Book Description:
A brand new dirty, sexy, funny standalone romance...
Lucy Burchett is the heiress to a notoriously disastrous family, and she's left home for good. But when she runs a big, black pickup off the road, totaling it, she finds herself stuck in the middle of nowhere with the driver. He's got a body to die for and a hair-trigger temper. Vince Russo looks like a felon, but he's also pretty funny. He’s on the lam from the cops… and a psychopathic, Russian mob boss who wants to put his balls on a barbeque. Literally.
After a night of ill-advised cocktails and bathroom-wrecking sex, Vince just can't get Lucy off his mind. But he's got plans to rob her. And Lucy’s life is about to get a little bit criminal too.
But can a bad boy and a good girl really escape from their troubles together? Can they trust each other at all?
In the steady march of disasters that follow them west, they fight and they laugh. They tease and they’re tender. They’re either oil and water, or chocolate and peanut butter.
Except, they can’t run from the real world forever. And there’s a hell of a surprise in store for both of them…
My Review:
Confessed was my first Nicola Rendell novel and I can say with out a doubt I will be going back and looking into her other books, especially Professed which while is also a standalone has the link of meeting Lucy for the first time in it.
Two people, both on the run from past mistakes, either their own or someone else's, two people lost in a world that is trying to suck them down and keep them chained to a life the hate will find their way when they literally crash together and become an us, when they begin to see that black and white is shrouded in gray and trusting some one, putting your faith in other persons hands can save you.
Lucy's upper class world is falling down around her, her family name is despised, he future uncertain, her parents oblivious. She's never been the girl that thrived in the societal limelight, she's never cared for the wealth and prestige (except in that it brought her Peanut, her beloved horse and her passion for horses in general) and now with that world crumbling she takes her chances and rushes head long into her future by running away from her past. Vince's world of crime, his stints in jail, his uncertain future...he wants out. He's done and with the Russian mob on his tail he sets off trying to escape a life that has lead him to nothing but pain. He has dreams, big dreams but they're just dreams and since no one else believes in him he's learned not to believe in himself but he knows he can't keep living the life he's in so his only hope is to run from it. Lucy and Vince are headed on a collision course (literally) that will change their world forever and bring them a happiness they have never known. The road will not be smooth, but if they can just stick together and trust in each other the ending might be worth it all.
Confessed is one of those books you should never start at bedtime because guaranteed you will find your self still flipping pages at 2:30 in the morning. It is so full of little twist and turns, the relationship between Vince and Lucy is HOLY HOTNESS, hot, and the sweetness of the book will have you sighing with a quiet smile on your face. This is one of those books you carve out a chunk of time for and get your self situated with you favorite drink, a quiet house, (I need to learn how to make that happen) and your most comfortable chair. You will tear through the pages and be completely satisfied when you reach the end. It's book that will bring you out of any book slump you've found yourself in and have you wanting more from Nicola right away when you are done.
I loved the feel of these two character. Lucy with her good girl upper crust look on the outside, but down to earth and ready to sin (with the right person) soul on the inside. She's gorgeous, spunky, spirited, loving and a terrible, TERRIBLE driver. She's going to make you smile and laugh as well as take you by surprise through out the book. Vince, goodness....what can I say about this guy. 1. He's a bad guy, there are no if, ands, or buts, about it. He's done bad things, he'll do them again, but he doesn't hide it and he's very good at being bad. That's not all he is though, he's also a beautiful soul stuffed into a bad boys body, and he's got a side to him that he gives to Lucy that will just make you melt and on many occasion titter and gasp.
I will tell you this....This book is Sexy, there are some scenes in here that well just know they get crazy hot and may at times be too much for some. This isn't a light romance but it's not a dark romance either, it's that shade of gray I was talking about earlier. There is no black and white with this book, it's hard core but sweet, it's moments of great passion and anger than moments of calm discussion and heartfelt words and pain. The most important part though is that it has depth and development. The characters grow along with us, the story is honest, raw, and believable. You can visualize it all playing out in your head as if it were a movie on the big screen and you will be rooting for this couple from the get go.
This is a great read for any fan of more erotic romances or dark romances. Many contemporary romances fans will also fall in love with this book, but keep in mind that I have given this an 18 and up guideline for a reason. Some of the scenes walk the line of comfortable for some readers. That said there are no trigger warnings that I would put in this book, it isn't that kind of line they are walking and every moment is consensual! Confessed will leave you fanning your face in all the best ways so....*grins*
