Book Description:

Dear Bridget, I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face. So, here goes. We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England. But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways. I want you. The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke. So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime. No questions asked. Think about it. Or don’t. Whatever you choose. It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway. --Simon

THE WILL

SOARING

About Kristen Ashley: Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing's changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Book Description:

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora's been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.
To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.
Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage. She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

My Review:

  EXCERPT:

“This life is not glamorous,” Duke told her. “We travel constantly. We sleep on the ground most nights. When we’re not in danger from storms, we’re in danger in cities where we are considered criminals. This life is not for the faint of heart.” “There are things I do not know, things I will have to learn. But I am capable. I am familiar with sacrifice. I know what it is to make hard choices.” “Tell me you’re not considering this,” Locke said to Duke. The old man was silent for a long moment, both Locke and Roar looking to him for support. Duke rubbed at his mustache, a habit of his when he was thinking deeply. “Let’s think about this, Locke. She’s smart. And determined.” “She’s a child.” Roar’s shoulders hunched in Locke’s peripheral vision, and he swallowed back the guilt. He could apologize later. For now, it was imperative that he won this argument. “You were a child when I brought you into the fold,” Duke said. “She’s a young woman with a good head on her shoulders. And if this is what she wants, I’m inclined to at least hear her out.” Just like that, Roar’s shoulders straightened, and Locke turned to watch a devastating smile bloom across her mouth. His weakness when it came to her only made him more cross. “What skills do you have?” he snapped at Roar. “Skills?” “Yes, skills. What can you do? Or do you just plan to tag along for the ride?” A flush spread over her cheeks, and her voice was tentative when she answered, “I’m good on a horse. Very good.” Where in the world would she have learned to ride? He quickly hardened his expression. “Horses are fine for travel, but they don’t do well in storms. They, unlike you, have good survival instincts.” As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Locke could have sworn he felt an updraft—the first sign that bad weather could occur—and he knew that this time he had pushed too far. Roar marched toward him, spearing a finger into his chest and said, “I can read and write. I can speak Taraanese, Finlaghi, and Odilarian. I can read maps. I know enough about grassland vegetation and wildlife to survive without a market to buy food and drink. I’m good with knives and a bow. I learn quickly, and I’m not afraid of hard work. And I’ve spent my entire life reading as much about storms as I could get my hands on.” For a moment, her voice cracked under the weight of her anger, but she took a huffing breath and continued: “I’m good with numbers. It’s been a while, but I think I can probably still draw the constellations from memory, which should make me decent at navigation. I can—“ “Enough.” Locke’s voice came out in a deep rasp. He captured her long, delicate finger in his fist before she could continue poking him. He felt short of breath at the sight of her—livid and lovely. “Enough.” The old Locke might have kept arguing, and Roar would have met him toe-to-toe. But if becoming a storm hunter had taught him anything, it was that fighting head-on wasn’t always the way to win. Sometimes strategy was required. He met Duke’s eyes over her shoulder, and if he had thought Roar looked smug before, she had nothing on his mentor. The man raised his eyebrows in a challenge and asked, “You?” He hated the idea of bringing someone into this dangerous life, but if it was going to happen regardless, he sure as hell wouldn’t hand her safety over to anyone else, not even Ransom. And at the very least, it would give him the opportunity to change her mind. He gritted his teeth and nodded his acceptance.

Book Description:

All-American wide receiver Kyler Tate’s life is about to change. A fairytale college career skyrocketed him to the NFL draft. Adoration and opportunity are thrown in his direction wherever he goes, thanks to being chosen in the first round by the Los Angeles Rage.

None of the accolades mean anything, though, without his high school sweetheart, Bree Justice, by his side. Four years ago, she walked away from Kyler, choosing a quiet life over the flash and notoriety his career would someday bring.

Now he’s back in their Indiana hometown, refusing to leave for Los Angeles without her. Demanding she give their life together a shot. Her heart never stopped bleeding for the love of her life, but Bree’s decision was final. Too bad their wild attraction has only been amplified by their separation, and Kyler won’t quit until Bree is wearing his ring.

My Review:

EXCERPT:

Draft Day was nothing like Kyler had pictured. “With the ninth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rage select...” Kyler Tate’s parents sucked in breaths on either side of him. “Kyler Tate, receiver, University of Cincinnati.” The tense atmosphere inside the event hall exploded with wild cheers, exclamations, and boos. His shoulders were slapped by thousands of hands, kisses landing on his cheeks. Like falling out of a kayak into a rushing current, bashing into rocks on the way toward a waterfall, Kyler stood, put his head down, and proceeded toward the stage. Cell phones rang at every table he passed, terse conversations taking place as the deadline timer for the next announcement started. Players he’d faced on the gridiron sweated in their suits, mothers fussed, water glasses were refilled. This was it. Years of training, icing down injuries, two-a-day practices, glory, pain, and mental fatigue. All for this moment. And it was...utterly fucking incomplete. Before he could reach the stage, panic set in. Set in real good, like claws digging into fertile ground. A moment earlier, everyone in the room had looked familiar, but they were strangers now, spinning in a kaleidoscope. Sweat popped up on his forehead. His shoulder blades tightened, a harsh sound puffed from between his lips. From behind the podium, the announcer gave him a strange look, the Rage jersey lowering in his grip. Are you okay? The man’s mouthed words barely penetrated over the sudden rushing stream of images. Of her. Bree Justice.

Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

New York Times bestselling author Livia Blackburne wrote her first novel while she was a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she conducted research on the neuroscience of reading acquisition in children. Upon graduation, she switched to writing full time, which also involves getting into people’s heads but without the help of a three tesla MRI scanner.

10 Things About Me:
I write fantasy. Most often YA fantasy, but sometimes I branch out.

I was born in Taiwan, raised in Albuqurque, and spent my twenties in Boston, where I earned an A.B. in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard and PhD in cognitive neuroscience from MIT.

I started my debut novel Midnight Thief in high school, because writing a novel was the only way I could get out of the mandatory camping requirement. I finished about 60 pages. They were 60 awful, awful pages.

I finished Midnight Thief 12 years later, because writing a novel was the only way I could keep my sanity while conducting my doctoral research. This time, I got to 370 pages, and they were much less awful than the initial 60.

I write a blog about psychology and neuroscience for writers. You can check it out here.
Like every good Asian kid, I played the piano as a child. I don’t do that as much anymore, but I still love to sing and dance.

I’m horrible at any sports that involve fast moving projectiles, and I dislike most sports that involve highly repetitive movements (running, swimming, biking, etc.). This leaves basically dancing and martial arts.

When I wanted sweets as a child, my mother would give me one M&M. I thought that was normal, and to this day, have very low tolerance for sweets. One bite of chocolate bar, half a scoop of ice cream is about all I can take.

If I had to choose one author with the biggest influence on my reading and writing development, it would be Tamora Pierce.

Some of my favorite books: The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner, Plain Kate by Erin Bow, Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

Book Description:

The Montgomery Ink Series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues with the brother who keeps his secret and the one woman he shouldn’t want.

Everly Law married the love of her life and on the eve of giving birth to their twins, lost him in a tragic accident. Now she’s a single mother working overtime at her bookstore trying to make sure her boys have the life they deserve. Her life is busy enough without her adding dating a Montgomery. As past secrets come to light, she’ll need Storm more than ever—even if she doesn’t realize it.
Storm Montgomery has spent his life atoning for sins that only few know he’s committed. When he lost his best friend, he promised his widow that he’d always be there for her—even when she wanted nothing to do with him. But when a single touch ignites passions they’ve both buried deep inside, he’ll have to remember exactly who is in his arms and that taking chances might be far more dangerous than they bargained for.

My Review:

It's Storm, finally!  I feel like we've been waiting ages to get to the twins.  While I wasn't expecting a happy go lucky book, certainly not form Storm's perspective (he's always so broody) but not from a Carrie Ann Ryan book either, I have to say this one was a pretty emotional ride.  Now before I scare any Carrie Ann Ryan new readers away, yes her books have a tendency to be deep and possibly a little on the dark side, but we always get our HEA, it may just take a few tears and a lot of tissues to get there.

I really enjoyed the characters of Storm and Everly.  I loved how Storm, after such a tragic moment in Everly's life stayed right by her side, helping when he could and when she would allow it.  I loved Everly's strength and perseverance.  I can't not fathom going through what she does in this book and that she continues on with such grace and even when she is feeling her weakest her strength.  It is not a stretch in the least to see how this friends to lovers romance evolves, these two characters are clearly meant to be together and honestly likely should have been together day one and not how it happened but then we wouldn't have a story and a pretty interesting one at that.

I struggled a little with Storms past and his taking all that on, but the Montgomery's are a empathetic, caring, giving family so it is not a stretch, though I really don't know how he kept it a secret from ALL of them for so long.  I loved seeing the twins challenge each other, and seeing them come back together when Storm had been pulling away.  There is always a strong tie into family bonds in the Montgomery Ink books, you can't have one with out having them all and I can't imagine it any other way.

I was completely shocked and pretty darn saddened by the twist in the story.  As if life isn't hard enough Carrie had to throw that WTF wrench into the plan, lol.  I wanted the death of Everly's husband Jackson to have been some big cover up just so I could watch Storm kick his tush!  It's amazing and honest (sad as that may be) how much people really don't know...people.  There is a side to everyone that is hidden, some hide it better, and some have some pretty nasty sides. And to see a side you never knew existed come out and in the fashion that it does...well I am not sure how that is ever reconciled.   I wish Everly or Storm would have had the opportunity to come down a little harder on Jackson's parents.  That man's mother is ridiculous and she needs her tush kicked as much as Jackson did.  I felt like the end came upon us rather quickly and all the loose ends I needed tied up, all the explanations didn't happen.  Ultimately it didn't take away from the story but it would have been nice to have Storm and Everly going into their new life with a clear path, especially after all that came there way this book, and I am not sure they totally got that.

In the end this is another great read from Carrie Ann Ryan, it wasn't my favorite Montgomery Ink but not my favorite from that series is still a pretty darn good read.  I am more anxious than ever to get my hands on Wes's story after the little bits and pieces we get of him and Jillian in this book.  Pretty sure that release date is 31 October of this year so we don't have too much longer to wait, but then again I am not sure I am ready for that either, Wes if I am counting right is the end of the Montgomery Ink children....nooooo!

~ HAPPY READING ~

My Review:

Okay, let me just wipe these happy tears of joy away so that I can give you a proper review...hang on, man they just keep coming and my heart is so light...just a minute.

Seriously Tessa Bailey is one of my favorite authors for so many reasons; she's just plain an awesome human being, she's the Queen of Dirty Talk, she knows how to weave an emotional journey, when one of her books is in my hands she is the keeper of my heart.  She never fails to give me everything I need in a romance, EVERYTHING.  These are amazing characters with tight knit friends and family. There are honest, believable challenges and resolutions that make sense.  There are moments of pain but so many wonderful moments of joy to balance them out.  There are sexy, sweet, alpha, hardworking men and beautiful, fierce, alpha, (yes, she can write an alpha woman, it isn't just a male thing) hard working women.

I never walk away from one of Tessa's books thinking 'oh that was just a great read'.  No, I walk away thinking she may have changed my heart forever.  Her books are of course always great reads, but they are more than just books.  These characters are more than just another book boyfriend or girlfriend, her characters become your family and they stay with you well past when you have forgotten about most other characters and moved on.  There is no moving on from a Tessa Bailey character, they take up residence in your heart and mind and pitch a freaking tent, with the comfiest air mattresses and fluffiest sleeping bags, and they don't forget their pillow, because they intend to stay a good long while.

Too Close to Call is a wonderful addition to the Romancing the Clarkson's series, it was one that came as a surprise for me. I didn't know until not long after Too Hard to Forget, that Kyler would be getting his own story. Now, I don't know if that's simply beause I was so wrapped up in Coach and so anxious to get my hands on Belmont's story that I hadn't been paying attention or if it is because Tessa didn't even know Kyler would be 'knocking' on her brain, but regardless I am SOOOO happy that this book came into existence.

We meet Kyler Tate in Too Hard to Forget,  (click link for my review) Elliot and Peggy's story  and it is near impossible to not fall in love with him and if some how you managed not to you absolutely will in this book.  Kyler is the best kind of 'book boyfriend', the kind that you wouldn't mine just being friends with in real life because he is so amazing to "his girl".  He's the kind that ruins you for all other book boyfriends because he is the whole package of sweet, driven, protective, loving, funny, alpha, etc.  Tessa took all our favorite characteristics and turned them into Kyler Tate and trust me when I say it is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Bree, is an amazing Heroine.  I totally can see why she chose the path she did, I felt for her and my heart ached for her.  I adored how much she loved her sister and father, how much she was willing and did give up for them, but I also love that she didn't quit he dreams all together when one dream ended.  I loved her drive and her spirit.  She is the introvert in all of us who has that little bit of extrovert just needing a push to be let out.  She is the kind of woman you just want to sit around with and have a several drinks and she'll have you laughing and smiling so much that not only will your head hurt lightly tomorrow but so will your face. She is the kind of woman that you know will leave a memory in your heart every time you are with her.  It is so easy to see how she would have taken up all of Kyler's heart and there could never be anyone else.

As always with a 1,001 Dark Nights (click link to visit their website) novella, you do not have had to read the entire series before picking up this book.  There is a tie in to Coach and Peggy's book but it is just that, a tie in.  You won't be lost and you won't have ruined anything by reading out of order.  I do however suggest just going ahead and buying all the Romancing the Clarksons books because you need them in your life plain and simple.

Too Close to Call is a beautiful love story, it is short (novella length) but perfect.  Nothing feels left out or left undone.  There is simply so much perfection in the way that Tessa wrote this book I am afraid if I continue on much longer I will start waxing poetic.  This is the book that will bring you out of any romance reading slump you might be in.  This is the book to lift your spirits if you are feeling down. This is the book that is going to have us smiling as we go into what I know will be a extremely emotional read in Belmont and Sage's story.  This is a book that you are going to put on your shelf and when people say to you, 'what is one romance book that you would recommend to any new reader' you point to it's cover and say this one, this one right here!

~HAPPY READING ~

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

NazareaAndrewsNazarea Andrews (N to almost everyone) is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. Which means she writes everything from zombies and dystopia to contemporary love stories. When not writing, she can most often be found driving her kids to practice and burning dinner while she reads, or binge watching TV shows on Netflix. N loves chocolate, wine, and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. N is a self-professed geek and enjoys spending her spare time lost in her favorite fandoms and can often be found babbling about them on social media. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series. Stop by her twitter (@NazareaAndrews) and tell her what fantastic book she should read next.
