Book Description:

PROMETHEUS – One of the keenest Titans to ever walk the earth. Until, that is, his weakness for the human race resulted in his imprisonment.

For thousands of years, Prometheus’s only certainty was his daily torture at Zeus’s hand. Now, unchained by the Eternal Guardians, he spends his days in solitude, trying to forget the past. He’s vowed no allegiance in the war between mortal and immortal, but when a beautiful maiden seeks him out and begs for his help, he’s once again powerless to say no. Soon, Prometheus is drawn into the very conflict he swore to avoid, and, to save the maiden’s life, he must choose sides. But she has a secret of her own, and if Prometheus doesn’t discover what she’s hiding in time, the world won’t simply find itself embroiled in a battle between good and evil, it will fall in total domination to Prometheus’s greatest enemy.

My Review:

First things first.  I love the Eternal Guardians series by Elisabeth Naughton and I love that she gave us a novella through 1,001 Dark Nights.  You guys have heard me say it before but these novellas are a fantastic addition to your favorite series or the perfect chance to discover a new favorite.

Prometheus has been separating himself from those who love him, hidden away in his castle over looking Argolea, watching with his god infused eyesight as his daughter and her family grow and find joy.  Atoning for his misdeeds, he has spent the past 25 years in self inflicted virtual solitude, trying to find the strength to be the 'man' that others see in him, but now he has begun to wonder if the years of solitude have caught up to him.  A voice beckons him, a spectral taunts him.  Has his mind finally given away?

She may be the most powerful witch to grace the earth and heavens, but being powerful means nothing if you are someone's captive, especially if that someone is the god Zeus.  Seeing a chance to gain her freedom this powerful witch uses her abilities to seek out help through the dreams of the one god who could possibly free her.  As her attachment to the mysterious and lonely Prometheus grows she steps out of his dreams and into his world, but with that she only tightens their bond and brings destruction to his doorstep.

I loved this story because the two main characters (as with many of the men and women in these tales) deserved their happily ever after.  Prometheus' torment, brought on him by Zeus and then also by himself and our beguiling red-headed captive who went into things for the wrong reason but then discovered all the reasons to make it right had suffered enough.  I loved that this was a tale of loneliness, redemption, love, and acceptance.  Not just the love or redemption of a partner but the love and redemption needed and deserved from family as well.  Especially learning to accept that we all make mistakes (in the case of Greek gods and other immortal beings those mistakes are rather enormous but still mistakes) and the two can learn to accept ourselves after those mistakes and we can let others love us despite them.

As usual with a novella there isn't much I can say because the story happens so quickly talking too much about it will give away all the good details you want saved for reading, but I can leave you with the fact that this is a great addition to the Eternal Guardians series.  You will love the relationship between Prometheus and his love.  The beautiful and moving relationship between him and his daughter and the relationship he is building with all of the Argonauts and their significant others.  You will love that this is a story about forgiveness, particularly in learning to forgive yourself.  You will LOVE the swoon-worthy parts, the tender parts, the action parts and you will especially love the build up to what I am hoping will be Max's story next!  What you won't love is the fear that this series is beginning to wind it's self to a close.  I don't know when it will happen but I can already tell you I am not ready to leave this world and these amazing characters....take your time Ms. Naughton, don't feel rushed to say goodbye, we aren't.  *wink*

This is as I said a great addition to the series.  I will stay that while it can be read as a standalone you will have a great understanding of Prometheus and our red-headed witch if you have read the entire series first.  You will be glad you did though, because it is a series that is well worth reading.  So grab this one up and add it to your TBR.  Your summer reading plans are set!

~HAPPY READING ~

“Who are you? And how did you get here?”

This was where she needed to be careful. Circe slowly pushed to her feet and brushed the thick curls over her shoulder. If he suspected too much, all her efforts would be for naught. She had to play this cool, had to stick to the plan, had to wait for just the right moment to strike.

“My name is Keia.” Not entirely a lie, she figured. For thousands of years, humans had called her a goddess pharmakeia, which was just a fancy nickname for witch or sorceress. She was simply borrowing from that label. “But I am not here. I am only an apparition.”

“I don’t believe you.” Prometheus stalked forward. He reached out to grab her but his wide palm and long fingers passed through nothing but air.

His hazel eyes widened as he looked from his hand back to her. “What the hell?”

He was only a few inches taller than her nearly seven feet, but he was bigger everywhere. A wall of solid steel that stood between her and eternity. Power radiated from his broad shoulders and chiseled muscles. A power that made her heart beat faster and her blood warm in a way it hadn’t done in ages.

His dark hair was cut short, his jaw strong and square and covered by three days worth of stubble that made him look both dangerous and sexy. He was thousands of years old—like her—but he didn’t look a day over thirty. And when his eyes narrowed and his luscious lips thinned, she had an overwhelming urge to dive into his mouth to find out if he tasted as good as he looked.

“How did you find me?” he said. “What do you want with me?”

Circe blinked, his voice pulling her back to the moment. She’d not been sexually attracted to anyone in so long, she’d forgotten what that rush of excitement felt like. Then again, she’d not had the chance to be attracted to anyone. Zeus kept her locked up tight and had for way too long.

Focus. Sexy as hell you can use to your advantage.

She lifted a foot-long length of heavy chain. “Look familiar?”

His face paled as he looked at the chain Zeus had used to bind him to that rock. The rock where he’d been tortured daily by a giant eagle that had torn into his side and consumed his liver day after day. “Where did you get that?”

“Find me and I’ll tell you.”

Elisabeth Naughton - headshotABOUT ELISABETH NAUGHTON: Elisabeth Naughton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Elisabeth: “I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time.Visit Elisabeth Naughton’s website.
