My Review:

This is the first book by Haley Jenner that I have read and I am really pleased to now have her in my sights.  Tangled Love was a bit of dark romance and suspense wrapped up into one.  It is an emotional roller coaster of a ride, a book where one minute you are hating a main character and the next you are broken down in tears wishing you could hug them, and pet them, and love them.  It's one of those reads where when you start it you think, okay...this is going to be a decent read, a good way to pass the time and then by the time you are done you are clutching the book to your chest wondering where the time went because you became so wrapped up in the world that Haley created that you didn't put it down until you finished the last page and were left ready for more.  

How far will you go for vengeance, what is it worth to you, what if everything you knew to be true was a lie, what if vengeance no longer matters but it's all you have, it is what has kept you going for 20 years?  Could you shove aside everything, could you let go of the possibility of a new life, a happy life, love for retribution?

I will admit to having some mixed feelings for our hero at first, he is...well, he is a bit of a jerk, (you know what I want to say here, but Amazon won't let me use those kind of words, *side eyes Amazon*) he's up one minute and down the next, he's throwing out mixed signals  like they were dollar bills and he was a a strip club.  But then I began to understand him, I began to see him and listen and well, I kinda have some pretty strong attachment type feelings toward Parker.  I may have even done the unimaginable and fallen a little in love with his brother too, who..wow, if you think Parker is one the dark side, wait until you meet Rocco. 

Codi, she is such a sweet heroine but on top of that she is also fierce.  I loved that she would just walk out on Parker when he was acting like a jerk! *side eye* I love that she made him work to get back into her good graces, that even though her feelings run pretty deep she knows the value of herself and her heart and she isn't going to let Parker downgrade her to one of his normal 'play things'.  It was wonderful seeing such a strong heroine and yet one who is sightly broken and a little soft hearted...honestly she is the every girl, just living in a crazy world.  

Wait, isn't that like a song lyric...that's gonna bug me all day, but anyhoo....you get my drift.  She's amazing and I loved the two of them together even when they were giving me all those angsty feels.  I loved that Codi's kind heart brings out the softness that has always been there in Parker.  When it comes down to it he is very much like a little boy that never got to be.  He just wants love and kindness.  He wants to be shown that it is okay to hurt and when his emotions get too much for him he throws, essentially, an adult sized tantrum.  That doesn't make him a bad person, doesn't make him annoying, (jerk yes, annoying no) honestly it just makes you love him even more because he is so real and so raw and it is so very easy to see why Codi would lose her heart to a man like him even when it could cost her everything.  

Tangled Love is a well paced, thought out story that is going to have you wanting book two in your hands right away.  I honestly can't wait for Rocco's storyline...I love the way it looks like it is going to go and who it will go with.  There's a whole world waiting for us in Chaotic Rein and while I am not sure we'll get more than two books (seeing as there are two brothers) I really hope that Haley is able to weave in some extra characters and keep us sitting on the edge of our seats for a few books more.  

There was only one thing that threw me off and sadly I can't really talk about it because hello spoiler...but there is one storyline that didn't get wrapped up the way I would have liked to see it happen.  Now that may be because we will see this person again and it will wrap up in another installment but I want the vindication that comes along with this persons storyline ending... I think everyone deserves that.  This is a great series to pick up if you are looking for something with steaming romance, some suspense, and little bit of a dark feel to it.

Masters and Mercenaries Crossover Collection - Review and Excerpt

 

Discover the Lexi Blake Crossover Collection 

My Review:

 I know, I know...what the H. E. Double Hockey Sticks is my review doing up here you ask.  Well, I debated over and over how to do this, how does a book reviewer properly review a crossover collection?  Do I review each individual book leading to the longest blog review ever and sending you into a book review coma or do I write one review that encompasses all of the series?  As you can guess I decided to go with the one review and believe that you will trust me when I tell you how I feel about the crossover as a whole instead of in it's pieces, so here goes:

Second thing you should know, I was really worried about this crossover.  Not because I didn't have faith the authors could pull it off but more because I am always leary of crossover worlds. I have found in the past that not everything translates when you take two worlds and bring them together.  I was really worried about how it would work bringing the Masters and Mercenaries crew together with the Demonica Underworld crew, but I am happy to say that Her Guardian Angel, by Larissa Ione actually turned out to be one of my favorites of the whole bunch.  I think that says quite a bit about how well the authors merged there worlds together because Demonica and Masters and Mercenaries individually are two of my favorite series and this cross over did them both justice.

One of the challenges with almost all of the books, minus Lexi Blake's as it is a full novel , is that they almost needed to be full length.  Obviously some of the authors pull off novella's better than others.  I think that Larissa Ione does them well but maybe that's just a case of having done enough of them over time you know how to pace the story.  J. Kenners felt a bit abrupt to me, it was a book that really could have used more time to sort the story, but don't let that make you shy away from it, Justify Me is still a good read...it just has a lot going on and I think is one of the ones that you would have most wanted to have been caught up one both series.  In general I don't feel like you have to have read the books of each author (except of course for the Masters and Mercenaries books) but of course it wouldn't hurt.  Sometimes, there are so many people in play in a long series like M&M it is hard to keep up with who is who and then when you throw an entirely different authors world into the mix it can make you scratch your head a time or two.

I felt like the angst level in all of the books was pretty high, and if you know me I am not a fan of angst, it makes my anxiety go wild when I am worrying about book characters as well as my own life, haha.  I think it is higher in these books though again because they are crossovers and you have to somehow meld these two worlds and then also because they are novellas so you have to not only meld two worlds and bring a couple together, but you have to do it quickly.

I pretty much loved all the characters, Especially Remy, he's not the manwhore you think he is, yea!  The authors did a good job matching the couples.  I have to wonder did Lexi select who got which M&M character, did the author of each book pick, or was it luck of the draw?  Anyway you look at it they all did a wonderful job giving these characters a story that they deserved (though I wish some were full length stories so I could have gotten to know them a bit better) and the love that they needed.

In the end, this is a great collection, over-all each book rates at least a 4 star read for me.  If you love Masters and Mercenaries this is a great way for Lexi to have wrapped up the story lines for the crew and to get us ready to lead into the spinoff with the 'Lost Boys"!  I for one CAN NOT WAIT, squuuueeee!  Each book will be a wonderful addition to the authors series as well as to M&M and i hope that you will pick them up!

The fury in her blazing eyes dares me to disagree. They challenge me to argue against the fact that I’m the biggest fucking asshole to ever walk this planet. The men I so fiercely despise; my father, Marcus, Dominic; their indiscretions, their flaws, the evil that lives inside them, is nothing, fucking nothing compared to the rotting soul I seem to host within my body.

My Review:

As seems to happen with me more often than not lately (way to pay attention, lol) this ended up being a second in a series and I didn't realize it.  Of course the good thing to know is that it wasn't until I was well into the book, about 15% that I realized that fact so I can say without a doubt that this can be read as a standalone.  The only thing that even made me realize is that one of the brothers has a serious relationship going on and I thought no way would the author do that in the first in a series about three brothers.  Anyway, jump right in here if you want to, Christi Barth does a fantastic job of setting up the story with out giving away anything that would make you feel like you were missing something, but you'll totally be going back and reading book one because, why wouldn't you?

I really enjoyed this story about Flynn and Sierra, the back story they each have and then watching them fall in love and support the other.  Individually they are so interesting to get to know but together they are an amazing story.  How do you fall in love when you can't share your secrets, when you can't share your past, your fears, your hopes.  How do you fall in love when you have to become someone entirely different?

Never Been Good is such a cute sweet story.  I loved how sweet Flynn is, how much of an Alpha he is but how kind and caring is.  I loved Sienna's strength, her desire to take care of herself, to be strong even though she has felt weak for so long.  There is some angst that I am never a huge fan of but as expected things work themselves out and our couple finds their joy, though I will say there is room  for questions left at the end that means we should have a check in with them come book 3.

If you are looking for a summer read that will give you the romance you want, the suspense you need, the sweetness and angst to keep you turning pages and craving more definitely pick up this series and this book in particular.  I am really excited to go back and read book one but more to get to Kellan's story, the one is going to, as my 9 year old would say, be EPIC!
