Invaded - Release Week Blitz and Review

I am so thrilled to help Melissa Landers with her release week launch party for INVADED! See a note from Melissa below and make sure to enter the giveaway!

"Hey, fiction lovers. I’m Melissa Landers, author of the Alienated series (YA sci-fi from Disney-Hyperion), and today I’m bouncing with excitement because THE SEQUEL IS FINALLY HERE!

It’s been a year since we left Aelyx and Cara onboard the intergalactic transport, and INVADED begins with an emotional goodbye as they part ways—Aelyx returning to Earth to salvage the alliance, and Cara continuing to L’eihr to serve out her part of the student exchange. While they’re apart, our star-crossed lovers will face assassination attempts, betrayal, crippling self-doubt, and a sadistic alien Phys Ed class. (Because there’s no escaping PE, even in another galaxy.) When Aelyx and Cara finally reunite…well, let’s just say it’s combustive. ;-)"

Book Description:

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

My Review:

If we thought life was hard for our resident sexy alien Aelyx, it has nothing on what our dear human girl Cara ends up going through when she is left on L'eihr as an exchange student.  The L'ehir don't want her there any more than humans wanted aliens on earth.

I have to say that my one complaint about the book is that I just simply missed the dynamic between Aelyx and Cara.  Yes, we get scenes with them as they 'skype' and there is always that one part toward the end of the book that I totally can't talk about, but it's good so you want to find out, trust me, but so much of the story has them separated that I felt like a piece was missing. Now that being said, I loved how Melissa handled their long distance relationship.  There may have been moments of jealousy and moments where you ponder if there will be a future for these two and even when things are looking really grim you never want to just throw in the towel on this couple and say forget it, you are rooting for them the entire time.  There is nothing easy about their relationship, Cara is struggling to fit in, striving to figure out what is really going on, being framed, and all in all just plain homesick.  All the while our sweet Aelyx is trying to save an alliance and not get murdered.  Things just plain got real for these two and while it hurt to watch them struggle through it all basically alone, I loved how this book played out.

It was so wonderful to get the full world building of L'ehir through Cara's eyes as opposed to Aelyx's perception. The images Melissa creates are both beautiful and stark, but the fact is you can clearly visualize what L'ehir looks like, you can see how they treat one another, how they live and it is pretty fantastic.

Cara is amazing, she's always had spirit and drive, but seeing her push through the harshness that is L'ehir life is inspiring.  She is one tough lady and I love that about her and her relationship with her brother both broke my heart and made it soar.  I need more Troy, I hope there is a whole entire book series waiting in the wings for him, he so deserves it.  And Aelyx, that boy.  He is just the sweetest thing in two worlds. He makes me want to shake him at times with some of his decisions but he always ALWAYS makes up for them with his gentle soul.  He does not let us down in this book.  I have so enjoyed watching him find his 'humanity' and his honest and open feelings for Cara and his desire to learn how to make her happy are so refreshing in a Young Adult book.  He's a light that truly shines through all the bad boy boyfriends out there.  Now I like an emo bad boy as well as the next reader, but what a relief to see a boy, a relationship, that isn't fraught with drama and the desire to shake the girl for putting up with it and the boy for acting like a jerk.

So, Melissa Landers only signed for a two book series with Disney-Hyperion, I know What the HECK right?  I will say this, the book ends not on a cliff-hanger but with enough left to be discovered that more books could be possible so here is the important thing you must do.  BUY the book(s), ADD it to your Goodreads and WRITE reviews because I want more of this couple and I definitely want more Troy, so I am begging you to help me make this happen, PLEASE!

This is a FANTASTIC read for any Young Adult Science Fiction lovers, grab it up!
