both sides under the flash and fire of their irresistible chemistry.

Colleen S. Myers was raised in a large catholic family in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she grew up on Harlequin teen romances and stories from her mother’s days as a paramedic. She went on to attend Allegheny College majoring in Biology and English.

After college, Colleen spent a year in service in the Americorp giving back to the community at a local Pittsburgh Women Infants and Children Clinic (WICC) before attending Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine on a military scholarship.

Upon completing medical school, Colleen attended residency at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and was on base in Washington, DC during 9/11. She earned three meritorious service awards from the military. After serving seven years of active duty, she promptly landed a position at the VA to provide fellow veterans with optimum medical care. Still an avid fan of romances into adulthood, her love of the genre inspired her to hone her craft as a writer, focusing on contemporary romance and science fiction. Her background in medicine and the military provides an inspiring layer of creative realism to her stories and characters.

Her first book, Must Remember, the first book in the Solum series, is published by Champagne Press. The sequel, Can’t Forget, coming in June 2016, is the recipient of the 2015 RWA New England Readers Award.

Colleen currently resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband and son, and spends her spare time writing. She is also working on a new contemporary romance.

Book Description:

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd.  A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter.  My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet.

Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

“All done.”  I found Gia in the yard sunbathing.  Of course, she had to be lying on her stomach so I could get a closer look at her ass.  It was fucking phenomenal.  Like a chubby, upside-down heart from where I stood.  I’d spent the last hour pretend fixing her car and picturing her riding me reverse cowgirl, those ass cheeks jiggling like fucking Jell-O while she rode me hard.  I had to force my eyes to her face and clear my throat to continue.  “Here are your keys.  Your rotors were shot, too. In the future, don’t ride on bad brakes.  It just turns a little problem into a big one.” She shielded her eyes from the sun and twisted her neck to look up at me, still not flipping over to her stomach.  “Oh.  Okay. Thanks.   Can I make you some lunch? It’s the least I can do to repay you for hours of working on my car.” Is that ass on the menu? “No.  I have to get going.” She lifted from flat on her stomach to on her knees in a yoga-like pose, taking her sweet ass time before turning over. “Are you sure?”  She bit her bottom lip.  “You’ve had to have worked up an appetite.” Is she fucking with me?  I had an appetite alright.  “I gotta run.” I sounded like a broken record, yet here I still stood.  My head wanted to get the fuck out of that yard, but my traitorous feet wouldn’t move.  Not even when she stood up, turned around and practically rubbed her ass against me as she held up suntan lotion.  “Could you rub some sunscreen on my back before you go?  I don’t want to burn.” No.  “Sure.” “Thanks.” I took the sunscreen and squeezed a glob of creamy white lotion into the palm of my hand.  Swallowing hard, I began to rub it into her back.  Her shoulders were warm and soft with the tiniest little layer of fuzz on it.  It reminded me of a peach.  My mouth salivated at the thought of biting into her. “Could you do a little lower?” My breathing became labored and my cock swelled as I lowered my hands and rubbed into the middle of her back.  I was breaching into dangerous territory. “Lower” she said.  I knew from her breathy voice that I wasn’t the only one aroused. I lowered to just above her bathing suit bottom and rubbed lotion all over. When I finished, she turned her head so I could see the side of her face and closed her eyes to whisper, “lower.” Fuck me.  I couldn’t stop myself.  I reached for the creamy sunscreen and squeezed enough into my hand to cover a large person’s full body and then began to rub it into her ass cheeks.  She had the most unique heart-shaped mole on her left side that was perfectly symmetrical. I ran my fingertips over it. When I trailed a pool of lotion to the top of her ass crack, and slowly rubbed it in tracing the material of her bathing suit in between her cheeks, she let out a low moan. More.  Make more
sounds like that.

Book Description:

“MOVING ON” IS JUST ABOUT ACTING THE PART. I would never say as much to the people I love, but it’s the truth. They want to see me doing better. They want to see me living for more than just my son. So I let them. Every day is about putting on a face, pretending to get over the loss of my husband. And every day is a lie.
UNTIL MOVING ON IS A TEMPTATION THAT CAN’T BE DENIED. I’m not about to claim I’m a genius, unless we’re talking with a tattoo gun or woman in my hands, but I’m smart enough to know the beauty serving up my cupcake fix is off limits. Really, I know. Too bad the lure of putting a real smile on Kate’s face is so strong. When she visits Sailor’s Grave Tattoo Parlor, I can’t help but want to leave my mark.

Lift 4 Autism

Hi All, I know this isn't a book review or a cover reveal, etc but this is something that is near to my heart seeing as I have a child on the spectrum. I hope that you will take a minute to learn some more about LIFE 4 Autism and the wonderful things they are working to accomplish!  Also make sure to join the action and enter the giveaway!

Every April it’s amazing to see the romance reading community rally around families living with Autism. A few years ago, authors Ginger Scott and Kennedy Ryan launched LIFT 4 Autism, the charitable initiative raising funds for ASD families during Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month. With 1 in every 68 children diagnosed, Autism is now the fastest growing and most common disability in the US. Many of the therapies and services those living with Autism require are not covered by insurance. It can be an expensive and difficult diagnosis to navigate. This year’s charitable partner, Kulture City, does incredible things for ASD families.
